  • Dude, what's up with the tags on this vid? Sheesh.

  • @Kaitrece Those are from an OpenOffice user ;P

  • @Kaitrece He's a born marketer :P

  • Ouch 2007 with the ribbon, happy they later fixed that by offering you to go back to "classic" mode. Seriously!

  • Ive never tried OpenOffice but im really enjoying Libre Office which is also free and open platform. I hear its better than open office but cant agree without trying both and comparing.

  • @ravenknight915

They are the same, as in Libre office is a fork of Open Office. See Open Office owner, was changing into becoming less open source friendly one can say. This caused the open source community to fork out of Open Office into Libre Office.

A few months later think about Six, the owners of Open Office found out why people liked Open Office because it is.. open. Libre Office took off with the spirit of Open Office.

  • is that a samsung rv510 laptop? or similar???

  • @coolanu11 - It was an Acer Aspire 3680

  • open office is very good better in some ways than ms office

  • actually now that Oracle has bought Sun and messed up with openoffice, it's time for Libreoffice, a community-supported fork from Openoffice codebase

  • My school has Microsoft Office 2003 and think should not had gotten that because they could dowloaded OpenOffice on every single computer in the school free!!!

  • I agree I think you should not waste your money on microsoft office when get something for free that almost idenical to microsoft office I would recemoned to everyone to get OpenOffice and not waste your money on somthing is idenical to something for free. If you are planning to get Microsoft Office do not buy it get OpenOffice its free. OpenOffice looks idenical to microsoft office and as all the features that microsoft office has. The best thing about OpenOffice is its free!!!

  • bad sound, so i go find new vid, sry i need sound...

  • bad sund, so i go find new vid, sry i need sound...

  • Anyone that tries to make Open Office look as if its not legitimate or comparable, is full of microshit.

  • We're live 24 hours a day, seven days week at live.pirillo.com*****

  • I have not got a cracked version of Office.....I got it free from a multi-install pack from my IT friend :D

  • i think, from reading it's description, that the math app is for programming?

  • Who many monitors does this guy have?

  • @axcfds In this video. I had 3 monitors. This video is 2 years old though, and I now have 5.

  • @WindowsGuru84 how do you download openoffice???

  • @beautifulgooal Google is your friend :)

  • @WindowsGuru84 though microsoft office is better for school, i have openoffice too, but the formatting for powerpoints is different and my teacher couldn't read my powerpoint because my school had MSOffice

  • @WindowsGuru84 What do you do with all 5 of your monitors? I was thinking of getting dual, but 1. My graphics card won't support it, and 2. I don't have enough space... I got my PC recently for Christmas, and it's a very good PC, except for the graphics card... god damn Intel HD Graphics...

  • In North Korea food, housing, work and everything else is free!! Go to North Korea!!

Open Office is good for Grandmas that don't need to work and just want to write some piece of unimportant shit - like recepies. But in the business world there is no better solution to Microsoft Office 2010.

OO compares best to MS Office 97.

Go get a home and student or a home and business license - they are real cheap and stop bullshitting around with the 300euro versions!

  • I really like Open Office as it maintains the old Excel and Word commands. The new Word and Excel are too busy.

  • office pro £400

    open office free

it is very capable, TRY IT

    no brainer

  • I like open office! i hate the freaking "product code"

  • i use open office 3 and its easy and fast :)

  • Comparing peaches to bananas...

  • OpenOffice is awesome. I always use it and have no trouble.

  • I've used OpenOffice Draw.. and it was awful compared to MS Publisher and a mere speck of dust compared to InDesign. I've also worked with OO Writer, and yet again, I prefer MS Word. I rarely use Excel or Access (a nightmare, by the way -> Filemaker is way better) so i cant comment on these.

Plus, our company standard is MS Office 07+ and Adobe CS4+and there's nothing as annoying as a co-worker insisting to use free ware (OO, Gimp, etc), as there are huge compatibility issues.

  • @theAntilli Draw is for quick diagrams and that, Publisher is for those real big things.

  • i you are going to to a powerpoint open office SUCKS!!!

and after all i just like microsoft office most because of the look and all the great features.:)

  • @kasperk22

I don't agree too much on the sucking, but I fully agree on the features bit. I especially like the feature where you create your PPT presentation in M$ PPT version 3.4.5a and present it on an international conference with version 3.4.5b, and all your symbols and equations are messed up. It's much more hilarious than those people using Open Office where everything just works...

Of course, if you want stability rather than a good laugh, Micro$oft products suck...

