If you like scenery that looks like plastic, cheap repetition effects, and completely random shading, all that combined with cel-shaded sprites that don't mix well with the background at all, yup, these graphics are amazing.
I'll post this as a normal comment too. Dimps, yes, DIMPS, is making this game. This was confirmed ages ago, back before the entire game was leaked. They have nothing to do with Sonic Team, they're Dimps. Dimps created Sonic Rush and the Advance series. Both 2D series that were plagued with bottomless platforming. The Advance game physics were superb. Rush's were not. And now Sonic 4 has been plagued like Sonic Rush was. The physics aren't anything like they were in the golden years...
Shadz01 is correct, so everybody needs to calm down jumping the gun. You asked for change, and sonic team went back and reworked the entire game so you can have the best expeience possible. they even made it so that you don't have to use the homing attack ever, for all those whiny fan-boys who were so against it for some reason.
@reservoirdog666 You make it look like sonic team is doing us a favor lol...This is money coming out of everyones pocket. ST should do everything in their power to make this game what they said it would be. Yes even for the whiners and yes for even the fags who love all of the shitty games ST has to reach out to wider demographic and try to sell this game. There is no excuse for a sonic game to have physics like this but its not out yet so lets keep our eyes peeled.
@jerphunter You, my friend, need to shut up, now. Keep in mind that this game is still being made, you freaking idiot. Yes, they probably will change the physics, but you so called "fans" need to shut up until then. Geesh.
Also, you guys need to calm down about this. You're lucky SEGA even heard you and desided to make this. You can argue all you want, but it's very true.
@jerphunter Oh, go **** yourself. You know exactly what I mean. You don't HAVE to buy the game if you don't want to. But I'm just saying that you people really overreact about beta previews.
@StaticTaoroRias If the people did not "overreact" this game would have been released and would have bombed even with the game going back to the lab its still like this. So imagine if they released at the promised fall 2010 date... I WANT to buy the game but I want the best of my money I 'CANT' buy this game if its not the game I wanted,the game ST/Dimps said it would be. They however HAVE to make the game the best they can so it can SELL so they can make MORE. CAPS FOR EMPHASIS! :)
@jerphunter Well i'm sure the physics will be fixed by November, but they weren't even that bad earlier, apart from the obvious uphill/loop stuff we see here. it needed tweaking, but its one of many things ST have done. They also reworked the levels so the homing attack is optional, and redone all the gimmicky levels aswell. Basically they changed much of the game based on fanboys nitpicking. I'm surprised his eyes are even still green at this point.
@reservoirdog666 Yeah I'm hoping for the best this game looks amazing in HD but it cant only look good it has to play good too. I agree on the too much nitpicking part I like the homing attack but they kinda make it stupid when they just put a row of enemies doing nothing and you home on them over a gap...only problem i have is the physics and music. I know the physics will be ok but the music and I'm a huge jun fan too... >>;
@reservoirdog666 I have no idea where you heard that because Dimps is the only dev team on the project. Sonic Team just hired them to make the game. Like they did with the Advance and Rush series. I think there's one guy, the level designer from S3, helping with level design, but that's all. This is honestly I've heard of them working together on this, but I don't think they are. I could be wrong, but I know for fact that Dimps is the main dev team for the game.
That footage is from Gamescom, where they had the same demo that was at E3, Summer of Sonic and the Japan Expo. Nintendo Power recently got to play a new build in their preview, though they haven't mentioned anything about physics. At least we know there is a new demo being shown to press now, so hopefully we'll hear something about changes made. SEGA also said in their last update on their blogs about changes that they'll be talking about more changes on their blogs in September.
Amazing graphics?
