@Ibonneau Yes, you are exactly right, you do need a tiny hole in the top of the bottle to let air in, otherwise the oil will not flow very far.
As a sidenote, I've stopped using this system since I decided it really isn't robust enough for every day use. But it was a fun proof-of-concept project.
I am considering the scottoiler esystem for my R6. Although these type of lubrication systems has its draw backs in that if it is incorrectly fitted or set up then oil may end up on the tyre, causing it to slip out from under the bike when cornering. I know of someone who had a commercial system fitted and crashed his bike - resulting in removal of spleen and several months in hospital. So maybe it is better left to the experts rather than a home made version but good on you for trying.
yeah, I've been working like crazy lately and we've had about a week and a half of consistent rain. I'll do a video in the next few days, though. I just need a topic.
connect a hose to a suitable bottle that holds the oil, then connect a valve that you will use to start or stop the flow completely, then connect that to a valve that you use to control how quickly the oil flows through the hose (adjust for the proper flow then don't touch it), then position the tip to drip the oil on the chain (2 or 3 drops per minute).
I would go with either the loobman or the scottoiler. Check ebay, you might be able to score a used one if you're a cheap bastard as well as a lazy one.
Thats an awesome idea, if you could get it into a working product and not just a tube on an empty bottle, something a little more professional, you could proply sell that in stores!
Awesome idea!
Though, if that bottle or tube break some how, all that oil is going all over the rear like billmaa said!
I don't think it's really that practical to sell. I really just did it for the fun of a DIY project. For a little more money you could buy a Loobman system which has basically the same functionality.
Brent, It think its cool display of ingenuity and cleverness...but if something happens and that bottle ruptures, you're dumping all that oil on your rear tire and well...just food for thought..
Yeah, that thought definitely crossed my mind, but it's tucked up between the wheel cover and the seat and only the bottom half inch is exposed from the side, so it's extremely unlikely that it would get hit from debris. But maybe I will rig up some sort of shield just for peace of mind.
Not very long at all. The hardest part besides finding the parts at the HW store was drilling the bottle cap just right so that it didn't leak. Then it was just a matter of figuring out how I was going to mount and route everything, then cut the tubing to fit and zip tie everything in place.
one my chain oil stands "last for atleast 30minutes till ride"... how can this oil stay on the chain and doesn't just fly away?

Nice invention.

I oil once every 1000K'ms, you should be cleaning your chain with kerosene and reapply oil, this is just going to let the chain collect dirt.
The invention is great, but it still has to be cleaned.
Does it fling everywhere while you are riding?

Hey - brentm099
nice job on the oiler - just one Q...
do you need a hole on the top of the oil bottle - to let air in ?
I've tried making something like that but the oil doesn't come out - I think due to low pressure forming in the bottle.

I've been looking into commercial versions of these, as I'm one lazy bastard and my chain already has surface rust.

That's pretty sweet, Keep us posted on how it goes. That'd be a great thing for long distance trips.

That's what spurred me into doing it. I put about 2k miles on the bike over the past couple weeks and got sick of the chain maintenance.

Awesome project. That is very creative of you.

Pretty inventive device,Brent.
How long did it take you to rig the whole thing up?
