Chris Cornell is god no matter what he does. I love everything he does, simply because he makes it. Truly one of the few musical visionaries of our time and the times to come. Keep on being you Chris.
Yeh I like all Chris's music to varying degrees...but he frequently comes across as very idealistic, and often contradictory...he's too ernest to admit that he's talking a lot of shit..d-:

Originally I didn't like Scream but it really grew on me after a while. if you dismissed it after listening to it only once try it out again it's worth it
ROFLMAO - my goodness - well - uhhhhh - if he sold out, havn't noticed it - never did like Black Hole Sun until heard acoustic version.......am huge fan of grunge.....and Chris Cornell...... I don't necessarily think one sells out if ventures into the "superunknown".....glad he had the guts to do bc his solo music been tremendous hlp, spiritually to deal w painful experience & gives me new perspective. AND BTW I aint that HO in "Scream" as someone acts as if!!!!!!!! TY CHRIS!!!
WOW.....these guys are good bullshitters but not even bullshit can save cornells career now you sellout fuck. Selling out by his own opinion is reforming soundgarden....which he has done now, so by his own admission he is a sellout. Man what a piece of money grabbing shit. Scream is not a pop album....? What fucking album did you dickheads listen too?
@Alhambrattp 1.) Chill, 2.) You don't like it, don't listen to it, 3.) There is no definition for sellout, it's all opinion based: basically, what YOU think is uncool. All of what you said is a clear indicator that your not a musician. Chris Cornell is, and he got bored doing the same thing. He's just one of the few who's talented enough to cross genres. PS... Beatles are pop, think about it.
True it's all opinion based thus my opinion cannot be uncool as it is just my opinion. If he was going to give his followers a timberlake album he should have said so, not say "this is the most diverse album I have ever done" That's usually a prelude to total shit. I don't like the beatles either lol.
For someone who has made a significant mark in rock music, he doesn't need to sell out. Just because he did something different, something more mainstream, doesn't mean he's selling out.
I just saw thath is twitter mentioned something about an Asian tour!! Has it ever happened? I really hope he (or Soundgarden) comes to southeast asia.
interesting to hear him say 'If I wanted to sell out he would reform older bands of his for a ton of money playing songs that he wrote back in '92'
Ta da! Soungarden reformation tour on it's way complete with three expanded versions of Telephantasm, a DVD, a deluxe three-LP vinyl edition and an individually numbered super deluxe collector’s edition.
Don't get me wrong I'm a massive Soundgarden fan and the whole 'Sell out' thing with music is bullshit 99% of the time. But did he just say that?
The diff between sellouts and chris is, that chris isn't a materialist, and really does it for the music. Not to make money. he just likes music. And isn't it funny that a rockstar owns r 'n b artists?
No wonder Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington and the Linkin Park guys are so close. They both make music which are bloody unique and take risks but people just can't accept the change and listen to their stuff as individual albums. Dude, this is CHRIS CORNELL. He can do anything he likes. If he wants to do grunge, he would go back to Audioslave or Soundgarden, which he recently did by the way.
EVERYONE SAYS HE'S A SELLOUT!!!!!!!!!!!!! HE'S NOT! He never did anything for the public!!!! he made Scream because it's fun to explore other Genres!!!!!!!!!!! He got back with Soundgarden because he wanted to!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't like Scream, but i'm not gonna bash him for wanting to do something different!!!!! I'm not just gonna be a blues guitarist!!! I'm not just gonna play clean! I want to explore other shit!!! not for anyone else but me!! Not selling out!! Case dismissed!!
I give Chris Cornell all the stars in the world.. You are a freaking genius.. I am amazed at this Scream album.. You should "never stop doing this". You are up there when it comes writing and producing real stuff.. I love the story line and I cant stop listening to it.. all the time eveyday.. I tell everyone to check it out and now you have even more followers of your music.. love ya man.. and proud of all ur changes.. You r a real man....
