Battlemap lacks an expoet feature, but it is much more more intuitive than carthographer. I thought that carthographer was a bit clumsy to use since you have to constantly go throught menues to grab the pieces (and then rotate/scale them). While you can simply draw the maps with your fingers with battlemap. Overall neight of them are that great, both lack features that he other has so its a matter of taste. I like battle maps better but its not worth the 20 exra dollars.
There are more and more apps out there for mapmaking. Cartographer definitely has the largest and most graphically stunning selection of tokens and tiles, but there are some specific features, like field of vision, that aren't available in the current version.
