Hey koren, I just wanted to ask you , where can I find the synthetic powder brush on that website? or maybe Im not looking for the right brush. Im not too sure, but I was looking for the powder brush with those synthetic bristles you were featuring on this vid. Thanks! xoxo
I have a Kabuki brush that came free with my Maybeline Bronzer and let me tell you what, I am shocked they are meant to be soft. That thing scratches the hell out of my face.
I tried Coastal Scents synthetics last year after watching this video. I have to admit I love Coastal scent's syn brushes. I don't like their customer services but CS products are worth the hassle.
Many Makeup Brushes are from horribly killed animal fur.
Chinchilla, fox, mink, raccoon, horse, pony, camel or goat, and china's dogs and cats hair, are so many times taken out of trapped and horrible tortures.
Millions of animals are tortured and killed for their fur.
The type of hair that brushes are made from is rarely printed so it's difficult to know what a brush is made of. Please Make an effort to know.
@EnKoreMakeup - From experience, or if you know at all, do natural kabuki brushes tend to "shed". I bought my first one and some hairs keep shedding off on my face when I apply my foundation. Are all kabuki brushes like that?
I love love ur videos, they helped me so much :-) I'm a newbie, so I'm not too familiar with costalscents, after watching several of ur videos, I was just wondering is the Italian badger series softer or is the synthetic series softer (powder n buffer brush wise) thank you :-)
@Ladycupcak3 I would definetely support this comment. I own many mac brushes but I also figured that synthetic brushes work just as well. + they don't shed as much.
thanks so much for this review! i'm always looking for synthetic brushes since i prefer them over natural hair because of my views on animal rights. i'm definitely going to buy some of these brushes
I watched your videos and have a burning question to ask. I am into mineral makeup which is often in loose form and wonder which is the most ideal brush bristles to use - Synthetic or Natural?
I can't find the Foundation brush u show...the badger looking one @ 4:12...I assume its coastal Scents...yet i can't find that one...All i see 2 of them...and the bristles are orange like..on the one..And the other is Synthetic Concealer Shading brush...which i assume is much smaller than that one...It looks similar..
Can u please answer this..and tell me where the Foundation one is please at CS
I hope people realize there not lame if they don't own MAC brushes, A lot of brushes that arent animal fur work just the same :) without having the guilt, like i would lol :(
thank you!! finally, someone with my same opinion. why buy mac brushes? there expensive, and cruel. there are plenty of synthetic brushes out there that are just as good as natural hair brushes. plus, synthetic ones dont carry as much bacteria as natural hair brushes. and they dont soak up as much product, so you dont have to use as much. go synthetic! :)
Wow those look identical to my sephora anti-bacterial brushes. :0 i'm just glad i didn't purchase it [my sister found them] cuz one of the sephora ones are $32 just for a brush and this is so much cheaper- i'm def. going to get the flat buffer kabuki brush.
From my experience, synthetic ones are non-shed. soft, and don't pack up with lots of products.
natural hair ones shed, because natural hair is easy to get damaged and break, they aren't that soft either. and they also eat up a lot of product. I have always been using synthetic ones, they aren't cheap either.
Hi Koren...all of your video's are so informative and you are very knowledgeable...i have a question and would love your advice...im not much of a makeup person. i recently got interested because of a girlfriend of mine. Anyway, i really just want some everyday coverage. I have 2 kids and i have to get them ready and then hardly have time to get myself ready..so what i am asking...what would you recommend as far as what i should use everyday..i just want to look cute while wiping babybutt LOL
i like your vids esp this one since i'm looking for synthetic brushes. I'm very new to make up and most of ur videos are real help to me, thank you so much! i dont know if you've heard this but urban decay has synthetic brushes as well, i found out in their website. i haven't check out the brushes yet. If you have check them out, i would really love to hear your review on those brushes. THANKS!!!
I got the angeled brush it broke even befor I got to use it,broke after washing it and laying it flat.I still love it it makes contouring easy. The company never explained why they could not replace it,coastal scents is usualy excellent with their customer service,so I"m not sure what was going on.
i cant find the ultimate powder brush on the website!! :( ahhh- i am so in love with it and want it so bad. has is been discontinued or something?? :( :( :(
Don't know if you've heard of these, the Eco Tools brushes that you can get at Walgreens, Rite Aid, etc. They are synthetic and soft as all get out. I haven't tried the Coastal Scents but I am amazed at how soft these are and the reviews I've seen are incredible. I know you really like to use creams with synthetic brushes. My question is, when using synthetic brushes with powder, do you find that they pick up less product?