Chris Cornell ...... WTF? "POP" Wow it has to be money driven it has to be. There is know fuckin way that the same guy that sang and wrote Rusty Cage would go guitar less . I dont get it and i wish i had never seen this video. BUMMER
i love love love chris cornell, audioslave, and i love soundgarden i just wish he didnt say what he said at 2.07 because this really does mean that he sold out. .. according to his own words.just watched him at lollapalooza a day ago with his old band soundgarden singing music he wrote in 1992. . . . :-( i just wish this interview never happened
@davedorger Agree with you there, R&B is tragic, and a part of me died when Scream was released. But thank god Cornell dropped that idea and reformed SG.
Sell out would be getting an older band of his back together and playing big shows.....so cornell is a sellout then even by his own definition. What he wanted going into it is money. You watch he will try to bury this moment from his career hence an all of a sudden Soundgarden reunion.
I dont get the comparison of formulating Soundgarden, breaking in against the world ie something new, with a cohab with Timbaland which is a sound thats been around a looong time. Yeah I shouldnt speak cos I havent listened to the whole catalogue but Ive heard about 3 tracks plus scream a few times and thats what Im basing it on. Hes a great (sic) singer. Too great to be wasted on this shit. turn it around and tell HIM what to do Chris, or else go for something that is truly new you can do it
its not fare to typecast chris... if he feels like exploring different sounds then... that is what been an artist is about.... it is not easy to come up with different ideas and expose them to the public... even more if the public is a bunch of close minded grunge heads who never made it out of the 90s....
i like chris music but not in this genre. i just dont like timbalands beats n how he thinks anything he makes is the second coming. I appreciate all different types of music but i really dont like this. Just an honest opinion sorry chris
It's a gay sellout album chris you fucked your career. No person from cornell's core fan base all thses years supporting him and his music will support this bullshit. Fuck you cornell. Now he just "sold out" again in cornell's mind as in the interview by a Soundgarden reunion, Im not buying it.
It's funny seeing him talking about getting his old bands back together as being "selling out", in the light of this somewhat mediocre Soundgarden reunion.
As for Scream, it wasn't really pushing any kind of musical boundaries. I love all kinds of music, and I just thought that this was very mediocre hip hop (Timbaland is a pretty bad producer) with vocals that really didn't fit (Chris's has a good voice, but not for hip hop). Personally, I class it as one of the worst albums I've ever heard.
selling out aint about changing to pop, its about switching to genre that you dont wanna play or are about, and switch just cause ur genre is going unpopular.
By his own admission then he is a sellout because he reunited with soundgarden lol. not that this is actually true obviously that is the best possible move for fans and me and maybe hearing this album made him realise thats what he needed to do. personally i dont think its bad not my sort of music but if it was played when i am out id appreciate it more than most the other garbage floating about.
You're the kind of person that's rotting todays society...
Sellout =/= changing styles.
Then again, retards think Metallica sold out in the 90s when they decided four albums of hardcore metal-in-your-face was enough and wanted to evolve like any good band does (hear this yet, Slayer? Your evolution was ripping off of Metallica).
Bands become famous -because- they are adventurous and change styles, not the other way around.
@soopercoobear I wish everyone thought like you. Scream and the new Linkin Park album A Thousand Suns have very similar feedback in terms of stepping out of the box. Too bad people can't appreciate positive change.
finally? look how many platinum records are on the wall behind him? choosing what kind of music you play, does not equate selling out. He's an artist in search of new ways to tickle his music muscle. He's in his 40s and he's sick of being "that grunge guy." i'm not a fan of the record, myself, but good on him for deciding to step out of the box.
same here but at least he didnt get into REALLy poppy stuff like Tpain like he did what he does best make music that sounds good but different than the norm i dontlike it eithe though
That actually was the only R&B record I could actually listen to.
His vocal ability is amazing and he just proved with that record that he can sing other styles of music - that he is that good.
