This car had a 50/50 weight distribution. No mushy spring-loaded steering wheel like you have on "sports sedans". The car did what you wanted it to do, there was a brain to tire connection. It didn't separate you from the road, it made you part it. It wasn't comfortable at times because you felt what it felt. It becomes an extension of you capable of going far and going fast.

I had good time with my '87 turbo until that drunk mother fucker run into my back at a red light. The road was 4 lanes wide and I was the only car stopped there. He could have run the light without hitting anything but he chose to use my 951 as a mean to brake...RIP my beloved 951.

@EJ944s Make sure your tensioner pads are in good shape! I had an 87 944S when I was 14, the cylinder head self destructed when the tensioner pads went bad.

The build quality on the new mustangs is much improved, check out the 2011 ones.

BUT, Excellance Mag did an article at this time last year putting a Porsche GT2 vs a Corvette ZR1. Not only did the ZR1 out gun the Porsche, but, for the first time EVER, out-handled it on a track... @hamronD73 Um, he's not exactly right, but neither are you. American car companies had financial problems for a lot of reasons. But as for quality, GM and Ford are every bit as good as 95% of the competition now, and the new Corvette is an absolute marvel. The Caddy CTS-V is also pretty amazing. In the 80s it was something of a different story, but to be fair Ferrari wasn't known for their quality then either. This is coming from someone who owns both a Porsche 944 and a Lotus Turbo Esprit.

with a car that weighs as much as the 944 turbo and has a perfect weight balance from front to back, it easily takes vettes mustangs etc, ive got a 44 s2 and i even took a hemi challenger yesterday... trying to snake me on an outside lane change. they most defs are not the fastest car on the road.. but its one of, especially modded with a chip and boost controller, larger fuel pump etc.

Although the stock 944 turbo list a 0-60 in 5.7 seconds, it doesn't take much at all to seriously drop that time. I have a 944 Turbo that does 65mph in first gear, and jumps to 90 in second. I can cruise at 140mph in 3rd gear with no problem or stress on it. I absolutely love that car. I've never came across anything on the road that has even put up a semi decent race with me. No new vettes, stangs, camaros, TA's or older muscle cars. It beats my Honda CBR 600 even.

I guess I wouldn't be too surprised if it could take the corvettes of its time but today even the base model corvette is in a whole different league without mods. I said there is no way a 944 turbo would take a CBR (honda street bike). Heck! A C6 corvette wouldnt take a CBR. Bikes are just fast.

I've seen them vary a bit from the factory. Regardless, the guy I was responding to said he'd like to see "03/04 cobras fuck with that" and the porsche 944 turbo is frankly a joke when comparing acceleration.

BTW, bolt ons, exhaust, and tune should have you hit 400+whp on the cobra. Perhaps your friend used a mustang dyno.

A 2003-2004 cobra has a DOHC forged 4.6L with an Eaton M112 supercharger.  It's not a 302. It's really easy to hit 400+ whp on those cars. Yes, I am aware of the 944 turbo-s, which is way slower than a 2003-2004 cobra. The cobras were underrated at 390 hp from the factory. Watch "oXeF4kZZ6jg" on youtube, which is a pretty typical example of the car responding to bolt-on modifications. You'll probably retract your statements.

The problem with your stock cobra is the piece of shit suspension prone to breaking loose with the slightest twitch of the steering wheel, causing, among other things, car flips at high speeds. You don't know what you are talkng about. My 951 (944turbo) has 500whp and 500wt on a dyno and is much faster than the newest 911 Twin Turbos and handles better to boot. Granted I use the 911TT brakes and it's far from stock.

I could easily have a 911 TT, but I prefer my 951 beast.
