Very cool. They have some very nice technology for these editors. Not only does it allow for almost infinite variety with very little work, but the file size of a creature, planet, etc. is extremely small.

This will probably not be in the final release, but a stylized version may be released in an expansion pack, or as DLC. For those who REALLY like the idea, since it's just a bunch of bump maps, and texture maps, you might be able to do it manually.

You can customise your planet using terraforming tools but this "planet editor" is for developers only

That planet editor demonstrated is clearly a developer tool and not something the gamer is ever going to get to play with, at the very least just compare it to the editors they're demonstrating (CC etc) and its nothing like it.

Well they aren't making each planet individually, they are generating planets through the systems and values they've set up, it's not that hard to imagine that they could generate 4 billion planets this way.

In-game, you cannot actually use this editor; this is just what Maxis are using to make the many planets you'll see in the game. You can, however, edit planets but to a lesser extent with your UFO's various tools.

While there isn't an "editor" for planets, your UFO does have tools to change the shape of the planet. So in a way there is an editor, just not a dedicated one.

if you look on one of the conferences of spore on another video you can see all the phases at the top and at the bottom you have all the editors you could read when he put the cursor over it there was a creature editor a floral editor and a ufo editor there was two more but he didn't put the mouse over them ,they're probably building editor and planet editor i think i missed one out also might be tide pool editor
