  • I love how the heart and soul of AIC doesn't put himself in the center but leaves that to Duvall, that's pretty classy. They both harmonize very well, not quite Layne but close enough to keep the AIC sound going. I like how Duvall isn't trying to be or replace Layne but to carve his own place into the band. They still rock to me.

  • i wanna kick myself in the head for not being there!!! freakin awesome video!!!

  • Stellar footage man !!!

whn I saw these guys in 07 with their new singer

Niagara Falls NY - 5000 people standing there with their arms crossed all thinking

"this new guy better blow Layne out of the water" ...

and man ohh man .. did he ever kill it !!!

R.I.P. Layne - but I think they found a suitable replacement.

  • 6 people must have sneezed when trying to click the like button...

  • doing the double air fist every time i hear this song!!!!!! :P

  • ... dude ... why is everyone in the crowd just standing there? Some guy on the right side of the screen is doing the double fisted air dance, but that's .. about it... AIC would get more action out of a crowd of uptight germans in leather jackets and military boots! lol .. I get it.. most of the people in the crowd have republican roots and they're not allowed to dance unless the banks say so, right? lol.. I wouldn't play in D.C. ever again, that's for sure.

  • @MrAKFrost You have to remember that when this was shot, this album hadn't been released yet and most people hadn't even heard this song yet. This was the first show of their US tour supporting the new album and one of the very first times they played this song live, of not the first.

  • @MrAKFrost some venues don't allow moshing. sad but true.

  • Fucking hell. At Sonisphere I'm gonna start a pit- can't be having people standing around to Alice In Chains.

  • man this new guy should be singing r&b or something...not grunge rock...his voice is good, no doubt but not for Alice in chains man.....

  • it sounded terible ... he cant sing ...

  • how can you have such a shit crowd for such a great band

  • yeah man last night i went to there dar hall in dc and i got a jerry cantrell pick he threw out the concert was fucking awesome

  • Not important but just out of curiosity, what kind of pick does he use? Is there a brand/density on there? Or is it something custom?

  • its basicly a dunlop tortex with his signiture and ALICE written on the back :D

  • fucking crazy crowd

  • la fosse est endormie ! :s

  • REHAB IS FOR QUITTERS

  • weed rocks!

  • the crowd sucks

  • @smackers1514 I agree...shame huh

  • If alcoholism is a disease, so is tobaccoism.

  • no tobacco doesn't cause impairment of fine motor skills. Alcohol does, as do other drugs.

Tobacco maybe harmfull. but it doesn't intoxicate you and make you not able to do what you could normally do in a course of a day.

Tobacco has never made somebody miss work. or not be able to provide for a family.

    alcohol addiction has

  • @Wesson4

But since when do we define a disease as something that effects motor skills. How the hell do you define alcoholism as a disease?

  • you look like something that Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley kicked out of KISS. Raped Jesus ...........WTF ?!

  • I think jerry should be in the middle... all the time now.. wtf...

  • Guys this is a pointless argument, Watch the video or shut the fuck up. And there new songs sounds just as good as there old stuff. Love it.

  • Comment removed

  • OMFG wow alcohol is no different than any other drug you dumb ass. It jsut happens to be legal thats all.

You obvisouly have a grade 5 education retarded inbred hick.

thats the studpidest thing that has ever been said.

Alocholism is not a disease. Ok bud!

Wow read a fucking book sometime

    Read a fucking book

  • THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF ALCOHOL ABUSE

Yes, alcoholism is a disease. The craving that an alcoholic feels for alcohol can be as strong as the need for food or water. An alcoholic will continue to drink despite serious family, health, or legal problems.

  • Like many other diseases, alcoholism is chronic, meaning that it lasts a person's lifetime; it usually follows a predictable course; and it has symptoms. The risk for developing alcoholism is influenced both by a person's genes and by his or her lifestyle.

  • If addiction is a disease there are many things that fall into that category.

The problem with the whole disease argument is that it amputates personal responsibility from the equation. Heroin is physically and mentally addictive substance. Knowing this, he could have chose a different path. It was his fault. Alcoholism is the alcoholic's fault.

Layne's undeniable talent doesn't wash fundamental truths away.

Finally, this new stuff isn't the most awesome stuff but it is better than nothing.