  • @kasperk22 What do you normally save the files as when you use OpenOffice?

  • Math is a MathType replacement.

  • Only downsize that openoffice not always save on Microsoft file. It can save, but if you using spreadsheet program on openoffice and save it with graph on it. If you open in Microsoft office, Office will crash. They still need to fix.

  • also you can open ms office docements

  • I have Microsoft 2010, it's really the only thing I've used for years, So I'm worried about getting Linux and using OpenOffice, My peers use MS Office and it's just how information gets around, so yeah... that's one of my concerned.

  • @apbtblue1 why would that be a concern ? you can save in the exact same formats, the toolbars are all the same, and openoffice is free :\

  • @apbtblue1

No need to get Linux if you want to test Open Office... It's cross-platform software, and runs on Windoze as well. You can keep M$ Office and meanwhile test OO.

  • microsoft office 2004 or some thing was awesome

  • if you want the product key of microsoft ad you have a laptop turn the laptop over and on the buttom there should be a product key! mine has the product key and a lot of people have it too! so turn over your laptop and see if you have a product key too\!

  • I have 2010

  • the best find ever, no way in hell am i paying microsoft 279$ for a product key...

  • Unless you want to convert a bunch of documents from microsoft office with mail merges in, then openoffice is terrible. From a buisness perspective, if you already have a bunch of documents with mail merge's, macros or a bunch of access databases, openoffice's free price tage is far outwieghed by the manpower it takes to get everything converted.

  • fffff

  • Bengals Rock!

  • Its funny cos Microsoft r givin us the new microsoft Works for free with Windows 7. They never tell you this but the new Works software is basically the old Microsoft Office b4 the 2007 version came out. My Office 2007 trial runs out in a couple of days, & now i just discovered that i got the Office of old in the new Works software, i DEFINITELY ain't payin for an Office license now! Not just that, but with the new Wordpad (which has improved) whats the point in buyin Office?

  • i think it does nearly everything office does its great thanks for the recomendation

  • @ivancito2666 what did he do to you

  • Open Office has a format (Writer) whose files are 10x larger than MS Word. Impossible to use.

  • open office reaqlly sucks and its not completely compatible with microsoft office.. i did a seminar on open office and when my tutor on the university opened it it mixed the text with the graphs.. sucks

  • i dont care if ms office is a little better because OpenOffice is free.

  • thank goodness cus i need it for a fid and everyone seems to like it better but i kinda thought it would be a lot dumber bc the pictures it showed me

  • i like open office but i like the graphics of office 2007

  • Open Office wins!

  • Linux and OpenOffice are better than Microsoft in many ways, it's just that more people are used to Microsoft because it's so standard in industry, education, in retail computers, and the market.

OpenOffice looks a lot like MS Office 2003, and still doesn't have the docx or pptx save formats. I like the MS Office layout better but OO makes it easier for making Bibliographies and saving as an encrypted document.

I use both MS Office and Open Office, best of both worlds.

  • fake lockergnome.

  • ur such a lair,u dnt pay for ur software.. u say u will new ms office what a lie..u download it... there so many website give program with real serial so stop lying to the public cuz u scared ms will put u in jail lol

  • The fact that you don't pay for your software doesn't mean others don't.

  • dont be a slave to microsoft, break free from the white ma- uh I mean Gates.

  • ubuntu :)

  • Open office ie... open source

This was written for linux users, and it was exported to windows thanks to them. Linux rules microsoft sucks, you guys spend your 200$ on windows 7 and you will still have a virus laden spyware peice of crap. I loaded vista ultimate on my laptop within 1 min new OS i had one virus and two spyware programs on it (linux has never had a viruses)cant wait for Ubuntu 9.10 next month yah.

  • wow virus and spyware after 1 minute, you must really suck.

  • lmao idk how you can do that i dont even get online afther one min i am busy setting up windows /

ubuntu is good but idk i would say it still needs alot more work before i can make it my main o/s

  • I would fully agree with that.

I like the thought of free software and free os which linux based projects have done for us.

However I do feel it will be hard to make it my main os purely because some of the apps. I have no problem with openoffice however I do use programs like photoshop and I don't think gimp will be a adequate replacement.

Hopefully one day it will be done.

  • ubuntu is trying to hard to be their own o/s that they dont try to make it easy for new users to get the hand of it the worse thing i find about it is the way you install apps is a pain i want easy and fast install like windows and mac if not i dont see me using ubuntu as main o.s and it is limited softwares like you said

  • Sounds like you have not discovered the app for installing apps in Ubuntu. Installing software that is compiled for Ubuntu/Debian I think is WAY easier in Ubuntu than installing any app windows. Try the liveCD, an you will see what I mean. Installing apps through wine and/or compiling apps to install them however can be a real pain...

