but the competitions is about who swims faster not who has the best suit that makes you go faster than others without you having any actually good skill
I say it's all or nothing, either have them swim naked or let them use any suit they want which is direction-neutral (i.e. Doesn't favour movement in a certain direction) and doesn't have a propulsion system.
The motive behind banning the suit was that it enabled swimmers to go faster than a human can possibly go. The problem with this reasoning is that almost any swim suit does that.
@Soymilllk it's banned from competition usage. you can buy one and wear it and go swimming, it's not illegal in the true sense of the word. i'm kind of trolling, so nvmd, i know what you mean
i think the spirit of the olympics is that anyone in the world can compete. This is why running and swimming are olympic sports. As such I think it's unfair when athletes from richer countries get high tech suits and others can't. Therefore they should make people swim naked.
it doesn't take an hour to get on.. only like15 minutes

yea, my guess is that they have been sued and has been demanded to pay a refund for all the suits brands like Blue seventy and jaked can't sell.. And that would be why they just approve any suits atm ;)
One time I talked to a lady who said Micheal Phelps didn't deserve his 8 medals because he wore a LZR which gave him an unfair advantage. Thats the dumbest thing I have ever heard. If everyone is wearing a LZR then how is he getting an unfair advantage?
what is recommened to buy?The LZR RACER JAMMER or the TYR TRACER LIGHT full body? out of those 2.which would be technically better in the water? My doubt is because a jammer is too short to do the real effects SPEEDO made for the full body in my opinion, or am I wrong? Can the jammer be beter thn the FULL Tyr Tracer Light? Ive heard the LZR full lasts about 10 swims, does the jammer last longer? What about the TYR, even if not better, can it last many more swims?
With that logic, you could argue that for the last 100 years, since running shoes have been more developed, all track records should also have an asterisk. All weightlifters broke the records "unnaturally" by using nutritional supplements, etc.

Another reason we should do away with the bodysuits. A swimsuit is supposed to be something that you throw on and get into the water. I loved the FS-2 recordbreaker that Amanda Beard and a number of female athletes wore in 2004.

A swimsuit is supposed to be a costume not an aid. There is a reason flippers are not allowed. Bodysuits need to be banned altogether; they are overpriced and ugly. Lets return to the sexy legless swimsuits.
the lzr racer was not designed to increase buoyancy; if you want a odyskin that increases buoyancy, the blueseventy is for you... in fact, many athletes at US trials wore a LZR over a blueseventy to combine the compression of the lzr and the buoyancy of the blueseventy, i.e. gil stovall
FINA's rule states: 'no swimmer shall be permitted to use or wear any device that may aid his speed, buoyancy or endurance during a competition'. The suit is no longer a costume, it is a device. It should be banned after every single record is broken during the Olympics.
i dont see what the big deal is. did anyone watch the trials? almost EVERY swimmer had this suit. there is no advantage if everyone is wearing it. i dont feel this really takes away from the competition, it only puts the world records in jeprody.
Look people, you're using faulty logic. Just because no one cried out "foul play" when the fast skin came out doesn't negate the current problem. Where does technology interfere with competition and create an unfair situation?
I mean, in cycling the rules forbid carbon fiber bikes that weigh less than 15 pounds or something, in order to prevent technology getting an edge in competition. It's great that Speedo is working w/ NASA, but there should be limits to technological doping.
I do not think this suit make us lose our time making records and stuff like that, our confidence is ... We can make you feel less light weight but a swimmer is not born is done and those who can buy woow congratulations because in order to find this suit must get xD ... I separate mine ... and I come from venezuela imagine what expensive than east coast outfit ... but a swimmer was not born this becomes who agree with me?
the majority of the swimmers who are wearing this $600 suit didn't actually have to buy it...they either tested it for speedo (like a girl on my team) and got to keep it, or they are good enough to be sponsored...
It is available to all swimmers, it is just really expensive ($500). People say that this is not fair because some swimmers will not be able to afford it. However, no one complained about the previous speedo suits, such as the FS Pro, which still goes for over $200. Certainly if people can't afford the $500 suit there are others who won't be able to buy the $200 one. At what point do you draw the line? Saying the LZR is unfair means that you think the FS I, FS II, FS Pro are ALL unfair.
How can anyone say this suit is unfair? Where, then, do we draw the line? Fastskin Pro? FSII? FS? How are all those fair and then suddenly the LZR is unfair. Think about what you are saying.
I wore the hi-neck backstroke one in Texas for my 200 back. I dropped a second: 2:21. I was sick and hadn't swum in 5 days! I'm getting that suit. It really is amazing- you couldn't understand unless you've tried it.
Is it important to wear your dick straight up--as opposed to wearing it to the left side,as I do?? I dont like having my dick pointing straight up. I like it tucked away!
look, popov had the world record for pretty long time i think, now bam! 2 guys broke his record with the suit! if u didn't know, the suit also lets you float! it compress your body for less drag. if its not the suit, prove it! swim with a speedo. and yeah actually the LZR is not even for sale. and it cost arround 600 bucks, damn pretty much money to spend tough
its not just because it's extremely hydro dynamic. it also makes the swimmer feel faster, so if they think they're faster then usually they go a bit faster than if they feel slow. anyways they paid for the suit. nobody made a huge deal about the fastskin. why is this any different? what's wrong with hardworking swimmers breaking records?
I don't think the placebo effect of a new suit is enough to break 38 world records. Swimmers still have to work incredibly hard, but the problem is that since not /everybody/ has the suit, it's unfair for those who cannot get a custom suit in time for Beijing 08.
who cares! it's there suit. they bought it. nobody made a huge deal when the fast skin came out. just because it has a lot less resistance doesn't mean that a slow swimmer can all of a sudden be fast just by wearing this suit. it's mostly just because they feel faster, so they feel more confident and positive. do you really think a suit can make that much of a difference? the most is like a few hundredths of a second.
While in some cases you are correct, the LZR Racer was developed to reduce drag in the most important of places. With these "sweet spots" being analized and fixed, swimmers have seen DRASTIC improvments in their times, not just being the fact that they are more motivated. You do make a good point though, by saying the feel confident, I know I do whenever I put on my leg suit (which is a Fastskin II)!
Nice innovation. But the scientists should be getting all of the medals that those swimmers will be winning this year. Speedo racers will unarguably have an advantage this year that has nothing to do with the swimmers skill. Their win will be one of compromised integrity. If I was those swimmers I'd suggest to the IOC that all competitors get the same suit.
That could be done if it was a requirement to be a amatuer, but since the have allowed professional athletes, the contractual agreement get in the way.
Huh? Fastest suit? Well for sure the fastest SELLING suit in the world... Never forget the pychologie factor. Future will revail if it can prove what it says.
Its rare that the sports science is developing REALY now gadegeds. I only know the "superbikes" for long range cycling. They broke every world record in indoor cycling. Later the bikes were been forbitten and the records anulated.
they said it might get banned from the olympics because of the high number of world records being broken by the people that already have them and so far the only people that have them are ppl sponsered by speedo so thats about america france and australia
I miss bodysuits in swimming :(