  • i think you are right i am not an alcoholic but i have a alcohol problem my problem is that i cannot say stop when i am drinking and i do thinks i would never do when i am drunk so i dont drink anymore sometimes i fall back and do something stupid and then i stop again my longest break was 4 years away from alcohol the biggest problem is to go out with your friends and have fun bcoz you really want to drink but i see it like this if i dont want to die i cannot drink

  • start smoken the green then bud that will help you alot

  • i already do bro and i love it

  • you are so right and i couldn't agree more...but ...c'mon....stupidest? he may need to read a book...but you should go check out the dictionary

  • whatever.. me saying stupidiest isn't near as bad as him trying to deny, that alcoholism isn't a disease

  • haha hes probably an alcoholic in denial

  • shut up ashole and go to a institute or die alredy.... you need help, jajajajajaja

  • i just learnd the song on guitar

  • Layne is dead. William is very good. Fuck you gaylords

  • OLD AIC WAY BETTER

  • hey asswipe they've made one album!

  • great recording, only hope the rest of their show was exciting.

  • They sound awesome!

  • This song is fucking wicked I love it !!!

  • love how duvall knows enough about music to cover cantrell's guitar part during the solo...and then to fuck off when the appropriate time comes.

  • I don't mind the sound/song - maybe a few more listens and I'll like it more - many AIC song's have a habit of doing that for more - Rooster being a prime example. Can't say they look very lively for a rock show! I know it's only a 3-4min snapshot of one song and my comment should be read with that in mind. I am only commenting on the small portion I can see from this footage.

  • to the ppl who say he sounds just like layne n better...ur retarded

  • :( no energy. this is no good. Sigh. Layne I misssss you.

  • Layne just stood there are sang in case you don't remember...

  • when you went back in 1991 Layne was awesome in his stage presence. it was in 1993 and 1996 Layne was pretty much standing on stage with very little stage presence. most likely do to his addiction!

  • you´re wrong.this song is awesome.AIC rocks!

  • its good but not great .... sorry ..just not the same ....

  • i really wana see these guys live, i think their new album is amazing the new singer is doing a good job

  • addiction is not a sickness. it deffinitely is a choice. i think i would know.

  • Doing drugs is a choice. Addiction itself may be a disease, but injecting yourself with heroin or any other substance IS A CHOICE. That is all.

  • I'm in recovery for drug addiction. I can say that I made the choice to abuse drugs(oxycontin and cocaine) and when it finally brought me down I threw in the towel. What people who aren't addicts don't understand is the power addiction has over you not only mentally but spiritually as well. It's a shame Layne couldn't pull through. He seemed like an amazing guy.

  • @mkultra138 hey man keep up the good fight!!!!!!! you deserve to live a full life. not be punished by a bad decision!!!!!

  • @mkultra138

I'm very proud of you. I understand the power of addiction also. It is such a tragedy that Layne died before he could realize that it was a dead end road. An awesomely gifted man has left the music world because of this dreadful disease.

  • dad was there and hes going to one in oregon

  • THE NEW SINGER IS PURE AWSOME!

  • Comment removed

  • This is my favorite song now. its awesome, and it has a rally simple riff that is easy to play on guitar great for beginners.

  • Awesome!!!

  • Wow the crowd looks like they're enjoying themselves a little much...

  • ITS LENNY KRAVITZ!!!!!!

  • man i wish layne was still alive how the fuk can they play without layne, it's not alice in chains without Layne

  • Blame Layne for being a junkhead!! He essentially killed the band's career. More power to em' for carrying on!!

  • anybody who knows anything about addiction knows that the person addicted should not be counted on to shoulder the blame for being ill....care to recant ?...

  • Neither should his former band members who decide to carry on. So no. I don't care to recant.

  • that's what loving people is all about....you try to carry on WITH them until it is made clear that you cannot, and the choice is made to carry on WITHOUT them....that only became evident when layne died....when that happened, there was, but one choice left.....you should be rescinding your previous statement anytime now, chief.....

  • Yeah don't blame the drug addict for being a drug addict, that makes alot of sense.

  • yeah, just like you don't blame the diabetic for being a diabetic...that SHOULD make a lot of sense, simpleton....

  • You aren't very bright are you?

Becoming a smack addict is a choice, becoming diabetic is not.

Now stfu and get the sand out of your cunt. Thanks.

