Dear God, this takes me back. This was broadcast on a Saturday night, I deliberately had to sit through the dreadful Cannon and Ball rubbish to see BC. I remember I had lasagne for tea! Isn't it weird how music can put you in a particular place at a particular time.
Do say hello to Tony from me - as I have lost contact with him and Jackie (wife) Can you let him know that Diane Hatz (The Who - fan club) has contacted me from the USA and will be coming over to the UK this year - this will bring back so many wild memories for Tony !! Our mad old days in Ealing - and what on earth is Tony teaching - I hate to think !!!! xx
Pat enjoyed his time with the band - and knows Tony Butler from when they were kids at school - about 14years old when they were in The Simon Townshend Band (Pete Townshend's brother) they were making records back then. - So we've known Tony and Mark B for many years. Previous to Big Country - Pat was with Ultravox, and sessioned for Heaven 17, and many others in the 80's - great days !!
I remember Stuart introducing Pat as the best Drummer in Western Hemisphere at the Manchester International 2 on the Greatest Hits tour. I was a little sceptical (being a Brzezicki boy from childhood!) but I have to say, Pat was immense that night - and the floor went in as well - too much pogo in the audience :)
Karen...can you thank him for me; esp; 'splash for starlight'...he was totally amazing; he recognized us fans and gave his all [well, soo very nrly!!]...only difference between him and mark...ob. pat left handed; no difference in sound [to me anyway!]
Thank you so much for the nice comments - and yes he is left handed - well done you ! but typical pat, plays a right handed kit !! due to his dad being a very famous drummer, being right handed and his drum kit set out in the music room - pat picked up the sticks at 13 and taught himself - 1 year later recording with Simon Townshend at Pete's studio in Goring !! rock n roll at 14 !! best wishes, karen x
Karen...thanx soo much 4 the reply.....what's he doing now?
and sounding soo very stupid here; who's his dad?
Not that it matters in the least.....a very talented drummer in his own right; pleasure to have met him with BC ....and to see him perform with them....and to have him 'recognize' us as above; Stuart was 'advertised' to be at 'splash for starlight'; pat seemed to give his all; no-one was disappointed!
thank you, brillint song

No Mark Brzezicki on drums....this must have been during that period when he left the band.

Indeed, I don't think there's many interviews (if any at all) with Pat Ahern talking about his time with the band.