  • it dont get much easier to install apps in windows just click run install next next and done lol not hard you ubuntu you gotta go and do some crazy shit to install apps on it but i am waiting for ubuntu 9.10 so i can test it waiting for it in the mail

  • You don't get it. There is an app that comes pre installed, that lets you search in thousands of apps. choose the one you like an click install, it downloads, installs the app and all dependencies and do all the configurations for you. When it's done you just press ok, and your done! Though I agree you have to "do some crazy shit to install " certain apps

  • i know what you are taking about but some apps i need or want they dont have on that list so i have to download them and install the apps i want and are hard to install that it is pointless to try i try to learn ubuntu and make it my main o.s but is to much for me right now

  • What apps do you need, I bet there is a better free version out there.

  • Installing apps it easier than Windows, you simply click apps, search for a new one based on key word or type, then install after entering your superuser password. No money, no hassle no registration

  • windows is easy run next next ok done no terminal codes

  • @ROBDOMINICANKING Actually, there is install, acknowledge warnings from windows / firewall / antivirus about changes being made to your machine, then say where you want it installed, then tick or untick the inevitable 'free' toolbar that you can add to your explorer, then there is about 3 'nexts', then reboot your machine, then you have a virus.

Most applications on Ubuntu don't need commands entered on the text gui, but some do. A lot less than there are viruses for windows.

  • wrong just cause people download stuff that have virus dont mean every download you get is a virus i used windows and i mostly never get a virus i rather have windows telling me and making sure i want to put somthing in my pc then getting lunix that stuff in un safe hookers can hack linux whit ease people are still talking about how windows have virus but a virus is only a pis of code that makes your computer do somthing like a app one day linux whit have them so would mac

  • hookers i mean hackers typo

  • @ROBDOMINICANKING in linux mint 8 ... open package manager ,, search for GIMP amsn skype place ticks next to each ... click ok click apply .. they are installed. and can be updated regularly. with your system updates... THERE is a better and more efficient package manager for linux that lets you install as many programns as you want all together with a click of an apply..!!! WHAT century are you living in?

  • u.s.a

  • you can use wine to make programs compatible on linux

  • no no, he didn't get it, the operating system did.

  • lol you're an idiot that's why.

i got windows 7 free from MSDNAA program. I also get Microsoft Expressions 3, Visual Studio 8, for free.

then i use openoffice, 7zip, audacity, trillian, ccleaner,k-lite codec pack. all free.

i haven't spent a cent on necessary software.

i only bought macromedia studio 8. for $100. woop de fucking do.

i'm not some poor ass bastard, but i know how to spend money.

  • or linux doesnt detect virus' making linux suck..

  • Clearly you have NEVER used any Linux-based OS! NOOB!

  • Microsoft anything is a joke. You people have no idea.

  • idiot

  • Welcome to the world of no monopoly. Now return back to your big brother closets.

  • whats open office's resourse use in comparison to microsoft office? i imagine its much lighter?

  • i have that version and openoffice is still way better but people STILL dont have this because they sre not knowledgeable plus people dont know that when you save a document in open office you CAN save it in MANY formats(including 2 versions of windows) also the DONATION that they beg for SCARES the potential downloader as well this is REALLY HELPFUL if you have a netbook which dont come with an office suite-says uzipolo-king of decatur

  • I just bought a Toshiba from Costco. Does it work for the current version of office? Also how does microsoft allow this to even be out there?

  • @tovarco..yes it works for the current version of office they are ALWAYS updating the software to work with certain suites and free ware is freewsare so there is nothing microsoft can do about it google docs is ALSO doing it BUT its not as good as open office as far as compatibility also the cool thing about open office is that your documents can be COVERTED to like 15 or more things , they also have a PDF utility that is great-says uzipolo king of decatur

  • Check and see if office comes with ur computer

  • Oh i got the office package for free for like 3 months. It just blows my mind that I may not need to pay for word and excel now.

  • When I get rich, I will donate my money to Openoffice, I owe them because that stupid Microsoft Office word 2007 keep asking me for my ID number and I already gave it!

  • @Program61Lamza i agree open office is the best and sorry ass microsoft should be ashamed of themselves for ripping the public off like they do its also a shame that alot of business dont use openoffice but my business does and i saw some auto motive car dealers use open office as well its a great unique program

  • When you get rich i bet you will forget that openoffice exists.

