  • I like it because it pay homage to one of the most influential bands in modern music! RIP Joe

  • hammer

  • you got some tight stuff.. thanx for posting this!!

  • Lamento disentir con la mayoría, pero me gusta tanto la versión de The Clash como esta, el mundo se renueva constantemente

  • Grässlich..

  • plz send me the mp3

  • covers are ok some times. some times people copy out of lack of creativity and claim theyre paying homage. also it can shed light on the original artist for people like me who usually listen to hiphop ( i just heard guns of brixton, 5stars!).

  • True, but i dont think Santogld can be accused of having a lack of creativity. Its a cool take on the original, probably due to the fact its incredibly similar. For proper cover/retakes look to Tricky, totally reshapes songs and generally betters the original

  • Isn't this plagiarism? Like, isn't it illegal or something?

  • What a terrible, terrible attempt to replace the Clash. fuck

  • This and the original are both great

  • this is just the clashes guns of brixton with some echo on the track and santogold singing replacing the word brixton with brooklyn. pretty wank. origionals miiiiiiles better.

  • Its called Dub you clown.

  • that comment shows your ignorance.

how little you know about music. without Dub or Reggae The Clash wouldn't exist or have the sound they have. The original is a rip off in itself...

  • Ghost of Frankenstein!!!!

  • i listen to a fair bit of dub, this is shite. its just the origional with echo on it. and yeah course the clash would be fuck all without dub and reggae, dont see how its a rip of though.

  • i prefer king tubby and augustus pablo etc, thats all recorded on live instruments, not origional songs remastered. I can see this sounding good with a decent rig and more bass, just sounds too hollow and dead as it is though.

  • personal preference i guess...

  • I agree with the live dub vs. electronic, but this is still pretty good.

I know what you mean though, I love Tubby and Pablo to the death of me, but every times I try and branch out into the genre I run into electro shit that doesn't work at all. Tubby sounds like he sprung from the earth to reverberate through the cosmos and you need those live instruments to get that feel.

  • check out mgmt

  • For dub?

  • Even though... still its just robbing others stuff.

  • you know, most of the oldies you hear and jam out to on the radio are just covers..

i would never have heard of the guns of brixton if it wasnt for santigold...

    so....

    stfu

  • it would have been better if they had just left it as braxton

  • @TeamInsomnia brixton

  • @ElHajjMalikElShabbaz

Kind of like how the Rolling Stones ripped off rock music? Or, is it more like how Vivaldi ripped off Baroque-era music? It is you who is the ignorant one.

  • @ElHajjMalikElShabbaz the originals better. without the clash music like this wouldnt exist.

the clash didnt just write dub and reggae, they revolutionised it. this tracks ok i guess but calling the clash rip offs shows how little you know. they were inspired by other genres and combined them with punk to make original music that santogold could never hope to come close to.

listen to london calling and call the clash rip offs.

  • @splatch1000 and @tiredly He's calling the original song a rip off by mistake, I don't think he's calling Clash rip offs

  • @ElHajjMalikElShabbaz I agree with what you say, Clash where big fans of roots reggae and dub, the whole Sandinista was produced by Mikey Dread. To my knowledge though The Guns of Brixton is an original Clash song, written by there bassist Paul Sinomon, it just has a lot of influence from Jamaica, because Paul loved reggae.

  • the best

  • true

  • santogold is amazing !

  • A great record.
