Simon, are you using the clay that we got from Trent? It looks like it is. I was making some of the double bowls the other day. The first bowl came out OK, I set the gauge and I had a hard time making the second one match. The bottom of the bowl would blow out or pulling up it would get off center. So I've come to the conclusion that I have to KKKEEEEEEEPPPP PRACTICING.... How was your trip to Peters pottery a few weeks ago???
i like the angle and being this close to the camera you are coming through quite clearly as well as all the little sounds that come with throwing on a man powered wheel the bearings and actual act of throwing, very zin video good stuff. The angle also helps get a better idea of how you go about throwing
@rulahannasal the clay is recycled and is nice and plastic so minimum water is required, even if a bit "slippy" which helps. Clays to recommend ? if I had more experience of clays here in the US I would tell you but as I do not, I cannot do that ....anyone else out there know !?
@rulahannasal the quality of the clay and what your looking for really depends on where you live and how much you want to pay. for a lower cost clay many clay distributor formulate their own for a cheaper price. some times just as good as big name manufacturers. for the more well known companies such as Standard. IMCO, Highwater, and Laguna. you may have to pay more because of cost of shipping especially if you dont have a local supplier whom could place and order for you or have some in stock.
i come from bethlehem palestine, i'm not sure about the clay we have now but it's coming from spain and germany, if i checked which company can you suggest a code of a good clay?
@cnfinnegan45 if ur rim explodes its because you trapped air inside. make sure you roll correctly. i would tell you if i could but its more of a showing kind of thing sorry :( i tried to think of a way to explain it but im at a lack for words
Excellent Video Simon! Love the different camera angles and especially the last one. I am one who is a little frightened of running into the gauge, lol. Do you mind saying how much clay you used and what the measurements were of the bowls? I'd appreciate it so much. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge with us out here.
@muditsallabout The bowls are 1lb and 6 1/4 " in diameter, height I don't fuss with as if the proportion is right and they are well thrown, all is good. Use a gauge and practice. SL
??? what GP stands for in "GP bowl" ???

@sleachpots
thanks for the answer
it seems to work nice and smooth with little water
do you know any manufactured clay that you would suggest that has similar characteristics