  • most use MS

  • u have totally reason.

  • wow how da fuk u hav so many comps!

  • one for work, one for youtube, and one for porn lol

  • @Program61Lamza correction:

one for gay porn, one for animal porn, one for child porn

  • There are more OpenOffice videos here...

    freecomputertutor (dot) net

  • openoffice is a friendly free program., well office 2007 is more ..umm like windows millenium...nice nothing more is the same thing, maybe if you are a very powefull user and use very complicated formulas for the NASA... but few peolple do that so open office is right for the other try and give a chance....ok.

one point. in open office you can point a data a check directly to the tables and find it, in office you can´t

  • sie asoıdfjklfsdjkfosdkjfosldkjfjopsdhgpokjsdnfgkljsdh

  • wow you have alot of pc's!!

  • Open Office is by far the best word processing suite that I have used. I have used Linux for years and cannot understand why people pay so much money to Microsoft when there is no need. I would be very happy if Microsoft went bankrupt.

  • you can make PDF's with it too

  • Just downloaded OpenOffice for my old Windows 2000 computer. It works great. If I didn't have the money or access to MS Office, I could get by no problems with OpenOffice. OO is not exactly the same as MS 2007, but it has really narrowed the gap. How may people use all the really advanced MS Office features anyway?

  • Comment removed

  • i thought the mac one was neo office. either way there exactly the same.

  • no te entendi nada!...resumelo...

  • dont you get open office through torrents?...

  • no go to open office...they have their own site

  • I've been using Open Office, and I think that it's really great. It has all of the tools that I needed, and switching over from Microsoft Office needed very little retraining. If you're going to college, and you need an office suite, this is definitely a great, free option that is still compatible with Microsoft Office. Just recently, I was writing an essay on Open Office, but had to complete it at school so I saved it as a MSOffice file and opened it on MSOffice and it worked great!

  • OPEN SOURCE FTW xD

    thats the future

  • Trying to copy Chris Pirillo??

  • chris is cooler

  • i agree

  • I agree as well.

  • me too... : )

  • confusing lol....

  • after making a powerpoint with openOffice will it open with the windowsPowerPoint program? How do u open it?

  • save it as a ppt file its the compatibility mode

  • Anyone know how to do a web querty on the spreadsheet for open office?

  • Math is analogous to Microsoft Office Equation Editor.

  • They're both pretty good. I know an ms product that works!

  • Well I was using openoffice and came accross a problem. I was working on openoffice cal and found out that I was unable to to run a T-Test nor was I able to run ANOVA. So that basically killed openoffice for me. I need to run these test for me my stats class as well as for me bio lab so I guess this is bye bye for openoffice :( to bad because I was really happy of the fact that I didn't have to buy excel. I guess now I am screwed. Unless you guys know how to do it. Please let me know.

  • What company made Open Office 3.0.0?

  • somebody correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe its owned by Sun Microsystems, the same company that created the JAVA language. "open" means that its code is open source, which means that it has been developed by thousands of people all over the world who all contribute bits and pieces. So although its owned by Sun Microsystems, its really "the people's office suite"

  • its a mini chris pirillo

  • Wait someone help.. This show used to be hosted by another nerd right?

  • pretty good vid. only a few things

    -improve on the background noise

    -better lighting

other than that, pretty good =)

  • Thanks, but I just recently got a new cam and mic :) If you go watch my 2 newest videos from yesterday you will see XD

  • He's tring to act like Chris Pirillo.

  • lol thats just what i was thinking :D

  • Remember to save your presentations as ppt ;)

We are still not there yet, MS Office is still ubiquitous, and doesn't support Open Document Format (ODF), yet!

  • So there we go, ranting aside, it just goes to show, you really can sell a pile of doo doo coated in sugar if you're a good enough confectioner lol

  • come on guys, get it sorted and you'll kick Gates' stupid butt! Gates originally worked on OS2 with IBM before telling them to stuff it. When that retard released DOS we lost about 10 years worth of OS research. When he finally realized that he'd made a mistake, he went groveling back to IBM for the designs to OS2. He then cleverly named the new OS "Windows NT" standing for new technology... git

  • you know Bill Gates retired

  • lol

  • I'm a computer science student that wants to love open office so badly. What's stopping me is the huge compatibility issues when passing documents and presentations to Microsoft office users :(

  • Computer Science, impressive I must say.

  • > Computer Science, impressive I must say.

    LOL!

  • Funny?

  • great program

  • I use it to its great! Thanks for the vid!