One way of looking at it is (Ok, this is my interpretation) as a big call to other artists saying "Hey, this is how it could be if you didn't rely so much on digitally enhanced (?) vocals".
I didn't know he switched to the "pop" record company timblerland the first time I listened to his new album and I still didn't like it. I miss audioslave. :(
Chris is free to do whatever the fuck he wants. I don't like the music he's making now, as I am a huge Soundgarden fan. I hope someday they'll reunite, but if they don't thats fine. You don't have to like the shit Chris is making now, I sure don't, I can listen to Soundgarden, Temple of The Dog, Audioslave (etc) If I wanna hear Chris at his best. So give him a fuckin break, If wants to try something new, he should be able to without fear of criticism.
intelligent guy. i like him. i'd like to hear the whole record... but i was shocked at the initial clips i heard. i might give it a fair listen sometime b4 i decide what i think about it. props on his crucified kermit decoration.
I wasn't a major fan of Chris till Audioslave, which I wasn't a fan of in the start... as I was a big RATM fan and found it hard to accept him! Soon as I heard their first album I was hooked + they were sweet live!
Now this shit happens! I really don't know what he's at.. is it a mid life crisis or something?? Timbaland re-hashes the same old beats over and over! It's fucking tired! Chris' really let himself and the majority of his "Fans" down with this blatent shit. For Shame!
It's not shit, you just don't like it because you're not a fan of the genre.
A fan of RnB could argue that Audioslave had a lot of the same guitar rifts over and over again...
I like Cornell's old stuff, I was a huge Soundgarden fan before I even knew who Cornell was. The guy is an individual artist though and he's free to do his own thing. He's not Audioslave or Soundgarden, those were bands.
''what sesame street character are you most like?''....- imagine how much shit chris would've given the interviewer if he'd asked him that 10 years ago....
Thats not a question you ask musicians, thats a question you ask the jonas brothers
agreed the interviewer is a piece of shit who relies on twitter to generate his questions. chris is still a visionary musician regardless of what bullshit questions he deals with in shitty interviews.
For sure.. He has patients though.. If it would have been me I would have said "NEXT QUESTION" That person probably never heard a Chris Cornell song in his life. Had a chance to ask 1 question to the God of Grunge and came up with that Micky Mouse bullshit...WTF.. If I had 1 question to ask him it would be If he ever thinks about Andrew Wood anymore and if he ever thought about writing another one for him...
and i also understand what ur going through with scream and what ur trying to do with ur music
i understand and respect what u do and how u do it
but im still a fan of ur new stuff, no matter how different it might sound from ur old days
ill always b a massive fan of ur's chris!
u saved my life and gave me guidance and direction and made the impossible seem possible and made it cool to be different and free from the shit everyone else does
ill give u props chris for ur little Kermit on the cross.
iv had shit like that happen 2 me! i do something cool but never become famous
then few years down the line some other ass becomes like a god 4 those ideas and gets super rich and famous
but they werent the first person to think those ideas up. so at least u were the first to think it up! which to me makes u more creative, out of the box and spontaneous!
anyone who - like me - was more interested in looking at him as he spoke rather than in listening to what he was talking about, click thumbs up ;)))) or thumbs down, just like you guys did with bobbipor ;)))
k he is half retarded u can here it in the way he talks. he probly didnt write the music he did in soundgarden. he is not a intellectual, not a leader. just a man that can sing but without a clue what to sing about
Right now he's defending his musical direction like a politician defends controversial policies, and probably anticipated the questions and planned his answers but I bet if he made another better album that was to compliment his roots he'd openly disown scream ''oh, THAT album''
Dont get me wrong, its clear by my name i know how awesome his other albums were....mainly the soundgarden albums, and tho im massively disappointed by scream I dont really troll on here about how much of a sellout he is, im grateful to him for writing some of the best rock music ever and will always respect the guy, he made a big mistake with scream but everyone makes mistakes, I just think he knows he made a bad turn and he;s trying to save face in these interviews , and who can blame him?
