  • Heeeeeey! i watched you last year Izzy. I'm back. This my family's second year making them...YOUR WAY. Aye, everybody...they're great! As a matter of fact, we're about to make ours now. Shalom

  • Can you show us how to make chopped herring???

  • Man, you are very illuminated! Wonderful receipts!

  • everybody is sayin its nasty lolz

  • Izzy Yeshua hu' ha Adon...love this video

  • " olive oil don't "brent" ". XD

I'm an israeli jew and my grandfather was also born in poland. Izzy's polish-yiddish accent is quite familiar to my ears.

I wish him many more years of happiness and cooking.

    Happy Passover!

  • @Belson20 I thought he was saying, "Olive oil don't burn." For frying you need a fat which won't smoke or burn at a high temperature.

  • @sincerelyyours2000

6:01 'brent'(he actually says "bren") means 'burns' in yiddish/german so u got what he meant to say.

the funny thing is he's really ok with mixing yiddish words in every other language he speaks, just like my grandfather.

another example 1:14 "you don't have to do MIT('with') the HENT('hands').

also notice he pronounces his final G's like K's("makink", "doink" etc) just like in yiddish/german.

  • Thank you for sharing!

  • Great camera technique. Been looking for a knish recipe, particularly for the dough. It was enjoyable to watch the gentleman making it. I grew up in Brooklyn in the 50s and knew what that number on his arm signified- God bless, he's a survivor.

  • Hehehehe. I always use that rule, one egg for each potato! Great vid!

  • My grandmother used to make these but we called them belinis. My great aunt Rose cooked them and served them with apple sauce and sour cream! Yummy! Now, I make them and everyone who knows that I'm going to make them comes over with empty stomachs and big smiles! Ah, the simple things in life!

  • he is great great for future generations to have these recipes

Hope they are all written down

    All his memories as well

    dont let the world forget

  • he knew hitler in person

  • I want all of his recipes

  • He looks good for his age! He has a kosher oven by GE I think. I squeeze the water out of my potato's and no flour. I might try this, he is the expert. :)

  • @AdamLily7 yes?

  • Geshmak! A groys dank.

  • he's missing his middle finger

  • Nice recipe, Izzy! Will have to try it.

  • Just returned from Germany, and I could not believe the numbers of Israelis over there hoisting and swilling beer. I winessed their drunken behavior from Muenchen to Hannover, and I was quite surprised since these people used to snear at beer and only downed sticky sweet wines. It seems that the Israelis now want to be like the Germans only they don't know about moderation, nor do they have honest work.

  • @DaveyKiddy What do you mean "these people use to sneer at beer ..." You're an asshole. Jewish people are like anybody else, some like beer some don't and that goes for all facets of life. Moron.

  • @Lagolop

Are you obsessed with jews? Is your boyfriend a Jew? Fucking faggot.

  • @VikingWarCry Yes, I am obsessed with Jews. How do you know I'm a homosexual. Not that I have any issues with gays. I am secure with my own sexuality and I am hetero. Now, often times when an individual such as yourself hurls sexual epithets, it is because they have their own sexual hang ups, thus, they use sexual pejoratives to somehow cover for their own feelings of inadequacy. Don't you agree?

  • @Lagolop

THe reason why I "hurl sexual epithets" is because of YOU. IDIOT! hahahhaa

  • @VikingWarCry Oh dear ,ya got me there. Quick come back, kuksugare :) I see you still have not responded to me based on my private message to you you coward piece of excrement.

  • @Lagolop

    Faggot.

  • @VikingWarCry As I explained before, you are being disrespectful to this person's channel. In addition, your persistence on calling me a "faggot" only shows us all your own sexual insecurities. IS this what makes you so hate filled? You may be gay and you hate yourself for it so you project that self loathing outwardly by hurling sexual epithets. I am not gay but I have no issues with anyone who is. I'm quite secure with my heterosexuality. Your hatred will only hurt you.

  • @Lagolop

You said this guy survived world war 2, well about 60 million non-jews died during the war so he should be happy that he is still alive. I couldnt care less about the guy.

You´re a rabbit loving jew-obssessed faggot. You´re in denial, thats all.