  • ahh, you again, simpleton....let's see...addiction is a sickness as diagnosed by tenured doctors in the AMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION.....

  • it is a SICKNESS that COMPELS one to ADDICTIVE BEHAVIORS....where, yes, the choice to TRY a potentially addictive drug is a choice, there is no choice when it comes to whether or not one has innate, addictive tendencies....that is rooted more in one's genetic make-up....i like this dialogue we're having, simpleton.....makes me feel intellectually superior talking to an addlepate like you....probably a victim of public schooling too, i'd wager....a pity....

  • No.

You can't assume that everyone who becomes a junkie does so because it's part of their genetic make-up.

And you don't even know if Layne has addiction in his family, so don't even try to pull that "it's a disease" card.

When you make the choice to do smack, and you have lots of access to it, you're probably going to become addicted regardless of "genetic make-up".

And learn to type a coherent sentence before insulting my education, fool.

  • it's not your education i'm insulting....rather, it's the lack of it....good day, simpleton....

  • also, it's dangerous for you to assume that i assume anything....you might consider that i work in the field of addiction or have been an addict myself ( at least one of these is true ), so take a chance and believe that maybe somebody out there knows more about these things than you do....you just stay in your room, smoke your dope, and try to pick your ax, rock star....the table for intellectual lightweights is down the hall and to the left....

  • Sorry, but nobody gets a free pass for being a junkie. Not you, and not even a rock god.

Anyone who ends up in that situation does so by their own accord, could have avoided it. No amount of loaded words or psychological jargon can change that.

I'm not here to demonize drug addicts but to relieve addicts of any blame or responsibility for their situation is ludicrous.

  • well....sorry to say...you don't think the way i think because you don't have the luxury of knowing what i know....put the guitar down, stop banging your head, get a haircut, and pursue knowledge....you may still have a chance...

  • There, now I've shut you both up! Go flame each other somewhere else. Remember, arguing on the internet is like competing in the Special Olympics, you might win but you're still retarded.

  • NICE!

  • @jem74 True as great as Layne was he actually hurt the band's career because they couldnt even tour with him anymore and when they did, they had to cancel dates and not complete tours. If you have seen the last performances with him live in 1996 when they opened up for KISS, he looked shot and almost on his way out then sadly. I can only imagine what he looked like the last couple years of his life before he died. This band is too great to be stopped and I for one am so happy they carried on

  • @CFKMAN i forone feel so bad for him and his family!!!!!!!!!! but the rock must go on!!!!!! rockon chains

  • layne was great. but jerry does soo much work. harmonizing. i don't think they even need that new guy. jerry knows all the songs. he can just sing and play. but whatever...

  • sounds...great...live

  • Dissorder1 i'm totally agree; i have the documentary called HYPE!, and it shows all of the same crap of what we're waching every day about the mainstream, so try to get that video pal.

  • at 1:02, the bass guitarist is retuning a string while the song is playing

  • this song has alot of bending in it, i have to retune my guitar when playing it sometimes too. i need new tuners.

  • not too good live( might be the audio quality) but they are an awesome band

  • great band!!

  • The lighting guy screwed up on the second verse. Nice recovery though. GoTo Cue 4.

  • this is a good song but dude....RapeJesus? thats bad and i hope he forgives you cuz he will

  • I totally agree bro

  • Man lemme clear this again...GRUNGE IS NOT A SOUND U IDIOTS! Its like asking what ur favorite type of music is and you say Hippie! wtf...grunge is there way of life not the sound...a group of seattles came up with the term b/c thats there way of life grunge...now AIC is alternative sometimes heavy metal...theres no such thing as a grunge sound its there way of life and dressing...

  • You are so right, Grunge was just an annoying terminology kind of like emo...Seattle simply provided the best music back in the early 90's, heartfelt rock n roll...it was so great to watch all that shit hair metal lose their mealticket, most of those L.A posers were more concerned about getting a B.J than writing a good song, and Seattle wiped them off the slate....

  • Alice in Chains RULES!

    best grunge band ever!

  • ┌─┐ ┴─┴ ಠ_ರೃ

  • im diggin new singer

  • hey... but in the clip, there's another man singing, and not the guitarrist!!!

    Didn't understood that!!

  • ToMAHHsTheRocker, you don't know a damn about alice in chains isnt it? hehehe,

    nevermind cheers!