I don't think he thinks he's made a bad decision I think its more so how he thought the CD would be received is different then how it actually was, though watching the interview again, I do see what you were talking about.
Dude stop, he's NOT Soundgarden, he's an individual artist and you and his other pissy fans needs to fucking learn that.
Individual artists often take a lot of different paths, you can only do the same thing for so long.
As a musician I get where's he's coming from, I love playing rock on my guitar, but I also love playing classical flute, piano, and would love to learn to play the violin or perhaps slide guitar? Music is music, it's not a band.
as a musician i know where you're coming from re piano etc but to include timbaland beats in the same class is misinformed...have fun with scream by by all means but please leave me and all the others who know corporate shite disguised as "a new direction" when we see it to our pissiness
I honestly think Cornell sounds as if he's just interested in a new sound.
He interacted with the corporate world when he was in Soundgarden and Audioslave...what's the difference here? Timbaland is a more well known label?
I mean I understand your point and admire the fact that you have a mistrust and dislike of the corporate music world, I just don't think Cornell is selling out by making an album from that specific label.
Thats cool man im quite happy to agree to disagree, my point is just if you look at Timbaland and the type of artists he normally works with, then think of Badmotorfinger era soundgarden then it shows how terribly mismatched they are, and that there can never be any fertile creative ground where these two can possibly meet and expect to come up with something groundbreakingly original and listenable. At least we havnt resorted to the level of insults I try my best to avoid all that!
I can see where you're coming from, it is a really bizarre combination. Sometimes artists are just bizarre?
You know if you ask drug addicts why they use drugs, a lot of them say "i was curious." I kind of relate the same thing to making some of the unusual choices Cornell makes. I honestly think he's just curious, I can't really get mad at someone for being curious. I suppose it could do a lot of harm to his career though.
I agree btw, I don't understand why people get so angry over the net
chris cornell is a paradigm breaker. in the 80s/90s he built grunge. now grunge is established and he- just like he didn't want to be part of the glam establishment- he doesn't want to be part of the grunge/hard rock establishment. he hasn't sold out, he's actually stayed true to his fundamental values.
blows your mind huh?
also, grunge probly gives him bad memories/temptations of drugs/alcohol/smoking and he probably wants to get away from that
I agree. Chris's music has always been very free. It's a sense of doing what he wants to do, regardless of what we agree with. Which I don't think is disrespect, its art really. Same way you go to an art museum and you see a couple of paintings by an artist and its as simple as I like this one but not his one. So as Fans thats what it should be like when we compare albums I guess, make it as simple as I like all Soundgarden and a Couple audioslave albums, thats it.
lol I've only heard one song so far, and I didn't really like it. On the other side though, as a musician he's already proved himself. Is there any reason he can't just try something? He's got all the money he needz, and he's doing/trying what he feelz like.
Why do people give the guy such a hard time? Just give the guy a break. He's doing what he likes to do and that's to write and make music. People don't have to like it but they should give the guy a break. I doubt that half the people that talk shit about his music could even strum a guitar or bang a drum.
@Kytonrohto You said, " I doubt that half the people that talk shit about his music could even strum a guitar or bang a drum". ~I don't care about your comment on Chris Cornell, but I must say I would rather pick up a play and study a movie then play an instrument. If I could play an instrument though it would be a piano because it is mind soothing. But if someone would say music or theater. I'm sorry, I love theater. My point.....Music isn't the only love that there is out in the world.
@MartyMoves Because I don't like people that make judgemental comments on "what gift is better". You shouldn't do that because everyone is different. Music by almost all people is important and everything, but to say its the one above all gifts is wrong. Now I'm here to listen to good music and music related things that interest me. But when a person makes a comment like that I will be opinionated.
