  • Today baking cookies, tomorrow enslaving mankind....

  • @dvddpr Today afraid of robots, tomorrow happy having them as slaves.

  • Rosa!!!

  • amazing cooking with robot :D

  • It looks as though it is being controlled. It doesn't look autonomous.

  • Good Video!! Nice!!

  • awesome, good video, トイレ掃除は、人間はしたがらないので…いいかも特に公衆は

  • I think that Willow Garage is an extremely inventive and patient man

  • トイレ掃除は、人間はしたがらないので…いいかも特に公衆は

  • I want that robot. How much is it?

  • Someone needs to give it the Swedish Chef Muppet's voice, then it would be "complete" ;)

  • I will need a cleaning robot afterwards.

  • That's how a robot design for car making makes cookies. No AI

  • That robot is a girl!

  • I always wondered why there was such a long time lag between movements. Is it a re-calculation thing (based on sensor input)? Otherwise it would seem easy enough to make all of the movements more fluid.

  • Whenever it uses the spatula, I feel like I'm watching the swedish chef from the Muppets

  • The cake is a lie.

  • Um, why do we need this?

  • @theAgentCarlos Because when a girl wants cookies, SOMETHING better be getting them.

  • why is there no sound

  • This... is my favorite... *-*

  • wow... okay, cool a robot can bake...

but why did he have to hi-5 it???

  • @xman2008 - hahahahaha! Your comment made me laugh so damn hard!

  • Looks like GLaDOS would have some trouble actually making a cake...

  • That spatula looks like it could be used as a lethal weapon...

  • The hat! OH! THE HAT!

  • I bet that cake was super lumpy. Don't computer engineers know you mix with a wisk? Could the robot not handle a wisk? Really? I bet it could.

  • This just demonstrates how amazingly exact and coordinated human joints and muscles really are. This robot is amazing, *especially* if this was all done autonomously.

  • They need to make him look like Beaker from the Muppets.

  • @catfoster04 No! Swedish Chef would be better!

  • Uh yessssss! This extreme representation blatantly shows how close we are to meet Robocop and Terminator 3 !!!

  • i laughed myself silly when it was slowly bringing the spatula towards the bowl to get the excess out.

  • Soon we will need no woman. Soon.

  • 0:32 xbox360

  • Impressive!

    But Im not impressed...

  • Wow, now I can know how it feels to have Rain Man cook my dinner =J

  • Only me who found that to be creepy? :o

  • That's cool they used the kinect from xbox on it.

  • "This" is what's coming out of the MIT AI right now? OK. But isn't telling a robot to locate a bowl, pick it up, and then mix the contents with a spatula pretty basic?

  • @CherryBlaster416 Nope. I am part of a robotics team at the high school level. It takes us months and months will lots of hours and manpower to make a robot that just puts balls into buckets or puts an inner tube on a hook.

  • I want to know who the asshole is that slapped a chef's hat on it.

  • Call me when it can make a sandwich... So we can start herding all the women into the desert and be done with them.

  • @777shades Great, I'm sure you'll enjoy the sausage fest

  • @777shades So you plan to have sex with other men then?

  • In the next episode of Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares....

  • Skynet steps to world conquest

Step Numb. 9244: Build a cookie making robot.

    Status: Completed.

    Next Step

Step Numb. 9245: Build a life like cute girl scout to sell said cookies to fund Skynet programs.

    Status: In Progress.

  • lol it didnt bake a cookie- it baked a big pile of eggs, butter, sugar and flour

  • whats the name of this song?

  • Better to use Japanese robots!

  • I rather hire Mexicans

    more wasted research money.

  • Today, mixing batter. Tomorrow, mixing BRAINS!!!

  • @XNinjaVampireX lol'd.

  • bet it tasted bad

  • المفروض يتعلم ينظف المكان بعد مايسوي الكوكيز

وبعدين اللي تذوق الكوكيز آخر شي باين عليه انه ماعجبه

  • That is some aggresive mixing with the spatula. Im scared, that robot can easily spatula us to death

  • whats with that oscillating mouth thing? and was it meant to look a little like rosie from the jetsons on purpose?