  • yeahh I really don't know!!!

well, I saw that clip and thoght that there was another man singing, but ... I think i was drugged!!

    hahahhaa

  • I don't give a fuck!!! This is some of the absloute SICKEST Alice In Chains in a long time! Now that Layne is gone, he wouldn't let Jerry and crew end up with a fucking pansy...DuVall is a badass. I bet Layne throws horns from beyond the grave...

  • I am so fucking sick of EVERY TIME I see an AIC performance, there is always this comparison crap going on. So fucking juvenile.. Come on,just listen to it..It's called MUSIC! These guys could fart into a microphone and it would be fucking amazing!

  • Really

  • lmao how funny that may seem youre quite right....the thought of that happening is also very funny! lol.

  • hahahahahahahahahaha

  • this grunge/metal thing does me in?!?!? I thought that they were known as a grunge band originally but because they didn't sound like the grunge bands after them they became known as a "Dirt Rock" band?!

  • Who cares wins...

  • couldn't agree more man! too many people worry about pigeon holing a band into a genre, hence the reason there are so many genres nowadays...bottom line is i think this tune is cool as fuck and i love it, despite what genre it is, so lets just enjoy eh!!?!

  • Ohh, an Anthrax reference....

  • State of Euphoria :)

  • There are certain times when he gets a little too high in vocalization compared to Laynes vocals. But, hey he is a new guy and he can listen to vids like this and do a self evaluation. The actual studio vocals are much more together. This song does have the A I C sound though. Glad they are back.

  • Their back and still one hell of a legendary band. Layne would have wanted Alice in chains to continue and by getting duvall, the gods have blessed us with a astounding singer who sounds just like Layne. I'm so glad their back and sound the same they did almost 15 years ago! I can die happy now. Suck it biotch!!!

  • hmm i've got a question, and it may seem dumb but i'm just confused because of when watching the video i grew unsure of who was doing the higher harmonies. is it the new singer hitting the higher notes or the guitar player or is it that the new singer sounds a lot like layne?

  • its the new singer who sounds alot like layne and hes hitting the high notes,.

  • well that does answer my question haha. thanks, but i don't think he's doing both. i know the other guitar player was known for his vocal harmonies, so he's gotta be the guy hitting the higher notes/

  • nah,

    he does the low ones,

you can hear the difference in the break of a looking in view,

they were hardly going to get a new singer with less range than the guitarist,

  • WHO THE FUCK CARES WHAT THEY ARE!

They are 4 guys who play great music! Leave it at that children & shut the fuck up!

  • fuck you merlin you stupid bitch!

  • ...........WOW!

  • You know eventually someone's gonna play the RACE card...and for what.

People in general, are stupid. Yea, the guy is black, so what.

None of these guys are trying to marry your sister and if ya don't like the music, move on my friend...that's my attitude, as it seems to be yours , so high five to ya.

  • Was the race thing towards me? cause it has nothing to do with it for me, Layne was an awesome unique frontman, The videos I've seen on youtube doing old AIC I didn't like with Duvall but the new stuff is great & I still love AIC

  • sooo true i think many pepople thinks that....Duvall isn't good at covereing AIC's oldies but the new AIC he does them Justice

  • hahahaha....lol...good comment... the new video&song rocks

  • AIC still sounds awesome

  • you fuckin' assholes that say Alice In Chains was a grunge band need to pull your heads out of your dumb fuckin' asses..AIC was and IS a METAL band! And I also noticed this was a deadfuck crowd. I saw them back in 91 with Van Halen and they rocked the house down.

  • Jerry Cantrell stated in an interview long ago that they were always a Grunge band.

Hell the band comes from Seattle's Grunge scene from the 1990's.

You need to check your information more carefully.

And since Cantrell is one of the co-founders of the band, I'll take his word over yours.

  • you're an idiot, have you ever seen the band's music box dvd? he stated "we are a heavy rock band" direct quote..now fuck off

  • alnd also like i stated, just because they came out of Seattle in the early 90's doesn't mean they're a grunge band...how many bands came out of LA in the eighties? Were they all hair metal bands? NO

  • Grunge is a sub-genre of alternative rock, just as Metal has it's variations of sub-genres (Thrash, Death, Black, Power, or Speed Metal), All of those variations of Rock to begin with.

