Didn't mean to offend, could you please tell me if there were more to it than panel discussions why wasn't that included in the 4 minute snippet? That would have provided a well rounded view point. I've watched social programs less than 4 minutes aimed at uplifting black girls that showed a multitude of things happening. What else took place?
No offense take, just wanted to clarify the scope of the video. The discussion was student led and did include students brainstorming solutions. Unfortunately, it didn't make it to the final footage. But this was merely a stepping stone to plant a seed, the real work was followed up by the educators, parent coordinators, and community based organization that did follow up work at the participating schools to discuss the issues and continue the much needed support for children socially.
Thanks for the clarity but if you weren't offended, why did you feel the need to chastise me for my comments? I went by what I saw in the video what else did I have to go by? I'm glad that your group is working towards enlightening girls and building up their self esteem. We need more of this in our communities to combat what the media puts out there. But keep in mind, when you put something out there on youtube, you do open yourself up to comments by viewers.
There should have been more interaction and hands on experiences, activity rather than a panel discussion just talking at the kids. Talking alone doesn't do it. They could have had skits, role plays, had the kids come up with solutions. This was a good idea but poorly implemented.
It's a shame you felt that way after watching a four minute snippet from a two hour event. But more than that, while there is somebody attempting to do something positive, there will always be the critics.
This is such a great initiative. I applaud you. I happen to know Wendi and know she is a positive soul.