Ya know, it may not really be my kind of music (I liked 2 songs off of "Scream"), but after seeing this interview, I kind of have a better appreciation of the album itself.
in the 90's we thought maybe chris sold his soul at the crossroads for his talent, then after soundgarden his mojo faded and perhaps he made enough money to buy his soul back but gave up his talent, after doing the Timbaland album I am convinced his is infact satan.
Dude Soundgarden was NOT Chris Cornell, Cornell is an individual artist who makes his own artistic decisions.
Do you honestly think he needs the money??
Or the fame? Look at how many views his videos get, he doesn't need that either.
Could it just be that he happens to like making this kind of music? Sheesh, fucking fanboys need to stop obsessing so much over bands and artists. They're people too, who make their own decisions.
I loved his music from the 80's to '97 (And Audioslave)... It's not only that the lyrics were amazing and that the music was great but I was able to connect to the attitude of the time... It's one thing to connect with the lyrics, but when you can also connect to the "scene", it makes music much more special... I just can't connect to Scream or Chris Cornell's solo projects because it's not my scene...
Audioslave was also a great band. I can connect to the lyrics but not to the scene...
any artist that is respected for EVERY piece of music and has experienced success for every album has sold out a bit at some point. An artist that hasn't sold out usually has at least two albums that a lot of people don't really like.
a musician that sells out has nothing to do with other people. I t has to do with selling out to yourself. If you ain't gratifying yourself you sure ain't gratifying anybody. Thus your lying to you and the people listening. Has nothing to do with album sales or fame or whatever.
Anyone who would work with a guy like Timbaland, is simply looking for a quicky on the charts. I really loved both his singing and writing in Soundgarden, Audioslave etc. But this is simply putting out. Prostituting yourself to get an easy, shallow, stripped and ignorant charttopper is just plain sad... And I'm sorry for chris bending over and just taking the current american music culture up in the butt. By the way V19torrent. Don't you compare this piece of crap with the psychedelic genre!!!
Its the fact that, rock now adays sucks, everything about rock, for cornell to go to the new wave genre that everybody likes feels a bit of a betrayal and a bit of selling out i mean come on, what do u hear on the side of your street corner, some deuches playing some rap crap, or some black girls sing along to some hip hop soong, or some latin ppl dancing to R&B its like what someone said below it becomes boring after a while, everyones doing the samething now adays and to see him go to it hurts
I mean the only reason you ppl are saying its good (im asuming) is because it is chris cornell, because if u take cornell and put one of those other artist in there you''d most likely wouldnt like it, im guessing most of you are just defending chris cause his chris, and thats cool, but im not trying to attack the guy, im just saying in someways to me it felt like a sell out, and it hurts me as a fan cause this man inspired me to become a musician but to see him turn to someting else bothers
It's strange how the direction of this interview looks like an invention of solitude, a person who doesn't even know how to say: "I like this or I don't like this . Did you notice how much you seem to be worried by something behind your right back ?Is it this 16:55 fear ?
It will probably take a few more listens for Scream to grow on me, but I can appreciate Chris' motives- if you play the same thing your whole career you're just going to get boring, so why not do something new? And besides, he's very calculated and charismatic, like a Jim Morrison of the new-era. Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden, Audioslave and his solo work all rule- long live Chris Cornell!
its funny how people really hate on this guy when they were so called fans. if people fail to realize he's an artist and artist happens to go outside the box at times.

All of what you said is a clear indicator that your not a musician. Chris Cornell is, and he got bored doing the same thing. He's just one of the few who's talented enough to cross genres. PS... Beatles are pop, think about it.
TheNkordalis 11 months ago
@TheNkordalis

MissusFingerBottom 1 year ago
interesting to hear him say 'If I wanted to sell out he would reform older bands of his for a ton of money playing songs that he wrote back in '92'

You're the kind of person that's rotting todays society...
Sellout =/= changing styles.
Then again, retards think Metallica sold out in the 90s when they decided four albums of hardcore metal-in-your-face was enough and wanted to evolve like any good band does (hear this yet, Slayer? Your evolution was ripping off of Metallica).
