  • Very helpful man!

  • @MrMauro97 That's great! Thanks!

  • nice :)

  • @lumyingluo Thanks!

  • The sound and the video seem a little bit off. Are you saying that you drop your leg and heel on the downbeat or play with your heel down and push upward on the downbeat. Slightly confused. Also how long did it take to coordinate this? It's taking a toll on me. Also...shoes or no shoes....does it affect you?

  • Just to understand this better, when you say heel, you are actually using your entire leg to push down that first hit, and not your actual heel.. And at faster tempos were you swiveling your foot at all or was it just the same technique with just a smaller, quicker motion?? Thank you very much for the video, very helpful..

  • @elrojomuerto6x Correct! I meant heel because if you practice the movement at a slow speed, the heel touches the floor but at faster tempos the movement shortens so you just work with the rebound from the drumhead. Thanks!

  • @1982Rafael Yes i figured as much.. Thank you very much.. This technique will be good for me to learn, someone stole my connecting rod and slave pedal at my last show and i cant afford a new one.. so i have to start being able to play single rolld with one foot.. And i hope this technique will do that for me..

Thank you very much for the video and your timely response to my question..

  • @elrojomuerto6x You're welcome, I'll make a new video later this month about bass drum technique, with better video, audio and technique demonstrations.

  • @elrojomuerto6x muito obrigado pela sua resposta velhio.. Muito obrigado novamente..

    Deus te abençoe

  • @elrojomuerto6x De nada! Abraço

  • Gracias !

    Thanks so much

  • Very good stuff...I¨m aware that mastery of any kind of technique take some time, but i have few questions as absolute beginner in that technique 1. i have to practice without the drum first to get the motion... do you recommend to practice paralel with the real pedal???

    2. i know that everyone is different,...but what amount of time on daily basis do you suggest for practicing this ??? circa what time would be sufficient???

  • Thank you!

    1. The first exercise is great to get the motion and to warm up the feet. I'm trying to incorporate it to the double bass pedal so I still do it when I'm not playing the drums, I recommend it.

    2. I used to practice this technique for 20-30 minutes/day. It took me about a year to get some speed and precision/control.

  • talon, puntaa xD

  • pedal has nothing to do with speed. your technique and how much you practice will build speed. learning how to do doubles and things take time. you can do all of these techniques to ATLEAST 160-200 bpm with a cheap 100 dollar pedal. dont let people tell you that buying a 400 dollar pedal will make you fast, because it wont. time makes you fast, hours and hours of practice with a metronome. and key is to start slow and make it perfect

  • get an axis longboard and you can raise your speed from 125 to 150bpm with that technique. This is the superior form for speed, now you need a real pedal of quality.

  • I'm very curious about the Axis pedals but I can't find them anywhere here in Brazil...

What about the new Pearl Eliminators? Are those good pedals?

  • Oh, Ok, that's too bad. Axis is really is the best but there are some that come close. I've seen the new pearl demon drive pedal in a store and it looks like a very high quality pedal. I think the most important thing is that you get a pedal with a long board extension. The new pearl has that. You'll find the long boards really give you a lot more speed and control with the technique your using. Check out my video beating the 5 minute world record and you'll see what I mean.

  • That's a great video man! Nice pedal control and speed!

I'm practicing this rocking motion technique with my left foot now. My left foot is too slow.

Have you watched Giovanni Hidalgo playing the congas? He use a similar technique for the hands, very cool and fast.

I'll look for a longboard pedal now. I think the Demon Drive pedals are insanely overpriced. At least they are overpriced here (1500 USD!).

  • Yeah, I've seen some of that conga work. I've tried to learn that palm/finger technique but gave up on it. Man that's a shame that pedals costs so much. Here's what you should do: Look on ebay for someone selling an axis longboard who will ship it to you from USA. You may pay a lot for shipping but it's cheaper on ebay anyway.

  • Look for the B.O.A. From Pacific.

  • waltz!!!

  • Hey question for 1982Rafael. What do you recommend for a practice regime to ensure proper technique and development in speed? Also how long did it take you to develop decent speed? And lastly do you always keep a part of your foot to the pedal board or does it bounce on and off when you get fast?

Thanks for your Vid, excellent work!

  • GREAT!!!!! THANK YOU!

This foot technique also demonstrate Jojo Mayer!

  • hahah. for a second im like,, this person dumb,.,. u can go just as fast with normal taps,.,. but then u hit that really fast combo with yur foot,,.

impressive! u shut me up! haha

  • Your vids are more educational than any others on youtube. Great call-outs and I appreciate your use of high contrast props (white shoes) so we can see what's going on. I also appreciate the demonstration of just the foot motion without the pedal. My only complaint is that you also mix in the use of the double pedal so it confuses me. I wish I had you as a drum teacher though, I like your style!

  • the heel-toe method

  • I know this technigue, just dont use because i have double bass pedal.

  • I agree. Too many new drummers start right out on a double pedal, before they've even developed power, speed or control in either individual foot.

  • That actually was a big help with using the foot petal. Thanks for the video.

  • Good stuff, Rafael! It's all about developing sound basics for strong technique. 5 stars