I was just wondering what you think are the most essential brushes to own if your just starting to get into makeup? I really liked the way you explained what a good brush should do but I'm still working on trying to build the right collection.
Just a question, do YOU actually use any of these brushes? I mean, would you bump a mac brush for any of these? lol I'm definitely going to buy some of these, but I was just curious! =)
yes, i use synthetic only on any cream products, whether foundation, blush, or eyeshadows. You dont want natural bristles on creams, so this is where synthetics comes in great help.
iwant to know if it is good to wash foundation brush every day???? cause i use it to apply moisturizer on and i dont want it to collect bacteria.... by th way my brush is from estee lauder
I hope its not too stupid question, but can I use synthetic kabuki to apply liquid foundation (instead of classic foundation brush), and wich would be better the flat one or the normal kabuki from this video?
do you think you could do a video on what the brushes are for as im new to makeup and just bought 18 brushes and i have no idea what the uses are for..
darrrrlingg koren, love your vids, came across this, and am very new to makeup and so i'm rushing to collect. i want everything all at once and want something in a set and are great. I saw urban decay with their big buddha set, can you recommend anything like that?
Thank you for this video, it was wonderful as are all yours! Do you have a rec for a coastal scents brush that is like the now discontinued MAC 180 brush?
Also, what real difference does it make having a domed vs. a flat-top biffer/kabuki brush?
hey anyara - I havent seen a dupe for the MAC 180 - I guess its really just that door-knob handle that makes it unique. Otherwise, its really just a flat top buffer brush. I have a video on Domed bs Flat top - and the diff mainly is the coverage you want. Flat top packs on color with less ease, Domed you can start light, then build to fuller coverage.
one of my best friends/colleague uses all Body Shop brushes and she swears by them. The problem I have is the shape of the handle. It WIDENS towards the end, and half of the brushes doesnt fit in my Brush Belt orBrush roll because of the wide base.
hai, EnKore, i had checked out the cs website and there's lot brushes to choose, can you kindly recomend which basic essential brushes from cs that i need to get to start up?
hey TQ - yes there are a lot of brushes. I suggest start with the ones you use daily or often - like foundation, eyeshadow, eyeliner, etc. And then just base that on the brushes I showed in my coastal scents videos. (there a couple more on pink series).
Enkore thank you so much, I'm waiting until the black duo stippling fibre brush is back in stock but WOW, I checked other options and I only have to pay $4 dollars in shipping!
You're a lifesaver, I'll continue watching you! :) you go!
hey niky - i heard from those who ordered from Canada that the best shipping is to select the First Class International. They ship by weight too, so depends on how much stuff you ordered. Any way, try selecting that shipping option and see how much difference it would be.
hello koren, so i totally love synthetic brushes (i use Everyday Minerals brushes) but i wanted to ask if there was a way to make a cover/wrap for the brushes so the hairs won't flair out. when you first buy them, they come in that thin plastic sleeve, but those sleeves don't last very long + get dirty after a few days :( since you are a makeup GENIUS + amazing with your 'living w/makeup' creations, is there any way you can create a brush cover to protect the hairs?!
hey koren. thank you so much for these wonderful videos. I am learning so much. Do you ever plan on offering classes on makeup and tips in the future? id love to attend and learn as much as i can from u.
hey eri - you can do quick clean every other day, or every use. then just do a deep clean once a week. I have videos on quick cleaning and deep cleaning brushes. Look it up and i hope that helps.
I splurged on a mac 187, and I loved it at first, but I keep noticing that my makeup looks cakey and splotchy, no matter how little I use, or which primer...I think I might try synthetic maybe they will work better, or maybe I am doing it wrong still?!
