@Miloo222 No comp - GTi takes that hands down. Supple but agile chassis, power everywhere, excellent interior, and well, German Engineered. The Mazda 3 is cheaper, but even with the 2.3L motor you can't compete with the GTi's 2.0T motor. The handling, however, is at least on par. I've been able to out-grip/out-handle Civic Si's, Celicas, and kept toe-to-toe with a WRX Impreza through the offramps - in the base-level 3i 2.0L. If it's a MazdaSpeed 3 vs. GTi, well, now we're talkin' competition...
Maybe it's different abroad.. but here in the states Ford = poor to barely average quality..(.UAW union Detroit built crap... just like GM and chrysler) and has been for years, althought it's improved some....heck, I would choose a VW product,(which has a spotty reliability history too).. over a Ford!

The US only has 2.0 or 2.5; the 2.0L is a good balance between power and fuel efficiency. As an owner of a 2.0L manual trans. 2010 Mazda 3 for about a year, I agree with everything this video says.
In the UK the Maz 3 comes with a 1.6 not a 2.5, the US 2.5 morphs this car into a contender in the REAL world , smoking average drivers in above average cars that have it in thier head since they dropped 100K $ they can beat anybody - a good driver with time behind the wheel of a Maz3 can do some serious EGO damage to the BMW, Porsche etc. punks that think putting your foot thru the floor will do..NOT..This cars Midrange power and accurate steering can make those in the know sweat bullits

Bland? The older look was way better. Honestly, without its distinctive size being between the mazda 2 and 6 you cant really tell it is a 3. The cars design is just way too busy now. Ill stick with my 08
For the Record, for any clueless auto journalists out there spreading FORDS DISINFO, Mazda never used a Ford chassis for ANYTHING, other than the North American Market ONLY Ford Ranger chassis. Everywhere worldwide EXCEPT North America however, All Ford midsize utes are Mazda B-series, built by Mazda. UK has a 1.6 iitre engine - don't really know why - one of the most stupid decisions in motoring history, especially when compared to models in other countries that come with 2.0/2.5L motors.

Sorry. I never considered reliability. I buy appliances for reliability. I buy cars for fun. Last 2 were Porsche Carrera 4 and Lotus Elise. Add to that 20 more years in Corvettes. Maybe 3 or 4 trips to the mechanic in 24 years. You may say your Toyota is more reliable but having nearly 100% reliability I can't see a reason to trade up into a Corolla or similar. This reliability thing is overused. Most new cars are reliable. Ever since fuel injection and computers.

I've driven about a billion cars (normal and exotic), and in the end I prefer Mazda's to any other make out there.

I am currently on my third Mazda 3. I have had a 2005 1.4 TS, a 2007 1.6 TS and the new shape 2009, 1.6TS.
I always used to buy Nissans, but it seems that all Nissan make now is various types of People carriers.
I like something that looks like a car, not a bread van.

Mazda make great cars.I`ve owned a 1995 mazda 323F (Lantis) for the past 11 years and it has been a very reliable car.Still running well too and no rust even though i live in wet coastal region but i think it`s time for a change and i`m definitely getting a new mazda 3 this year.

My first car 2004 MAZDA3..When I was reading reviews everywhere they said it was bland and boring(in UK) but I still belived my instinct and got myself test drive and wow it fuckin' blew me away..Ford can no way be compared to Mazda 3..also this guy has no clue wot he is on about.

well fyi ford owns about 40% of mazda.
the mazda3 is basically a nicer ford focus.
just the bigger engine.
the 2.0L focus engine is the same 2.0L as in the mazda3.
and mazda3 has FOMOCO stamped everywhere on it (ford motor company)

UK has a 1.6 iitre engine - don't really know why - one of the most stupid decisions in motoring history, especially when compared to models in other countries that come with 2.0/2.5L motors.
If it had a larger engine it would be much better and more popular

A load of shit. The old 3 is awesome, and it is anything but boring. It has the perfect balance and somehow outperforms my parents' 4x4 cars in snow. Go figure. Anyone who think is sucks obviously never tried it.

I don't think that Mazda 3 is bad or boring or anything. It is one of my future cars to buy. Mazda 3 or Ford Focus. The best cars. Better then any BMW, Mercedes or Audi.

But of course, BMW, Audi, Merc are great cars, better then Mazda3 or Focus.

Sorry. I never considered reliability. I buy appliances for reliability. I buy cars for fun. Last 2 were Porsche Carrera 4 and Lotus Elise. Add to that 20 more years in Corvettes. Maybe 3 or 4 trips to the mechanic in 24 years. You may say your Toyota is more reliable but having nearly 100% reliability I can't see a reason to trade up into a Corolla or similar. This reliability thing is overused. Most new cars are reliable. Ever since fuel injection and computers.

@wd1000 Ok, then we are two very diffrent men :) I drive ''boring'' Volvo S40 and bought it especially for reliabiltiy. Car I had before that: Volvo 460.
You can see what I mean by reliability, I want from car to drive me from A to B, without any problems.
In other case, you buy Porsche's which are the best high-performance cars in world. Again, in reliability :)
Middle class worker with limited budget, who has no interest of fun and fast driving, will buy Focus or Mazda3, for reliablitiy.

@846524162 Understood.... different strokes.... My point is certain car makers over-hype reliability. If brand 'A' has 2 problems per 20,000 miles and brand 'B' has 1 problem, then brand 'A' is twice as reliable. But how bad is 2 per 20,000. The mechanic shops are not littered with broken cars like in 1945. Think about this. How much more reliable is your Volvo than my Lotus (which has needed nothing other than fluid changes)? And it's British! Maybe you're being tricked by 'reliability'.

@wd1000 You're right, in this times reliability is something diffrent then 20 years ago. Back then car was basicly made in one factory, now car are made in all 5 continents. Things are changing. Every car is great and in the same time every car is crap.

@wd1000 it doesn't matter because HOnda's will last way longer then any of those fancy cars. And the new 2010 Ford Taurus looks better then a porsche(frog car) and the corvette....Performance wise none of those cars got anything on the 2010 ford shelby gt 500 mustang....Deuces!!!

@nsulademon ....Actually Mazdas, especially the Mazda3 have a good reliability record, and so did the Mazda Protege, and the 323, which the Mazda 3 replaced. And both Hondas and Mazdas,(and anything from Japan) will waaaay outlast your Shelby mustang, or whatever it is.....just more Detroit junk built for rednecks and trailer trash.

@wd1000 you DO realize that not everyone likes those types of cars right? Just because you hold those nameplates in such high regard doesn't mean they're greater than any other car firm. That's just your personal preference/fantasy. I personally believe that Mazda is the greatest car firm there is with Ferrari being 2nd place. I've driven about a billion cars (normal and exotic), and in the end I prefer Mazda's to any other make out there.
It's all personal preference friend :)
