An excellent example of Russian practicality, as Frontal Aviation had more threat types than just the Grumman F-14 to sweat when the S-271 program started at Ramenskoye. Like the USAF/McDonnellDouglas F-15A/C, the Su-27F/BF was equipped with decent gear for ground attack, in addition to an excellent cannon and a range of A/A missiles for bomber interception and dogfighting.

SU27 is absolutely superior to ANY western aircraft there is except F22 which is a direct answer to it. Yet still F22 is all talk without real tests. SU27 has proven itself plenty of times.

f22 is not an answer to it.. SU27 was the answer to F15. Its old itself - still a beautiful aircraft. Su-35 is the competitor for the modern jets like SuperHornet & Co, a really superior one btw.

The answer to F22 will be the russian PAK-FA (whatever name it gets later), but it has just started test flying a few month ago. It will cost a lot less then f22 however

@Maverickx89 The F-22 was around long before the treat of the PAK FA or J-20 ever hit the scene. Like 20 years later! the main purpose of the F-22 was to rival the Su-27's false claims which back then Russia claimed to have built the "T-10" Prototype which was suppose to have "FireFox capablities" meaning stealth, thrust vectoring and even a so called "Thought control system" and all these other science fictional claims.

@Karabas84 What? Russia has been trying to jump that stealth bandwagon for over 12 years now. They first tried with the Su-47. Then the Mig 1.44 which actually costed more than the YF-22 to develop mind you, now the PAK F/A which is likely gonna crash their budget again. But the same could be said about Russia flying Mig-29's because the Su-27 is way to costly and rarely used in combat. Thats why more countries choose the F-15 over the Su-27 because its difficult to find replacment parts.

Russia went bankrupt many light years ago while trying to keep pace in the arms race in the late 90's and they simply gave it a rest and now they are about 30 years late in developing a stealth fighter when the USA is currently developing a sixth generation aircraft. It will take russia another 20 years and countless dollars to catch and be on our level.

The F-35 and F-22 are to serve until 2040, and that's when you can expect your 6th gen fighter. @Russiasuperpower1 Didn't you say Russia will be the best in europe in your last post? I also have news for you F-22 is pretty much canceled. The F-35's production numbers are cut why? Because our F-15's and F-16's and F-18's are all being up graded so they will be in service beyond 2030. No need for Stealth fighters. The F-35 more than anything will be a direct replacement for the Harrier.

looks more similar to any other fighter from late 20th century and the f-18 included, it's because it is one of best shapes and configurations that is "stable" and can yet pull high G's and go fast, but ass for role, it's more like f-15 - long range deep striker, and is way more bigger than f-18
