  • Charlie Cordellia plays the clarinet on an alternate take. I like this one better.

  • I was mistaken on my last comment. Jimmy Lytell plays clarinet.

  • Rappolos original solo is one of the best clarinet solos in recorded jazz, to my mind.

  • This is defenatly not roppolo, This is the same version of that is on the 80'th anniversary box set of RCA victor jazz. It lists Cordella on clarinet.

  • Yes. I used to have it on a 45 rpm record but it got lost somewhere many years ago. I thought that Paul Mares was great on it. I seem to remember it had the verse on it too. I'd really appreciate hearing it again.

  • Have you also got Golden Leaf Strut, which was recorded by the same line-up, I believe.

  • @snamhadoir72 I do have a copy of this, it's Milenberg Joys under another name, but a great rendition and piece of jazz history. Maybe I'll upload it sometime.

  • It's not Rappolo, but Cordella, but it's Rappolo' original solo, played note by note.

  • Not Rappolo on this version. This is the RCA version with Charlie Cordilla taking the clarinet solo. Rappolo is on the Colombia. they were recorded a few days apart.

  • Thanks for that, I stand corrected.

  • The exquisite clarinet solo by Leon Rappolo in this recording is of great lyric beauty. I have this piece at home in a jazz anthology on LP records that I bought nearly 40 years ago, and it is very nostalgic to listen to...

  • This is one of the last recordings of this wonderful band: many thanks for this gem.