Bands become famous -because- they are adventurous and change styles, not the other way around.

ruthisatool88 2 years ago
It's not shit, you just don't like it because you're not a fan of the genre.

Soundgardener80 2 years ago
I don't think he would be like that at all. Chris seems to treat everyone of his albums with the same respect.
Chris has so many albums to listen to I don't know why people keep judging him for scream.
rs3nik 2 years ago
Dont get me wrong, its clear by my name i know how awesome his other albums were....mainly the soundgarden albums, and tho im massively disappointed by scream I dont really troll on here about how much of a sellout he is, im grateful to him for writing some of the best rock music ever and will always respect the guy, he made a big mistake with scream but everyone makes mistakes, I just think he knows he made a bad turn and he;s trying to save face in these interviews , and who can blame him?
Soundgardener80 2 years ago
I don't think he thinks he's made a bad decision I think its more so how he thought the CD would be received is different then how it actually was, though watching the interview again, I do see what you were talking about.
rs3nik 2 years ago
Dude stop, he's NOT Soundgarden, he's an individual artist and you and his other pissy fans needs to fucking learn that.
Individual artists often take a lot of different paths, you can only do the same thing for so long.
As a musician I get where's he's coming from, I love playing rock on my guitar, but I also love playing classical flute, piano, and would love to learn to play the violin or perhaps slide guitar? Music is music, it's not a band.
Sshelly34213 2 years ago
as a musician i know where you're coming from re piano etc but to include timbaland beats in the same class is misinformed...have fun with scream by by all means but please leave me and all the others who know corporate shite disguised as "a new direction" when we see it to our pissiness
Soundgardener80 2 years ago
What exactly is wrong with Timbaland?
I honestly think Cornell sounds as if he's just interested in a new sound.
He interacted with the corporate world when he was in Soundgarden and Audioslave...what's the difference here? Timbaland is a more well known label?
I mean I understand your point and admire the fact that you have a mistrust and dislike of the corporate music world, I just don't think Cornell is selling out by making an album from that specific label.
Sshelly34213 2 years ago
Thats cool man im quite happy to agree to disagree, my point is just if you look at Timbaland and the type of artists he normally works with, then think of Badmotorfinger era soundgarden then it shows how terribly mismatched they are, and that there can never be any fertile creative ground where these two can possibly meet and expect to come up with something groundbreakingly original and listenable. At least we havnt resorted to the level of insults I try my best to avoid all that!
Soundgardener80 2 years ago
I can see where you're coming from, it is a really bizarre combination. Sometimes artists are just bizarre?
You know if you ask drug addicts why they use drugs, a lot of them say "i was curious." I kind of relate the same thing to making some of the unusual choices Cornell makes. I honestly think he's just curious, I can't really get mad at someone for being curious. I suppose it could do a lot of harm to his career though.
I agree btw, I don't understand why people get so angry over the net
Sshelly34213 2 years ago

on a less philosophical note, i think chris cornell looks possessed when he points his head down and looks at "skee"
dan99467 2 years ago
chris cornell is a paradigm breaker. in the 80s/90s he built grunge. now grunge is established and he- just like he didn't want to be part of the glam establishment- he doesn't want to be part of the grunge/hard rock establishment. he hasn't sold out, he's actually stayed true to his fundamental values.
blows your mind huh?
also, grunge probly gives him bad memories/temptations of drugs/alcohol/smoking and he probably wants to get away from that
dan99467 2 years ago

@Kytonrohto You said, " I doubt that half the people that talk shit about his music could even strum a guitar or bang a drum". ~I don't care about your comment on Chris Cornell, but I must say I would rather pick up a play and study a movie then play an instrument. Dude Soundgarden was NOT Chris Cornell, Cornell is an individual artist who makes his own artistic decisions.

Prostituting yourself to get an easy, shallow, stripped and ignorant charttopper is just plain sad...
