UPS will make more $ on the 3 packages than the 10 that weigh less. They will hire the workers back with higher volume because there are more packages to sort therefore more work to be done.

You are correct regarding the governments regulations but you are incorrect to imply UPS is not profitable. Both UPS and FedEx is profitable with annual Net Gains in Income. By being Net positive, they ensure that their workers will continue to benefit by having a job. On the other hand, the U.S. Postal Service is Income Negative and have been closing many post offices. Their workers have uncertainty to look forward to.
How can somebody be so far from the truth. UPS makes massive profits and have for years. The only quarter where they didn't make a significant profit was the quarter they made a bulk payment into the Pension fund.

all of you people commenting are fucking idiots. Profit and volume are not equal. If they have 3 packages that weigh 100 lbs each that is going to cost more than 10 packages that weigh 2lbs each. UPS will make more $ on the 3 packages than the 10 that weigh less. They will hire the workers back with higher volume because there are more packages to sort therefore more work to be done.

They shouldn't. But I work hard for my money, and I will still likely never be rich. It's a fact that there is rarely ever any movement between two different classes. The rich stay rich, the poor stay poor. Occasionally someone will break the mold and move from the lower class to the upper class, or vice versa, but this is rare. But I do agree with you. Lazy people should not receive hand-outs. It's counterproductive, since those people aren't contributing to society in return for their money.

You are correct regarding the governments regulations but you are incorrect to imply UPS is not profitable. Both UPS and FedEx is profitable with annual Net Gains in Income. By being Net positive, they ensure that their workers will continue to benefit by having a job. On the other hand, the U.S. Postal Service is Income Negative and have been closing many post offices. Their workers have uncertainty to look forward to.

How can somebody be so far from the truth. UPS makes massive profits and have for years. The only quarter where they didn't make a significant profit was the quarter they made a bulk payment into the Pension fund.
UPS is crushing Fedex in profits and revenue, and we're far from a quasi government agency.

And if you want a case study into why and how government handicaps business, I suggest you take a look at the USPS. Also, when New Zealand privatized their system in 1987 the change "led to improvements in efficiency, a 40 percent reduction of the system's workforce, a doubling of labor productivity, and a decrease in stamp prices."

Well that is true, but the reason no one wanted them wasn't because American cars are hip or "in". It was because they had to cut corners on quality because they were paying their employees so much due to union dues. Check it out, I mean, the average UAW worker was making upwards of $70 per hour after you factor in health insurance and pension whereas Honda or Toyota workers made $40 an hour maybe with all things considered.

You are incorrect. In the U.S., a first year driver makes 16.10 per hour until they reach their "seniority" date, then $17.25/hr for the remainder of the year. Even with overtime a first-year driver does not break $50k I am full-time 22.3, have worked as a full-time driver and 9th year with company.

I find your statement false. The reason GM failed is because they overproduced vehicles that they simply could not sell and COMPETITORS helped saturate the market with.
For many, many years the UAW helped negotiate satisfying wages and benefits - while GM profited very nicely as well. The two coexisted much the same as UPS and the Teamsters.