  • @Lagolop

You´re obsessed with jews because you are one. Have you never wondered why EVERYONE hates the jews and have always done so? You´re a perfect example, a typical jew.

  • sir i have great respect for you as a person. It makes me feel like a complete idiot to take for granted for all that i have.

  • i busted a gut when the guy got up from the table and said , this is so nasty i need some applesauce lol?!!!

  • Go Izzy Go!

    You're hired.

  • I just could not stop watching this. Izzy is such a character:D A shame he had to experience concentration camps though:(

  • couple of mouthy kids there at the end.

    "Damn",."this is so nasty"

Should take em down and feed them dehydrated fish and tell em to enjoy. :)

  • Potato Latkes is also a Jewish recipe. It is different from Norwegian potato pancakes or Polish Placki Kartoflane because the Jewish recipes use no milk, butter, sour cream or lard. The latkes are fried in oil.

  • thats not jewish cooking, this rcipe is used almost in all eastrrn europe nd even northern, itz potato pancaces

  • very lovely, thank you for sharing your family with us.

  • This is when, as a young person, you shut and listen, denn you might learn sometink! Love the accent and hats off to Mr. Izzy. Nice recipe sir!

  • What a lovely house! and U seem like a great cook!

  • Izzy Your terrific..you remind me of my uncle Jack..he made the best herring (all kinds) I will try your way of making latkes looks soooo good! best wishes

  • oh god sir i saw the number on your arm... i just studied about the halacaust and I wonder if the number tattoed on ur arm got something to do with the Holacaust em so sorry if someone find this comment offensive em just curious

  • The number was burned onto his arm in Auschwitz. He endured and survived 6 years of concentration camps.

  • @simonsezproduction Actually, numbers were tattooed, not burned onto people's arms.

  • @simonsezproduction Bless his heart, I bet hes a wonderful person.

  • Comment removed

  • I thought after you shred the potatoes..you are supposed to squeeze the liquid out..but he grated his so fine. Looks good though!!

  • Very nice...i'm gonna try making that tonight!

  • German food is the best!

  • reminds me of good home cooking.

  • I thought it was a nice kitchen. Everything is white, even the Kitchen-Aid mixer. If I was a millionaire, I'd get a small house, too; and give more money to charities.

  • Okay, everyone has things that remind them of bad experiences. Elvis Presley never liked antique furniture; it reminded him of the old broken-down things his family had to use when he was young?

What are your ideas about charity, soupkin?

  • I'd spend it on hookers and blow.

  • Nice work, we liked your video very much so we embedded it on ChefCommons w/ link back and reference to Youtube. (Let us know if you don't wish for it to be featured)

  • I like how the guy at the end says "This is so nasty"

  • looks very good i will be trying this soon

  • "you have to have a feeling" LOL

    love him! :D

  • Thank you for sharing your recipe with us. My husband is gonna love this, all the ingredients he likes.

  • Wow I'm hungry. Every other year I go to Israel and Jordan for archaeological digs and may I say the food over there is absolutely amazing. I'm Christian but kosher dishes are excellent and very healthy

  • I´m not Jewish, but I want to make this myself - looks delicious.

  • i wanna be jewish . im facinated with jewishness. want latkes!!!!!!11

  • Yummy Thanks

  • the whole house gonna smell , LoL. the little child is right "damn this is to greasy"

  • Latkes are about oil. That's why Hanukkah is so much fun.

  • I know ....still I prefer it baked

  • they can be baked too?

  • Heck yea!! I love them baked and present them as a side dish with baked chicken legs

  • oh just remember to make it a bit thinker by adding more flower

  • Is pakistani or jewish kosher similar?

Pakistanis as I see here in NY eat only fresh butchered chicken, not from the froster.

  • Thanks Simon, I always knew that man outperforms woman in the kitchen too, I am myself a 63 yrs old one.

  • Is lobster kosher in modern jewish kitchen.

As the israeli mosaic zodiac shows, ancient jews has had lobster and fish as foods.

Is fish kosher too or forbidden?

  • lobster is not kosher fish is only kosher if it has scales. any shellfish is not kosher. chickens are kosher by how they are killed. Has nothing to do about frozen or not.

