Breathtaking, I worked on a similar project also for a 48hr Film Festival in Portsmouth whereby we created a post apocalyptic steam-punk setting in post.
uh drinking juice from another clone(human).this film unfortunately reflects where this world is heading.less science fiction and more of this reality.great efforts though.beautifully shot.loved the night scenes.those seemed to have very little light?loved the acting, pace of the movie, the idea behind it.the musical score was hauntingly top notch.kudos guys!
I enjoyed it, I thought it looked gorgeous. THe narrative was simple but well conveyed with enough subtlety to keep things interesting without being obvious.
My complaint is a general one, so many sci-fi short films are about clones, or robots, aliens deciding whether to destroy us and wars amongst all of the previous. With obvious talent, and original concept should be high on the list of priorities.
Couldn't have been that cheap if you got the rights to the music. Or didn't you?!! Lol. Other than that I thought it was good. Had the same ambience as Solaris with the music.
Ha. I loved this. This was featured on the Quiet Earth site. That sites shows all lot of sci-fi and horror things. I really like how this was only shot in two days. Looks like it was shot in many.
This film reminds me of 28 Days Later, with the grungy atmosphere, the constant camera jumps and movement; it really pulls you in until you can't look away.
Having watched countless dozens of Sci-Fi shorts over the past 30 years, I personally consider this short to easily be one of the most atmospheric and beautifully executed examples of the genre I've ever seen.
It carefully captures a believable sense of mise-en-scène; both stylistically and in the clever use of locations. This works so well thanks to the piece being shot & edited in such a highly effective manner. The digital cinematography is quite simply SUPERB!
Hi johnlebrocq - thank you for your response. I absolutely agree with your comments. And also would like to clarify the use of "easy".... The film looks amazingly mesmerizing and is so cinematographic that one may be fooled in thinking this is easy. Of course this is not easy and requires a lot of creativity - which is difficult enough - but it doesn't require a lot of time, many sfx, gfx and cgi, and, most and foremost, it didn't require a huge budget. Hence....
Absolutely - it many respects the film's stripped to the core, the essentials. It becomes an expression of its true worth or value, which is 'simply' talent honed by craft and experience. ;-)
I wouldn't mention the low cost too loudly, but since you have, quick, cheap and still a cut above - put me at the front of the queue because I've got this script...
Hello John - well the reason I mentioned the low cost is to encourage in this particular instance Dutch film makers to enter the Shocking Shorts Award and to tell them do not shy away from a scifi or crime film because it needs rockets, aliens, explosions, A-list celebs and cgi. This is the perfect - and winning - example of how to. John Landis agreed ;o) Regarding the script, did you write it?
The following SHORT film is an example of how one can shoot a sci-fi short film with minimal resources and in a very short time.
Entries have only 48 hours to shoot and edit. Requirements were a prop, one specific line of dialuogue and the title. The prop is a clear bottle with red or green liquid, the dialogue was: "I am required to carry out this task until completion: your orders do not override anything."
It shows how "easy" it is to make a sci-fi short movie with minimal resources.

Great video! Check out my short film "NUMERICA" if you have some time. Inspired by Kurt Vonnegut's public domain short story "2 B R 0 2 B".
In response to growing fears of overpopulation, a new law has been passed. For every person born an adult must volunteer to die. NUMERICA.

Hit the HQ [High Quality] Button you stroke.
Couldn't you just have said "The quality was subpar" or "Looked very pixelated" ?
Instead you just jump all over these guys [who happen to win the 2008 Challenge] for their quality of Cinematography? Christ sake man.
I'm not faulting you for being uneducated about the correct steps to watch YouTube Videos in their proper format...you are just a dick.
But go check out some of my work - I'm sure you will love it.

Why does every amateur filmmaker include the bars and tone on their uploaded web-video? = Annoying way to start

Wow, you did this in 48 hours. I'm amazed. Very good quality. What did you shoot this with? i.e. what camera?

Thanks! It was shot on a Sony Z1 with a 'letus extreme' 35mm adapter on the front. :-)

Haunting, beautifully shot, scored and played... a real treat... and an exceptional film. None of that's 'easy'.
