Lindy Chamberlain is the woman who lost her child. The Case was controversial for many reasons. This always seems like such an Australian in joke because it is parodying Meryl Streep's attempt at an Australian accent. Much laughing ensued.

The line "maybe the dingo ate your baby" was tipping the hat to the movie, "A cry in the dark" where a dingo steals a baby, kills and eats it.

Good movie (grade: 'B') with Meryl Streep.

The movie in itself may not have been all that popular, i'm not sure. But the real case that inspired it was extremely popular in 1980, when it happened. I'm quite sure that this is not a random remark.

Based on a real event in Australia in 1981. Streep played Lindy Chamberlain in a movie Australians knew as 'Evil Angels' ('Cry In the Dark in US). Funnily enough, Elaine's Aussie accent is much better than Streep's. :-)

Well I have The Stranded on a DVD from Season 2, episode 9, Between 'The Apartment' and 'The Stranded'. According to Wikipedia, "The episode was originally produced for Season 2 but was postponed because of the beginning of the 1991 Gulf War."
