I had my 16 yr old belove dcat Fluf put down 2 days ago from the same sickness. Heartbroken and sick about it but happy that she will not suffer again.
To those whose kitties have been diagnosed with lymphoma - my cat Tigger had a diagnosis of early stage small cell lymphoma 2 and a half years ago. He was having to eat through a tube and was very, very ill - he was much sicker than the kitty in this video (couldn't walk around, etc.), but he made a full recovery and has been very well for well over two years now, so it is treatable in some cases.
R.I.P Billy. May I ask how old Billy was? My cat Cheetoz just went under exploratory surgery 5 days ago because the doctors couldnt find out why he kept vomitting and not eating. He did drink LOTS of water which was weird because he usually didnt drink much. The biopsy results came out 2 days ago and they said he has early stage lymphoma. :( Hes on feeding tube resting at home but my families so devastated. Hes only 9. :( im so scared.
I'm sorry for your loss. 8 days is a very short time to prepare for the goodbyes... My cat had a lymphoma inside her head. She survived for 9 months after the diagnosis, so I had the time... but still was not ready for the goodbyes. It was very wise of you to take the video and keep it to enhance your good memories :)
Our animals are like children who give us so much joy. My heart goes out to those who have tried to make decisions in trying to figure out what's best for the cat or pet. I lost 4 cats to cars hitting them, so I didn't have to decide anything with them. Deciding the right time to euthanize an animal is so hard. But get second opinions! Try medicines like Lasix because it's worth a try. It's hard to let go - when your cat no longer eats, nor plays or breathes w/ mouth open, it's time.
My cat Smokey, looks identical to yours, same thing happened to her, but her lungs filled with FIP fluids as well, she was only three. We couldn't afford the lifeitme operations and it would have been to hard on her. I miss her so much, it only happened yesturday. When we left the pet hospital, I hurled, i don't know what to do...
@NigaWhyUeatChicken Found out the same today with my 4 1/2 yr-old cat. Fluid around lungs, not enough space to breathe. He's breathing rapidly. They tried draining 2 Coke cans worth of fluid & it didn't change his state. Brought him home now. They say he's in pain & suffering but it's hard to make the decision to euthanize. I can't do all the tests b/c it's $4,000. I'm heartbroken beyond belief. I feel for everybody w/ the same issue. I have given him catnip which he seems to still like.
@Grendelmonster8u We ahd to make that decison aswell, but they told us she would have to have the fluids 't removed quite often, and throughout the rest of her life, and there was a big chance she wouldnt even make it throguh the surgerys, i still miss her today, but i think we did the right thing, because she feels a whole lot better now, and she's in a great place, and you just have to think about it that way, i feel for you, beleive me, she was my favorite kitty, and very loving...

@NigaWhyUeatChicken Thxs. We're trying Lasix which is supposed to show effects in 4 days but I don't see any changes in breathing yet. I keep monitoring his breathing rate which is anywhere from high 30s to 54 breaths per minute. The vet did not suggest for me to euthanize him yet, but the ER kind of encouraged it. He's eating, likes his catnip, is affectionate, so I don't think he's in pain but he's not his usual self. Friend had same issue due to kidney prob but cat lived for 2 more years.
Billy is so adorable, and he loves getting petted, doesn't he. I am so sorry for your loss. I had a cat named Buddy who was diagnosed with lymphoma, and I know how absolutely devastating it can be.
He had been drinking a lot of water and apparently, not eating that much. I had 2 cats at the time and didn't notice the lack of eating.....plus, unbeknownst to me, he had fluid building up around his heart and lungs, so he looked "healthy".....full, muscular like. I thought he was doing great! Allegedly Orange Cats are more susceptible to the Leukemia Virus and Lymphoma than other cats, BUT they are all prone so some disease or other, it seems. GET YOUR PETS CHECKED AND CHECKED REGULARLY !!!!
This is a video of my arm and my late cat Billy. This was taken the day he came home from the vet's with a lymphoma diagnosis and a few days left to live.
All after he was just breathing funny one day. Well he lasted 8 days, so that was better than expected. May he rest in peace. . . my little buddy, Billy. Named after Bill Hicks, the best comedian ever........ever.......ever.
@TheDocDougherty It's so sad. This is the case with my cat now. (See my comment below.) I don't know what to do yet. Did you have him euthanized or did he die at home? I hate to ask but this is my dilemma. They say he's in pain from this rapid breathing. I don't want him to suffer. Unlike Billy here mine is not being affectionate & doesn't like to be touched. (Not normal.) I'm afraid to leave him alone but we both can't live this way. Every time he does something normal I have this hope. But...
The vets gave me some meds to ease pain and he seemed stable and full of energy. The vet said when I again saw signs of breathing problems, weakness etc, to bring him in to be put down. The symptoms didn't come back and as I was also giving him anti-cancer herbs I read about, I thought they were working. Then all of a sudden, on day 8, after giving him some herbs, he started breathing funny again and I freaked out to get him to the vet real quick and he pretty much keeled over in front of me
@TheDocDougherty My cat's rapid breathing hasn't stopped, but he's eating some & ate about 10 treats. I keep watching him to see if he starts breathing w/ his mouth open, then it's rush to put him to sleep; I don't want him to asphyxiate. Can't tell if he's in pain or just uncomfortable, but I know it's inevitable b/c he's been lethargic for a week. His personality is gone, doesn't want cuddling, can't get to purr, isn't babbling like his usual self. It's so hard. We give them a good life. Thx.