lazyboy169 3 years ago
I wore the hi-neck backstroke one in Texas for my 200 back. I dropped a second: 2:21. I was sick and hadn't swum in 5 days! I'm getting that suit. It really is amazing- you couldn't understand unless you've tried it.

Is it important to wear your dick straight up--as opposed to wearing it to the left side,as I do?? I dont like having my dick pointing straight up. I like it tucked away!
BlackJackLanza 3 years ago 3
I like the lzr racer, but the swimsuit alone doesn't swim...
my friend has got one in manchester and now he swam 3 new records for luxembourg:
200free: 2.51.??
100free:50.60
and 100 medley
(he's 16)
feckmej 3 years ago
how is 2.51 a record?!
spatan117iohgds 3 years ago
dude, like i go a ... a lot faster then that so 2:51? please be a typo.

i think it's unfair when u lose against a guy who wears the new speedo swimsuit, and u don't
nissansxz 3 years ago 5
how is it unfair? It took them like 4 years to create....it's perfectly fair. They just thought outside the box unlike other suit makers
swimmergirlbbff 3 years ago
look, popov had the world record for pretty long time i think, now bam! 2 guys broke his record with the suit! if u didn't know, the suit also lets you float! it compress your body for less drag. if its not the suit, prove it! swim with a speedo. and yeah actually the LZR is not even for sale. and it cost arround 600 bucks, damn pretty much money to spend tough
nissansxz 3 years ago
You can buy one, too.
iamvegito 3 years ago
how is it unfair? maybe the person who wore a lzr just trained harder. it's not just the suit.
iluvjonas3 3 years ago
There have been an unprecidented number of world record breaks wearing this suit. There's no question it's the suit that's giving them the edge.
cowbellthunder 3 years ago
its not just because it's extremely hydro dynamic. it also makes the swimmer feel faster, so if they think they're faster then usually they go a bit faster than if they feel slow. anyways they paid for the suit. nobody made a huge deal about the fastskin. why is this any different? what's wrong with hardworking swimmers breaking records?
iluvjonas3 3 years ago
I don't think the placebo effect of a new suit is enough to break 38 world records. Swimmers still have to work incredibly hard, but the problem is that since not /everybody/ has the suit, it's unfair for those who cannot get a custom suit in time for Beijing 08.
cowbellthunder 3 years ago
who cares! it's there suit. they bought it. nobody made a huge deal when the fast skin came out. just because it has a lot less resistance doesn't mean that a slow swimmer can all of a sudden be fast just by wearing this suit. it's mostly just because they feel faster, so they feel more confident and positive. do you really think a suit can make that much of a difference? the most is like a few hundredths of a second.
iluvjonas3 3 years ago
... a few hundredths of a second... enough for break a world record....
jcaroal1 3 years ago 2
While in some cases you are correct, the LZR Racer was developed to reduce drag in the most important of places. With these "sweet spots" being analized and fixed, swimmers have seen DRASTIC improvments in their times, not just being the fact that they are more motivated. You do make a good point though, by saying the feel confident, I know I do whenever I put on my leg suit (which is a Fastskin II)!

Marketing hype!
vorkutaman 3 years ago
Nice innovation. But the scientists should be getting all of the medals that those swimmers will be winning this year. Speedo racers will unarguably have an advantage this year that has nothing to do with the swimmers skill. Their win will be one of compromised integrity. If I was those swimmers I'd suggest to the IOC that all competitors get the same suit.
kozdamar 3 years ago
That could be done if it was a requirement to be a amatuer, but since the have allowed professional athletes, the contractual agreement get in the way.
kindsoul420247 3 years ago
Who are each of the swimmers featured, in order? Sorry, I don't keep up enough to know.
blee 3 years ago
micheal phelps, natalie coughlin[sp?], grant hackett, and a few others.
PAOliTAfAhShO 3 years ago
yes we just have a new 100 freestyle record ( 47:50) by bernard in enidoven
jacksparrowlol 3 years ago
PriusRider 3 years ago
That is amazing! What I wouldn't give to have one of those suits at a state competition.
dfai7964 3 years ago
they said it might get banned from the olympics because of the high number of world records being broken by the people that already have them and so far the only people that have them are ppl sponsered by speedo so thats about america france and australia
blacknizzle 3 years ago
no it's not, they said it's not...
