  • can you possibly make a tutorial video about how to make a 2d type of game.

  • @CloudandZack1st Hello, sorry for the long delay. and I am sorry to inform you that I do not make any Video Tutorials anymore. I haven't for quite some time, and I wont make any for a very long time. I no longer own my PC and do not have DarkBASIC at my disposal. Sorry I can no longer be of any assistance to you or anyone. I rarely check this thing out now days. Thank you.

  • @wulfy88 its kool man ; )

  • uhh hes just scrolling through the help section....

  • what is the difference between darkbasic, and darkbasic pro.

they both seem like the same thing to me except they say DB pro is better because it cost more and they make more money.

  • DarkBASIC Pro is better because, it has more Functions to help you in the process, and it supports many different Filetypes for Images/Textures, Models etc, DarkBASIc the other one is a much more simplified version with less functions and stuff. I have both and you can tell the difference, and also with DBpro you can manage your projects easier and is more Uptodate. you can also program you own libraries for expanding Functionality,

  • which the other version does not Support, so yea, you get your moneys worth.

  • If you dont want to waste that much money on a Language specifically made for Games, you can always Learn the Free and more complex stuff, like C++, C#, with OGL, D3D, XNA, or what ever.

;) or make your own API.

I use all of the above.

  • AH, its just that Blitz Basic is more old, but this doesnt mean its better, DarKBasic is neweer.

But, to me, i rather learn C++ than these, as, i could get it for free and even if its hard to learn, DarkBasic gets harder once you get in it.

THe first are always with Variables,Strings,FUnctions not to mention the famous hello world program, but its more to learn if you want to make a Half Life 2 game.

About these games, They use a Game Engine that has a Level Editor and a Script editor...

  • To me DarkBASIC is not hard, its pretty much like anyother language. all languages have the same concepts. C++ is not hard to learn nor DarkBASIC, the only reason people say that it is because there are a lot of functions, proceedures or what ever. and the reason why people use Game Engines like Unreal is because you dont have to worry about the Technical aspect of Game Design, every thing you need is already there, it speeds up the process. with Dbpro its the same thing, you only worry about...

  • ...you only worry about the Logic of the game, and not the technical aspects of game design. Like in c++ you make a proceedure to load a character and that can take up to 4,000 lines of code, handleing all of the verts and shit can be very time consumming. DBpro was designed to help new ppl write logic for the game, (the fun part).

*I may be wrong about somethings but...ya*

    =]

  • That's the reply of a 107 year old Zimbabwean.

    Everyone born skilled are they?

Put it this way. It takes fewer lines to make something look good in BB than it does in DB. I'm skilled enough to know that.

  • I agree with the above. The DB community is more vibrant.

However, all things DB I've seen created look like you're looking through Vaseline at it; it just looks ....crappy, hence the VHS comment.

Although Blitz Basic maybe old, anything made with it (and BlitzMax) looks so sharp and Blu-Ray like.

    Just my two-penneth.

I've tried many times to get on board with DB - it just aint happening for me.

Don't even get me started on the GUI - default or 3rd party. they don't come close.

  • That purely depends on who's programs you are looking at the be honest. If you check out the game creators showcase you will see some amazing graphical examples that BlitzMax can't keep up with. It's easy to form your opinion, being a vibrant community, you've got users from all ends of the specturm, some users are still using 128x128 textures, while others are using 512x512, with shaders. It's really matter of who's work you look at. And remember FPS Creator was programmed in DBPro! By 1 man.

  • cool man.. just what i was looking for.. i want to switch from blitz3d to dark basic :)

  • That's like switching from Blue-Ray DVD to VHS.

  • Lets see.

BlitzBASIC... Direct X 7.1 no shader support, no frequent upgrades, old engine, poor website. About the only reason for using it is cross platform compatibility.

DarkBASIC Professional... Direct X 9.0c shader, ageia physics, AI, lighter rendering, many plugin upgrades, large online store of content, media packs, audio packs, free frequent upgrades, and when you outgrow it, you can move up to DarkGDK which is free of charge...

Sorry man, blitzbasic got left behind years ago
