This drug needs to be BANNED. I suffer from gastroparesis and after taking the drug for two days, was extremely anxious and suicidal. There should be a class of people in the lawsuits for these symptoms as well. Apparently the suit only covers the Tardive Dyskensia.
I was put on Reglan for gastroparesis and the side effect I suffered was severe anxiety attacks immediately after each dose, lasting for 15-30 minutes. Because the panic attacks were drug induced I could not calm down and had to be held by a family member to keep me from killing myself after taking a dose. I was taken off the Reglan because of this, and switched to Domperidone, which was completely ineffective.
Pfft, I suffer from chronic cyclic vomiting syndrome.
I'd rather put up with odd involuntary movements when I'm 80, than belching sulphur, having diarrhea and vomiting nonstop for two weeks at a time when young :\ Metoclopramide for the win.
@Slikhedgehog This drug works for me too. I'm sorry people have had bad side effects but when the alternative is having your life destroyed by a gastrointestinal disorder, you deal with it.
@palewhiteribbon The only people who are likely to get side effects are those who use it continuously for years on end. Having it whenever you get the odd stomach bug or upset won't be as harmful but I've heard recently that Motilium is better than Maxolon/metoclopramide. It basically encourages the stomach to accelerate the contents out through the small intestine and duodenum without the side effects.
5 min. after receiving a Regaln shot I got very hot, red all over my body, sweating & extremely anxious. I didn't know what to do with myself and had to move. My heartbeat went up really high, and my muscles especially in the legs and jaws stiffened. I was clenching my jaws repeatedly. I received a Valium shot. The redness disappeared but I still was as if a huge amount of dopamine flushed my body. After 3 grueling hours my heartbeat finally went down to normal and my muscles started relaxing.
I was on reglan for a little while when I was in the hospital for stomach ulcers....it was one of my many medicines, but my eyes rolled back in my head and my back was arched along with my neck and i couldnt see or control alot of muscles but i could talk...it was the scariest thing that has ever happened to me....my dr gave me a shot of benadryl and my muscles slowly loosened and my eyes went back to normal....it was like god gave me a second chance. I was so happy to be alive. it was horrible.
I know what you mean, by it being horrible. I took it, but my jaw went all the way to left. My eyebrows went all the way up. My tongue was twisted, swollen, and twisted in my mouth. I had to be rushed to the ER. To get benadryl.
It was scarey, I thought I was going to die. I understand how scared you were, I have been there.
More information on this drug should be widely circulated, people should be aware of the side effects this drug can cause, it can also cause depression, akathesia, parkonism symptons, confusion, loss of appetite, insomnia and lots more..more likely to get these side effects if taken for more than 3 months. A dangerous drug in my opinion after taking it myself for 7.5 months. I would NOT recomend METOCLOPRAMIDE !!!
