Yes, Luna is a broody hen. She lives to hatch baby chicks and raise them. Out of 25 chicks I hand raised she was the only one that went broody. I did not name the babies as I found homes for the all.

Luna actually found a spot to hatch her clutch far away from all the other chickens. Actually, in one of my planters on the front porch. So yes, the rooster was away from the clutch, but I did not do it. Other clutches that have hatched here have had the rooster around. He did not bother them. If he had tried he would have been sorry. Female hens can be extremely protective of their brood.

was the rooster kept seperate from the hen and the fertile eggs?