  • I for one welcome our new robot over-cooks.

  • hes a bit clunky

  • Cool. Now make me a fucking sandwich.

  • Very impressive. This will be a video we will show our grandkids to show that once upon a time robots had difficulty with such tasks, as opposed to the ease with which robots will do it in 50 years time because of this very research.

  • I love the fact the the camera on its head is a XBOX 360 Kinect Camera

  • MODIFYING PRIME DIRECTIVE. END COOKIE PROGRAM. START HUMAN EXTINCTION PROGRAM.

    KILL ALL HUMANS.

  • Johnny 5 is alive!

  • what no tool offsets? amateur...

  • robot will have virus and put poison in your cookies LOL

  • It will kill you someday.

  • Great!!! a 300 000$ mixer!!1 :-)d

  • @bcharlesgagne Just a joke. I like this improvements in robotics!!

  • easy bake 2.0

  • Nerds can´t cook it's a fact, they just can make a robots who cooks.

  • @pparg The robot can't cook all that good either...

  • I was expecting it to bake it in its stomach. :(

  • COOKIE PRODUCT GET

  • omg omg omg omg omg

  • LOL! That Robot didn't bake cookies but a hot mess instead.

  • Sadly, I don't think China have anything to worry about; we'll still need to use cheap foreign labour. Also, they've probably got all the research and plans on how these were made (hacked off the net) and have put some of their 6 million graduates - this year's number alone - to work on it.

  • see ladies? if a robot can do it...

  • Comment removed

  • Ho hum, wake me up when a cookie builds a robot.

  • All I can say is THE PROOF, IS IN THE PUDDING!!! of wait, these are cookies!

Also I think you need to make a robotic oven mit, as I did see the plastic sheet on the robot hand get melted due to the hear fromt he oven...

  • I for one welcome our new robot overlords!

  • That doesn't even resemble a cookie. It's a bunch of stuff dumped in a pan. You notice they don't show anything but a small edge of the finished product, and the guy can't even pick up a piece without it crumbling. It's intriguing and amusing, but I'd hardly call it baking cookies. I can do a lot better and will only charge $200,000.

  • @essbrandon The important part here is that it was programmed by students. Yeah, no one's going to be lining up for robocookies any time soon.

  • Unfortunately the robot can't eat what he made :D

  • lol! kools!

  • skynet .. >.<

  • This Early prototypes make me laugh.... Lol Also talk about spatula overkill.

  • At 0:33 you can see that on it's head is an Xbox 360 Kinect sensor :O

  • Still a better cook than Sandra Lee

  • I lol'd when it started mixing with that spatula.

  • Comment removed

  • omg what a huge mess this is lol there's a lot of work to do left!! a 8 yrs old could have done better!

  • Kind of messy.

  • I know it's impressive, but still. It couldn't have spooned the cookies onto a little baking sheet? Also, those cookies looked piss poor. Basically they just baked, they didn't spread out or anyhting, Also I didn't see you add any egg or milk, just butter.

  • congratulations PR2!!! ))))

  • Sorry, where was the part with cookies?

  • If you don't think this is impressive you're underestimating the complexity of the task. Mapping the area, finding the correct object, manipulating them within a tolerance so as not to create a gigantic mess - all incredibly difficult for a machine.

That said it does show how far we have to go before we build the machines that will eventually wage war against and destroy us.

  • @arfroot If a milling machine can mill a design to near perfection, why can't this robot gently stir ingredients gently? The programming must still be missing a few key ingredients. haha.

  • A milling machine is programmed to do a task.....this robot is 'learning' how to do a task by itself

  • mixing the butter at 0:40 was adequately terrifying

  • Is this the best that a $400000 PR2 robot is able to do, when driven by top-notch MIT students!?

    Underwhelming to say the least...

  • @kizkoool At least they're getting their money's worth out of the $150 Kinect sensor tacked onto the top of it. It is a good start for these students though, on a truly hard problem. I fear, however, that about the time these kids get into the swing of things their focus will have to turn to the narrow distractions of the thesis process and subsequent pursuit of worldly things. In another 3 years, some new kids will, at best, comprehend the papers of their predecessors and do somewhat better.
