@ApatheticOmniscience you do realize that it was still considered a sin right. If your going to site the Bible then you might want to do some more research than just typing in on google "Bible supports slavery" or something. Further more they weren't accually slaves as e think of slaves today, they sold their services for 7 years at a price, and as it says in the very next verse, "...but on the seventh he shall go out as a free man..."
@crazyliclay Irrelevant. Unless God himself spoke out against it, the Bible still permits it. Because of his apathy, millions of people endured extremely harsh and unbearable lives. Slave masters could be Christian and believe that their actions were acceptable. Just so long as the slave didn't "die as a direct result"... Pitiful.
@ApatheticOmniscience Your right it is pitiful. But those people were not Christians. They may have called themselves Christians, but any true Christian would have know that the Bible does not condone slavery in any form. What do you mean by God himself, you realize that God wrote the Bible by telling people what to write? Look at 1 John for Christ sake, "...and the Word WAS God"
@crazyliclay Yes, but if God spoke it to the writers, they would have written it. All I'm saying is that the Bible is quite lax when it comes to the rules of slavery. For that, the Christian world was easily mislead in their definition of human rights.
@ApatheticOmniscience but it's not. the very verse that you quoted is incorrectly translated. the word in Hebrew( the original translation) means bond man, or Bond SERVANT. If you have another place that confuses you i'll be glad to tell you the Hebrew translation. Im not being mean, i just dont want someone to think something incorrect about my religion. I'll pray for you.
@crazyliclay Ok, well let's suppose you're right... Let's say that the bible was talking about treatment towards "servants" rather than slaves.
But does that really fix anything? I mean... slavery still the "elephant in the room", it's kinda invisible to his eye. Why didn't God specifically mention not to have slaves? If everyone was created "equal" in his eye, shouldn't that apply to slaves as well? An "11th commandment" of abolition would have been a relief to many of his future children...
@ApatheticOmniscience I'll quote directly from the text, "Honor your father and mother; and you shall love your neighbor as yourself." Mathew 19:19 referring to any one that you come in contact with. the Hebrew translation for neighbor has the same root as bond servant. Anything else i can clarify for you? (i dont mean to sound condescending, again i just dont want you to think ill of my religion)
@crazyliclay Well, yeah, of course there are plenty of occasions in the bible that promote the "golden rule". But, it's kinda vague; something that just wasn't applied to the concept of owning slaves. Considering what we now know, and look back on, I don't think it was specific enough to be effective. Even Christian nations took ages to finally consider the morality of the slave trade. Did God not forse such a thing?
Additionally, just curious, did Jesus ever speak out against slave ownership?
@ApatheticOmniscience that verse i just said is spoken by Jesus. It's not Gods fault if we dont apply all His teachings; that's our job. And again ur right some nations did take a long time to consider it, and thats bad. No doubt they were not following what God says in the Bible. And vague is not really an appropriate term for the golden rule, to something like all-inclusive
@crazyliclay But, if God is omniscient, why didn't he see such a terrible thing happening? If he really expected everyone to accept the "golden rule", then there would be no need for explaining specific things like commandment VI - X. We seem to respect "thou shalt not commit adultery", but as for slavery? It wasn't even mentioned!
He spoke out against many other things, but why didn't Jesus ever reprimand slave owners for possession of slaves? Its like he just shrugged it off and walked away..
Article VI of the Constitution: "Senators, Reps, Legislators.....are bound by oath OR AFFIRMATION (emph. mine) to support this constitution, but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States." Not only does it not matter what book you swear on, you needn't even swear.
Do you want to go back 5 century ago. We are now in modern world. Who want to be stone to death, cut your hands, cover your face like a criminal. Prophet Mohammad married 12 women went beyond four-wife limit for an ordinary Muslim. What known miracles did he performed. According to Duaa Anwar an author of everything - Koran book. Islam is barbaric, violent, bloodthirsty, backward and oppressive religion. Find the truth..Read the Bible and believe in Jesus Christ the true savior. Amen.
@MrWisePete That was exactly my point. In religious studies we call it quote mining. It's when people like the poster of this video cherry picks verses or statements out of historical and biblical context to make the religion look bad. People should try to be tolerant of other people religious preferences rather than make such efforts to cause conflict.
@celticcrisis Two planes flown into two buildings in New York has made me intolerant. Innocent doctors, performing a legal job under the U.S. law, murdered in cold blood made me intolerant. Are all Muslims and Christians this way? No. Muslims cherry pick just as bad as Christians. And for the record "moderate" Muslims rejoiced when the towers went down. Threatening the creators of South Park was the last straw for me. Up until the towers, I never said a cross word about Islam.
@ChristianHamOperator...You should go take a history course and learn something. Or even better pick up a quran and read it since it's obvious you know as little about it as this video.
Yes, there are MANY places in the quran that state all equalities of people including gender equality. I could quote dozens of places but just read the quran for yourself. It's sad so many westerners talk about something they have never read and spread hate.
The Bible however, contains MANY places stating inferiority of women, but because of space here's just one.
1 Corinthians 11:7-9:"For a man...is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man. For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; neither was man created for woman but woman for man. For this reason, and because of the angels, the woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head." (NIV)
Does the quran teach equality in PRACTICE not just in word??
Also having authority does not equate to inequality. Gordon Brown has authority over the country, my Boss has authority over me, that does not mean we are unequal or entitled to equal rights. ; )
@sneaksuit looking at that verse it follows quite logically with the scenario of creation in Genesis. you can't pick out one verse and draw up your conclusions like that, it's reckless and grossly irresponsible, there are many other verses like Ephesians 5:25-27 or 1 Peter 3:7 or Colossians 3:19 that clearly state that a man should love his wife and care for her.
It's really too bad your guest doesn't know anything about Islam. It questions this series credibility. There are MANY places in the Quran that it states equality but because of lack of space I will only quote one. [3:195] Their Lord responded to them: "I never fail to reward any worker among you for any work you do, be you male or female - you are equal to one another."
@sneaksuit He knows plenty about Islam and so do many others who know the truth about this false-satanic inspired so called religious faith. Muhammad was a nasty & disgusting dog of a false prophet and the Qur'an is nothing more than a "man" inspired piece of trash!
A very smart man, I love listening to Bill, his info is always top notch and clearly presented

Great video! Thanks for posting this!
I'd suggest dropping the background or turning it way down however.
