Just came back from test driving one of these, thinking about purchasing it..........what experiences have you guys had with this vehicle? The one i'm looking at has a few miles on it so i'm more concerned with durability and reliability.
the tl is too much to maintain, and it drives a like a tank, yes its fast but its not as agile as the tsx. the tsx is much more fun to drive and it feels more like a drivers car. the engine displacement is well balanced, there is no torque steer like you get in the TL. y oppinon i have driven both and now i own a TSX
The 2004 to present models are amazing cars, very fast, very powerful, very torque. However when it comes to major repairs you do know its not as cheap as a TSX or CIVIC. TL is very reliable aslong you buy 2004 and up, you wont run into any major problems, besides regular servicing. oil change, spark plugs, batery, coolant flush, tranny fluid fluch, breaks, tires, etc...Its no cheaper then a BMW 3 series, which is no where near as reliable as a TL. what uear TL you buying, auto or manual milage?
Im looking at 04-06...Im wanting black on black with navi..my dealer has found all 05s so far but they have tan..Im not a fan of tan...but yeah Ive heard they are GREAT cars...I have just always been curious about how expensive the up-keep is...for example..I know a guy with BMW and he said that just for the 2 rear rotors (and pads I think) it was like $175...just little things are very expensive on BMW's...are the TL's also like that? But yeah..04-06..and with no more then like 55k miles
you have excellent taste my brother. i was gonna buy a white on tan 2004 a few months back. i dont have any kids and im single so i felt it was too much car for me. although iam 6 foot 25 years old. but it shouldnt be as expensive as the 3 series. the TL is built stronger so it could handle a little more abuse then a bmw which is very delicate. if your getting auto, dont over use the tipronic too much. its like a clutch the less u abuse it the longer it last. continued .....................
if your getting auto, dont over use the tipronic too much. its like a clutch the less u abuse it the longer it last. but the matainence is slightly more then the tsx. breaks and rotors arent too bad. you can always buy economy rotors and pads. they will not harm the car and it gets the job done. you can also find lightly used tires for winter, or summer save lots of money rather then buying brand new. the key to a healthy car is also using the right fuel and getting your changes on time.continue
please please use premium fuel...the last thing u need is regular...over time the gunk and carbons found in regular fuel wil contaminate your catlytic converter and oxygen sensor...you dont want to replace those...on my 2000 honda civic. the sensor alone was 275$ and the car has 2....the catalytic converter was 200$ used...i couldnt afford a new one. the car is alot like your body, you eat junk you look like junk...same rules apply to the car. hope this helps...let me know what u think.
Yeah..thanks...I wouldnt think the upkeep would be too bad since its not a german made car. I plan on taking very good care of it...with no abuse...and say the previous owner only put un-leaded fuel in it....would switching it to premium effect anything? I think someone told me that you might start blowing spark plugs and have to replace them? Dont know if its true...also..do you suggest synthetic oil?
well my dad is a mechanic, and he always says any honda/acura with over 100k miles. shouldnt use synthetic, because over time the seals with the pistons require a thicker gewieroil such as conventional to properly make there seats. meaing for them to break them selves in...because u are getting such low mileage, i would recommend using synthetic for now. until it gets a bit older. i currently use synthetic on my tsx, my 2000 civic i used conventional it had 250k miles.
continued...if the previous owner used regular fuel, along as he drove it rather then let it sit in the tank for long periods, you should be fine..make sure the check engine is not on, that usually means faluty oxygen sensor and faluty catalytic converter. when you recieve the car i reccomend filling her up with premium and also puting some STP octane booster, not sure if they sell it in your state. but any octane booster will work, it clean out any moisture, and also clean out the injectors
if you have to use regular and cannot always afford the premium make sure u drive it and try not idle often with regular fuel in your tank, that allows all the crap in the fuel to settle at the botom of your gas tank, the car cannot filter tha out. premium fuel burns better and last longer. and in the long run your car will benefit. how long do u plan on keeping the car, i want my tsx to last atleast 7 years which it will both the tsx and TL. :)
Thanks man...yeah I plan to do the premium ALL the time..and Im considering the synthetic oil like you said. Also when I do get it...I am going to re-new everything..shocks, rotors, brakes, flush radiator, flush tranny, air filter, fuel filter, everything..just to start fresh..and I wont ever use the manual mode..my car I have now has it and I NEVER use it...its not the same as a real manual box to me..nor is it fun really...and I plan to keep the car forever really...I LOVE TL's and dont plan
@gred89 well as far as engine and tranny goes there have been no problems reported with this car since launch in 2004. the 2006 is a great model, with new style rims, and updated gadgets in the cluster (spedometer area). i would recommend 6 speed manual, but the auto is just as good if your not into manual cluching. The reason I beleive this car was so reliable was because it was built in Japan, Just like the integra, which I have aswell. 99 GSR 300,000km and running smooth quiet and perfect.
@gred89 sorry i just saw this video so you may not are anymore but I bought an 06 tsx with 6-speed manual and navi in Dec '10. It had 85k on the odometer. It runs great so far, very smooth shifting, lots of power and really fun and sporty. No mechanical problems or anything. Only problem is that for a "premium sound system" i find the speakers kinda weak. Can't handle a lot of bass. Not that much of a fault really. Oh and you should put premium gas in it kinda sucks with gas prices so high,
I ended up buyin a 05 TL 6MT... Loving it so far.. except for that is really hard to engage the third gear... I might have to change the Transmission fluid
i almost bout an 04 tl 6mt but i didnt like how it drove, its too big and heavy and it feels quite sluggsh. dont get me wrong its fast and powerful but not as agile as my 05 tsx 6mt. yes i choose the tsx instead, how ever acura is the best none the less. but the TL was just not for me, i also tried auto in the tl and it feels more better in auto. 6 speed in the tl is just too much work, the steering is a bit on the stiff side cause of all the weight
i bought an 07 new and it was a good buy, as far as i'm concerned. Probably go lexus or benz for the next car, but i was impressed with the offering.
And the TL... well the reason i didn't buy it is because the back seats don't fold down, which is insane to me, plus i wasn't a huge fan of the interior.
The TL is the car of my dreams... But since im still in college I need to save some money with gas and I REFUSE to buy an automatic car, im going for the TSX!
i'm sure you would know since it's your car...but are you sure? it's sort of hidden in the center counsel. i guess maybe they just didn't in 05. stupid it is. 08 not only should of had a 6 disc in dash mp3 player but should have also had usb connect. i think the 09 does. but i hate the 09 from inside out. the best thing i like about 09 is the backup camera.
yeah, that is what really bothered me in the begining. in 07 i was hoping 08 would have an mp3 player, but it didn't. but even 08 civics have an mp3 player! it was even harder to get used to not having it because in my 95 accord i had installed an mp3 player with an additional 10 disc mp3 changer with a usb drive connect as well. that was so sweet but only was able to use it for 2 months before getting an 08. but i still love this car. its a sweet joy to drive.
If you like the TL to TSX styles and want to buy one with style, go for the TSX, if you like both performance and a little less style, tough looks, go for the TL.
I actually bought TL and loved it. But I am just curious, i thought TL and TSX are almost same ext and Int vise. Just a little minor difference. Isnt that true.
yes they are one and them same, the only differences is that the TL has a bigger and faster engine producing 280 HP compared to the TSX at 205 HP. and i personally love the TSX taillights better than the TL. thats the only major differences between the two. other than that they are pretty much equal because they both have the Honda Accord body(In Japan)
God, I love my '06 TSX!
