I would certainly prefer a Star Trek/Dr. Who cross-over than a Star Trek/Star Wars cross-over... primarily because Dr. Who and Star Trek were had the similar theme of exploring the unknown rather than dealing with the 'light/dark' dichotomy.
Oh, my, I just had an idea. Stand-off between Q and the Doctor (as played by David Tennant). Talk about an epic battle! Which one could talk the other's ear off first? Who would capitulate? Or would they both keep yapping until the end of time?
I think it was about a year ago when Patrick Stewart and David Tennant appeared together in Hamlet with the Royal Shakespeare company. I think the BBC released it on DVD. Anyway, they are both known for their 'real' acting - although I can't imagine The Bard had Dr Who and the captain of the Starship Enterprise in mind when he penned his creations.
That. Was. Amazing. I'd pay real money to see Eleven or Ten (or both) land on the bridge of the Enterprise-D. Just to see the look on everyone's face. Presuming they dematerialize on Wesley. ;D
I LOVE your clip! My both most famous series in one! Like a big surprise-egg!
It's so well done, and even if some people here are discussing "Who's better - or Star Trek" (got it? ^^), my opinion is: Wonderful! AND you didn't even forget Ro Laren and Guinan - Thank you! :)
If the Enterprise was foolish enough to attack the TARDIS, first I doubt that they'd be able to damage the TARDIS, but even if they managed to, the TARDIS would materialize on the Enterprise, and I can say for certain that the crew would not be able to get into it, not even if they had the might of the Klingon Empire behind them. The Doctor would proceed to shut down all non-essential systems (read: Military) on the Enterprise and go on his way.
@SirBroadsword well said. Even though I still think that Doctor Who is better. Star Trek has the better moral lessons but DW is over all more entertaining.
i found something very intresting about this on the internet they say that screen writers and tv writers prefer doctor who over star trek while computer geeks such as bill gates prefer star trek over doctor who. so there you have it creative minded people watch doctor who while people who have cold analytical sort of minds watch star trek. i loooooooooooooove doctor who.
Well, to be honest, I can't say I've seen enough of Doctor Who to either agree or disagree with that statement (though as a general statement I would disagree with it)...
As for "cold and analytical", what makes computer geeks so? And for that matter, what makes them any less creative than screen writers? All of the great video game franchises have been kicked of by computer nerds after all...
well first off, making a computer game is one thing and writing a story is another. the reason that computer geeks love star trek is that the show explains things in analytical terms everything is dissected and sterilized making things in the universe easily explained in human terms while in doctor who there is a sense of wonder and mystery towards things in the universe some things are explained in scientific terms but it leaves most questions open for the viewer.
"well first off, making a computer game is one thing and writing a story is another."
How? They're both creative art forms... I could just as easily saying "carving a scupture is one thing and writing a story is another" and would mean equally little...
I will agree that the "everything is explainable" ethos of the Federation (not so much Star Trek in general, which examines many hard moral and philisophical questions) isn't everybody's cup of tea...
yes they are both creative forms but, they are not the same in terms genere thats what im trying to say. star trek is too militant for my taste alien species they dont understand they either blow it up or convert it to the confines of narrowminded human thinking. now doctor who is unique in that it lets the alien species remain alien no converting or blowing it up but, rather understanding its behaviour or motivation.
"star trek is too militant for my taste alien species they dont understand they either blow it up or convert it to the confines of narrowminded human thinking."
Err... are we even talking about the same show here? I ask you, how many times have the crew tried (both sucessfully and unsucessfully) to contact strange alien life, or at least avoid harming it if possible? Do you not recall the Ent-D giving that space alien a C-section with its phasers after accidentally killing it?
...and then managing not to kill the baby even when it put the ship in danger? What about when they nearly managed to establish contact with the crystaline entity, a deadly beast that was savaging their colony planets and killing thousands of colonists, only not succeding because one rouge scientist refused to co-operate and destroyed in an act of vegence? What about when McCoy plastered up that tunneling blob creature (after Spock had mind-melded with it) that was killing the miners?
What about when Janeway made and alliance with fucking Borg!? What about when Janeway managed to call a truce with Species 8472? What about when they were able to negotiate with the Hirogen, giving them holo-technology so they wouldn't have to keep hunting real prey, only to be forced to make more hard choices (besides firing torpedoes) when they were made to face the consequences of that decision later?
The list is absolutely endless... For the Federation, military action is an absolute last resort... As I said, are we even talking about the same show here?
listen, what is the goal of the federation? to make alien races be more like the humans who are controling and manipulating them, talk about the borg the federation is just as bad as they are. this show is a mirror reflection of american values, assimilation, domination, and secularzation. and by the way i saw that episode and they did not accidently shoot that space alien.
"and by the way i saw that episode and they did not accidently shoot that space alien."
I said that they accidentally KILLED it not they accidentally SHOT it. The Enterprise fired a low powered phaser blast in response to creature attacking them, in an attempt to get the creature to back down. Naturally, when this resulted in the creature's death, they felt honour-bound to rescue the creautre's child and did so without harming it, even after it itself became a threat to the ship.
