bwhy do I LOVE this game, besides the reasons everyone else does? 1] one of those Arcade-to-MD/Genesis ports that IMO surpasses the original; others being Chelnov:Atomic Runner, Midnight Resistance, E-Swat, Insector X, Moonwalker & Twin Cobra. 2] the ending: the feeling of satisfaction of a job well done while watching Meio's tower crumble, buildings explode, and your glider picks you up & you fly into the sunset. just reeks of EPIC!!!
@triplestar100 also, for those who got MAME, I highly recommend Osman: Cannon Dancer, by Kouichi Isuke, the same man who developed Strider, but thgis one's made by Mitchell Corp./Atlus. when you play it, you'll thank me!
This version is in no way better than or even equal to the arcade original. It´s lacking too much of the graphics, esp. screen resolution & animations. Just compare the title screen...
@blablupp77 that's your opinion. I personally think this version is better than the arcade including the music. Maybe it isn't technically better but it all boils down to taste so it's pointless for people to argue over whether a game is better than or worse than its arcade original. This is one of the greatest arcade to home ports for its time along with Ghouls N Ghost for the PC Engine.
this just goes to show you that simplicity realy is key. strider is such a simple game in it's design and story line but it is such a phenomenal game. we spent hours playing this game as a kid. even when we beat it we still came back for more. truly a classic.
I think I wasn't clear enough in my comment. My problem isn't with *how * he's playing. The problem is, as I wrote, that he is killing the bosses too fast.
The reason one ever watches a playthrough of an old game (or at least why I would watch one) is to see the kind of ideas people had when making games back then. One wants to see what the boss fights, level design, soundtracks etc.
As such, this video is more of a speedrun than a longplay, and just didn't do it for me.
yeah in my childhood i played ristar and street fighter and jurassic park on the sega. didn't get much atari action or anything before nintendo. but my uncle has an atari which i play here and there, missle command is the shit.
NICE

Nice game but the music sucked big time (even in the arcade version). Just horrible.

@blablupp77 yea... i mean the first song in level 2 was good, but the rest fell flat.

@blablupp77 Check the TG16 version. The music in that one is da bomb.

the music of this game is fucking amazing
oldschoolvideogamer 9 months ago
@oldschoolvideogamer I know, right? Most games at the time went with a pop or contemporary style...this one had a type of atmospheric sci-fi feel.
This is also one of those rare times when the console release is better than the arcade version(at least to me) mostly due to the music.

What part of LONG play means mashing a turbo button and killing all the bosses before they do anything at all?
buddhabilla 3 years ago
still a good run

agreed but actually the fire button is pressed slow in this video.
and it seems to me MontyMole has godlike reflexes for dodging enemy attacks

i agree, but in the case of this one games (which i had long ago) the bosses aren't meant to last long even without autofire.
You may lose one health point, no more

I think that being a mechadragonhorse should get you more than 5 seconds in any game.