  • @simonsezproduction is sprite koshe toor? :D

  • @blackfootnavajo only if it has the "K" on it... pretty much goes for any item...

  • @simonsezproduction oh yeah it is kosher, i just read about it, sorry but thats funny :D nice video though.

  • When I make latkes, I put in also garlic[fresh crushed] and curry!

  • Izzy I am mexican and I see you have a great soul and spirit. I admire this of people. And I love to cook in my house, I can to smell itis delicious oh yes, yes sir.but i don`t millonaire like you only is a little dieference congratulations its see you cooking very delicious. see you

  • yum-that looks delicious..

  • Question, does this food bring one closer to God? I was just hired at a khoser butcher shop, Im learning. Thank you.

  • why wud u think that? only jews are obligated to each kosher foods.

  • yummi! :DDD

  • All these recipes are copied from the wonderful German cuisine.

  • סתום את הפה המחורבן שלך

  • I love these things :) And I love latkes.. I make it with many clotted cream and garlic. Try it ;)

And it was goodto read, that gulash is your favourite, but believe me, it's simply not jewish. Even if everybody cooks it here, 'couse it's Hungary's vary traditional food.

  • Gulas is obviously not authentic hungarian cuisine. It's gypsy.

  • Not really, brother. Gypsys have a similar stuff, but it's not the same at all. It contains different indigredients. Gulash was first made by cattle stockmen. Believe me, it's not gypsy, but almost every food have theire own kind for gypsys too, on theire own taste but they don't have traditional gypsy kitchen or foods. They preferred the foods that were made easily open-air.

שנה טובה וגמר חתימה טובה ,אחי

  • שנה טובה

Gypsy food is any food that has a steady guitar rythm in the background. :)

  • That's true, that's true :D :D

  • The CHEF is kind of cute :)

  • When will you tell us how to make "Czolent"?

  • yep! my mom still refuses a food processor, hand grater only!

thanks for this video. Kol HaKavod, beautiful man. :)

  • You mix it :)

  • I place my latkes on a cooling rack set over a shallow wide pan with the paper towels underneath to let any excess oil drip off. I really liked Izzy's recipe! Next time I'll make them using his proportions. Thanks so much for the video!

  • I bet they are tasty as hell, but they would be less greasy if he didn't crowd the pan so much.

One at a time is the way to go.

  • reibekuchen..... hmmmm... lecker...aber es muss noch apfelmus dabei sein :-)

to be honest i am too lazy to make them... i depend on my mother :-)

  • A Roma se chiama bujacca!

  • i have to go make them they look great!

  • The real thing thanks for this G.d Bless

  • Those latkes are the real deal & are pretty much the same latkes of my childhood; the latkes my late bubby used to make & my mom now makes & the ones I too make every Hannukah. People should take note of his recipe because no embellishments are required. Topped with some sour cream (& sometimes apple sauce) & these babies are over the top.

  • yumm looks good

  • wait, who's latkes were those kids eating at the end? hopefully not Izzy's.

  • there is some feelings in these pancakes . nice recipe i us chives , and yolks no white, garnish with chopped green onion or chives.

  • There are many ways to eat these my preference is apple sauce and a little sugar sprinkled right on the latke. Mmmmm

  • That's how I did when I was little, but as I got older I switched to the chives...

  • Actually, my grandfather was from a small town called Bokowsko, Poland near Sanok. He too was sent to a concentration camp and escaped the nazis. i have meals similar to this one every week. Thank you for posting this.

  • It tastes yummy with applesauce. You´ll need a lot of oil to fry them. Otherwise they did´nt taste that good.

  • Good video but the description is more then a little pompus and kind of cheesy.

  • Looks yummy I'm going to try making them!

  • too much oil

  • Might want to consider placing the microphone a little away from the preparation next time. Would avoid the nasty sounds during stirring.

  • This guy has a lot of heart and I am sure his food really schmecks.

  • some good cheese and some other spices would have made it

really good. As would have some chopped onions and

sour cream to go with. but still a commendable effort.

  • lol its so nasty..nice make fun of the food when all you did was..nothing!