Can you honest classify songs such as Heaven Beside You, Over Now, No Excuses, or Nutshell as Metal songs? no.

But I'll admit that AiC has some very hard and fast material (Them Bones, Grind, Rain when I Die)

But that doesn't make them a metal band.

  • Doesn't make them a grunge band either, I will go with what Cantrell call his own band and that is a "heavy rock band" And most sub-genres are a little tickytack...do you honestly believe most people care or know the difference between speed metal or thrash? No, and I'll tell you why...there IS no difference.

  • Agreed omegaranma, aic were the first grunge band to be signed to a label. Definitely the heaviest grunge band but still a grunge band none the less.

  • No not a grunge band. Why do we have to try and stick labels on everything.

AIC are a heavy metal band. Always have been, always will be.

  • they are both heavy metal and grunge. They have said many times they're music is a mix of things includeing heavy metal. So yes in a way they are the heavyist grunge band but they are also heavy metal.

  • AIC = grunge , metal, hard rock, classic rock, classical, and soul/blues - all rolled up in one band....... don't ever put AIC in a group with other bands .... the masters have returned... bow down

  • sorry, dickhead...not grunge! now fuck off, retard

  • Classic AiC's!!! Grunge aint Dead!!

  • can some one give me a site for their tour dates i wana see if ill get the chance to see them after such a long time

  • the new album is fucking incredible. congrats to AIC for pulling it off and not losing a step.

  • This song fucking rules!

  • the "fans" are zombies

  • what i like about this is that DuVall is not trying to sound like Layne. And we need to understand that sadly, layne is dead. But this music needs to continue. AIC is still one of the best rock bands out there

  • Its not a money making scheme and even if it is its none of your fucking business.. Their new material is A+... I love the new lead singer and im glad the band is back... Layne is probably smiling in heaven right now!! DuVall isnt trying to upstage Layne, he is just the new lead singer.. AC/DC did it, Van Halen did it, Motley Crue did it POORLY.. But this new AIC is awesome and its just as great as older material, i keep on thinking its Layne singing... SO COOL>>>>

  • realistically if he dont like corabi better than vince you dont like metal,

  • So don't BUY IT

    I will...

  • I love the new Alice!

  • The Hey hey chant needs to stop. other than that this is one badass song.

  • The first time i heard this song on radio, i knew who it was before i knew it was AIC. I've been a Freak since 1992 and Alice in Chains is my generation's Pink Floyd. WOW

  • This is the best of the 2 new tracks around at the moment.. I love it!

  • so do I...this song is great....it's so purely grungeeeee....an unmistakable alice in chains tune

  • Fuck off alice rule.

  • trash ???

    fuck off,

    alice are amazing

  • Thanks for posting this video: frikkin sweet perspective, and the best sound i've heard yet on an aic concert vid on youtube, Was at the Boston show at the dise last night. The whole set sounded awesome again. They do need to work on their harmonizing for this song live. All part of the joy of new material, I guess :)

  • This isn't the best footage I've ever seen but FAR above adequate! I'd love to have shot it. Anyway, I was @ the show & yours has the best sound mix (excusing your "muffles" ;). But this song sounded GREAT where I was, and this sounds really good... but another clip I watch you could barely hear Jerry but William was loud & clear as day... not so good.... They're really good, better than most, but not Alice in Chains. I miss Layne & they'll never write better songs w/o him. Just MY OPINION

  • Great video! I cannot wait for tonights show in Philly.

  • This actually the best audio/footage I have ever seen from a personal taping. Did you sneak a digital video camera in? Usually it's on a cell phone and is horrible.

  • I use a point & shoot camera that has a video function. This club is hard core about not allowing video to be taken so I had to make it look like I was taking regular still pics. All my videos were taken with this camera, the details of which are on my YouTube profile.

  • Nothing against your efforts, but what's the point of publicly uploading anything with muffled audio? It IS 2009, is it not?

  • This is good quality compared to most concert uploads. Thanks a lot!

  • I'm sorry you don't like non-pro live footage. The mix was actually how it sounds in this video with the drums way down and the vox way up. And compared to most of the concert footage people post I think it sounds pretty damn good, my camera's mic didn't even overload.

  • i'd have to concur. this is really good. i took some pretty decent video myself. check it out when you get time. kinda jealous youve gotten more views than me already lol