Not to mention that they exhausted every possible option they could think of to free themselves from the mother creature's energy dampening field before they resorted to opening fire...
"listen, what is the goal of the federation? to make alien races be more like the humans who are controling and manipulating them"
Bullshit... Just bullshit... First of all, you still have yet to provide any valid examples of this from Star Trek and secondly, the 150 or so non-human Federation members all joined the Federation of their own free will... The Federation will often invite a civilization to join them, but the species is by no means obligated to do so...
Not to mention that the Federationn was jointly founded by humans, Vulcans, Tellerites and Andorians... Also, if you must compare the Federation to the United States, it has more in common with the United States of the early 1800s, where the states had a great deal of autonomy in how they ran things within their state... This is true in the Federation too, where, "Member worlds were left to manage their own governance in accordance with their own traditions and local laws" (source: Memory Alpha)
i said that they didnt accidently kill or shoot that poor alien they killed it because they were too thick to find some other way to find a way to get its food source elsewhere in doctor who the doctor would have used his intelligence to find the proper food source without killing that poor alien.
Didn't I already say that they didn't mean to kill it? Also, you're getting your wires crossed. The mother alien (the one that trapped the ship) wouldn't have needed the Enterprise's help to find a good source, it merely either saw the ship as a lunch-bucket of oppertunity or else saw it as a threat (maybe both)... Either way, it trapped the ship, they tried to find a non-vilent way out and, failing that, fired phasers on minimum power, which was (unfortuneately) still enough to kill the creatue
Once they freed the baby creature and it began suckling the ship's power, however, they then needed to find a food source for the baby and fast... Once they did, they were then (given that they'd had more time to examine the situation and find a solultion) able to shake the baby off by altering the ship's energy so as to make it unpalitable... This doesn't harm the child and it is then welcomed by its fellow creatures into their natural habitat...
Their original intention had been to establish peaceful contact with the mother creature (that was before they knew it was pregnant, by the way). On that occasion, it just didn't turn out that way
"the doctor would have used his intelligence to find the proper food source without killing that poor alien."
Which, as I said, is exactly what the crew then did with the baby alien. They couldn't do it with the mother alien because there wasn't enough time and they were forced to save themselves
so they put their self preservation over that of a unique alien species which was minding its own buissness till they blundered in. this is why i dont like star trek the military intiative yet again. yes they saved the child but, hey its mother is dead due to human incompedence.
It was a tradgedy, granted, but I'm not going to get into an arguement with you over whether Picard should have allowed his ship to be destroyed or not, because that's just stupid... The point is that their intentions are generally pure and they have made friends with (or at least assisted) numerous strange alien life forms, rendering your arguement that militantly go around putting to the phaser all who disagree with them a crock of shit...
listen why didnt they just make their energy unpalitable to the mother alien in the first place? and the aliens that they do encounter they try to subject them to human values as you know the vulcans would whole heartdly concur with. as for the military thing why go in search of alien life armed with phasers and battleships? doctor who travels time and space without any weapons because he possess the greatest weapon of all knowledge.
"listen why didnt they just make their energy unpalitable to the mother alien in the first place?"
Because it isn't easy to figure something like that out when you're at red alert, about to be destroyed and have to make a split-second decision. They only thought of it after the baby had been suckling for a while.
"why do they go in search of alien life armed with phasers and battleships?"
For protection from races like the Klingons, duh. The Federation never fires first in a conflict
...Oh and that's another agressive race they managed to make peace with... :)
"doctor who travels time and space without any weapons because he possess the greatest weapon of all knowledge."
Well you'll have to forgive the average Starfleet captain for not being a centuries-old time traveling marty-stu...
Look, Starfleet is two things, an exploratory organisation and a defensive military... Sometimes, the latter aspect in necessary for the Federation's survival...
This was a pretty cool video...I was equally as impressed with the extended remix of the Doctor Who theme...is that something you mixed yourself or found somewhere online?

What you learn from both Series
Star Trek:
Join the Army
Follow Order's.
Communism works.
Make sure the guy driving the ship is Gay.
Have sex with every Alien you can!
Always follow the rules.
When in doubt Phaser it!
BoyMixer 2 years ago
Doctor Who:
Authority is bad,
Think for yourself,
Eat jelly babies,
Always travel with a hottie.
Who needs a gun when you have a sonic screwdriver!
Always listen to the tin dog
Never take yourself too seriously, even if you're 940 years old!
BoyMixer 2 years ago
BoyMixer:
What you actually learn from Star Trek:
Humanity has the potential to become more than it currently is.
A peaceful, united humanity where everyone's basic needs are satisfied is possible.
There is often a better way to resolve a problem than through violence.
No one is beyond redemption. Even the most hostile of enemies can be reasoned with
The rules exist for a reason, but sometimes it may be necessary to go against them as they cannot cover every possible situation.
SirBroadsword 2 years ago 3
Wow, you put WAY too much thought into that. leave it to a Trekkie to get all A.R. about a joke.
