If you get cancer in australia or heart disease or any other cronic illness that most people get (more than likely including you as well) during their life then you get treatment for free in a public or private hospital. We also have a pbs pharmaceutical benefits scheme for medication basically once you have spent a thousand dollars on drugs in any one year its then paid for by the health system.

Well as you see my name, I am a Republican. I have a simple solution to the heathcare issue. Buy your own insurace if the company you work for does not offer it. If you don't have a job, then you don't get it! Simple as that. Maybe it will open some of these deadbeats eyes and get them off their butt and quit milking the system for every dime!! Welfare will be offered for 3 months a year. Exceptions will be made for people going to school to better themselves. The Elderly will be taken care of.

There is nothing wrong with ACCESS to health care! All who are in need, have it. The only problem is who pays for it. Insurance is also available for all - the issue is who pays how much for it. Insurance is nothing more than a gamble on whether your medical needs/costs are going to be higher than your premiums & co-pays. Insurance companies hedge their "bets" on what they charge & the # of healthy people they cover. I could go into the medical community's part in this but running out of space..

Not since Congress passed a law stating you can't exclude pre-existing conditions (for the insured) which meant they just stopped insuring sick people. And there is the issue of paying for the uninsured, which we do anyway. You think you aren't paying? Come on. The average cost of an American Emergency Room is about 1500 dollars an hour BECAUSE of the uninsured. We pay one way or the other. But Obama's plan will make it worse.
