  • this is a case of a great artist being produced in one of the WORST instruction books that i have ever seen ... the lessons are fragmented and incomplete ..in fact this UTUBE video is the best part of the whole video ... MelBay puts out some good material - this definitely NOT one of them ... save your money ... I wish I had

  • Been a dancer or a technical appreciate.

    yup.

  • I really like this kind of music, its from people that play instruments that come from the heart. And have true character and real life experiences.

  • I agree with oopsayoh about fydlen1's comment below. S/he apparantly prefers Cajun to Creole fiddle style and knows little about Creole/Black fiddle music played on this teaching video by one of its masters. D'Jalma has played both styles of fiddle, Cajun/Creole, professionally for decades. Me, I like both styles if the player has soul. Mr. Garnier is a patient kind man who makes the difficult easy to grasp and it shows in this BookDVD combo.

  • Nice joyful song !

  • Great instructive video.

As any good musician knows just because one is a professional doesn't mean they are good.

  • canray fontenot was great!th creoles influenced dennis mcgee!

  • The embarrassment is fydlen1's uninformed "opinion". I am not sure exactly what s/he is getting at. This is pretty typical Creole being played by one of the masters of Creole fiddle. I know - I was his student several years ago. Fine, if you don't like it, but it is not an "embarrassment". Yikes. Now, this is a teaching video, true - it isn't what you would hear him (or any other Creole fiddler) play in performance. This is for the likes of me to s-l-o-w-l-y figure out!

  • This just inspired me to pick my violin back up. :)

  • I'm a professional Cajun fiddler and have been playing for over 30 years. I want people to know there is a definite difference between Creole and Cajun. This demo was somewhat of an embarrassment. There are some great fiddling style that have come out of Louisiana and in my opinion this isn't one of them. Remember this is only my opinion. Keep it real and keep it fiddle!
