I'd like to hear Kirk Hammett play Matt Sotelo solos...he couldn't, all he does is use pentatonic scales and alternate pick pretty sloppy. He can't sweep or do legato or use more advanced scales like Sotelo can. And James Hetfield could not play these riffs either.

I like Metallica but their guitarists are really not that great at all, very avergae, actually even a little bit below average by metal standards. They still write great songs though.

I own all of Metallica's catalog from Kill Em All to the Black Album, it's excellent music but the solos from a technical standpoint are really very average. I mean sure Kirk can play fast, but he uses very simple runs and ideas based in the pentatonic scale. If perhaps you are judging Kirk vs. Matt Sotelo in terms of "feel", and you happen to prefer Kirks style, I can see why you would say Kirk is better. But from a technical standpoint Sotel > Hammett no comparison at all.

Death metal is some of the most complex and sophisticated styles of music out there.