I love all your videos, you are the greatest ever. and I also love your personality. keep on posting videos please you have helped me so much with my makeup. I was a mess before watching ur videos, but now thanks 2 u I feel more confident with my makeup. thanks again cutie.
the hairs are shaven, so the animals are not killed to make brushes. Much like shaving wool from sheeps. Most common natural bristles are Goat Hair, Camel Hair, Squirrel, Badger.
oh and yeah one more thing, which kabuki brushes would you recommend for sensitive skin? i'm thinking about the ultimate italian badger kabuki brush but i'm not sure if they are soft yet dense to pick up on mineral foundation? are they also good on creamy foundation? and what is the kabuki really use for? is it to even out the make up? thanks again!
oh yes fts! definitely the italian badger kabuki. Its super nice. I wouldnt use natural fibers on cream foundations tho - so look into the SYNTHETIC Kabuki for that if you like using buffer brushes for your cream foundation.
thanks koren! i ordered my 15 set already and its on the way! yay! i'll be buying the synthetic kabuki soon thanks for the tip! you are really awesome! your videos rock!
hey koren! i am glad i found you here in youtube..all your videos are really helpful! anyways, i haven't really thought about make up brushes before but now i am planning to buy sets from coastalscents but i'm hesitating between the 15C and 13C...cuz i want something that could work for both (creamy or powder makeups) cuz i use either one and sometimes it depends on my days..i just don't want to spend so much on buying each brushes if i could save more on buying the sets...thank you!
Hi Koren! I was wondering which brush set you would recommend between the 15PC and the 13PC from coastal scents. Which set do you think is more useful for everyday use? THANKS SO MUCH!
Hey Koren!! i was wondering if you could compare the Synthetic Angle Blush and define brush to the large mac 168 at all?? How do they compare in size?
hey Jen - depending on what you will be using it for. The 187 is a wider brush, great for powders, skin finishing, foundation application. The 188 is the baby version, great for applying blush, contour powders, for narrower parts of the face.
hey tobi - its really great for cream concealers. definitely check it out if youre looking for a good concealer brush. It works great on eyeshadow primers too.
Depending on the use, you will get more coverage on the flat-tops as they are more dense. If you just want light to buildable converage then a regular kabuki is great.
hey Korisuisho - what kind of foundation do you use? If you're a liquid user, go for the stippler. If you use cream, go for the synthetic Foundation brush - also the matching concealer brush is nice.
hey koren.... i am just starting in makeup and i wanted to know which brushes i should get for face brushes.... i want a kabuki brush but i didn't know which one to get. pls help me! thankies:)
Hey Koren, um their similar to the kabuki brushes but flat on the top, you where reviewing them and you called them "wide buffer brushes or flat top buffer brushes" i suppose, their like 14.95 like you said, but i just cant seem to find them around. At 3.25 you are talking about them. I absolutely love them, and i want to buy one.
you were right...I was cringing the whole time she was washing her brushes...she is definitely brutal. I know she was doing a review, but from what I know, you're not supposed to get the handles wet as much as possible to prevent the wood from warping...hmm, what's your take on this!

@pinkrazor80 it's something like deluxe synthetic brush. they have a travel set of that too.
Also, you can look up Crown brushes just to double check as that's where Costal Scents got their brushes.

Do you know if the Body Shop brushes are any good?
arebelangel 3 years ago
one of my best friends/colleague uses all Body Shop brushes and she swears by them.

TQ............
78ajt 3 years ago
hey TQ - yes there are a lot of brushes. I suggest start with the ones you use daily or often - like foundation, eyeshadow, eyeliner, etc. And then just base that on the brushes I showed in my coastal scents videos. (there a couple more on pink series).
EnKoreMakeup 3 years ago
Enkore thank you so much, I'm waiting until the black duo stippling fibre brush is back in stock but WOW, I checked other options and I only have to pay $4 dollars in shipping!
You're a lifesaver, I'll continue watching you! :) you go!
nikyweee 3 years ago
how come to ship to canada from coastal scents it costs $30? ITS NOT FAIR!!
nikyweee 3 years ago
hey niky - i heard from those who ordered from Canada that the best shipping is to select the First Class International. They ship by weight too, so depends on how much stuff you ordered. Any way, try selecting that shipping option and see how much difference it would be.

hello koren, so i totally love synthetic brushes (i use Everyday Minerals brushes) but i wanted to ask if there was a way to make a cover/wrap for the brushes so the hairs won't flair out. when you first buy them, they come in that thin plastic sleeve, but those sleeves don't last very long + get dirty after a few days :( since you are a makeup GENIUS + amazing with your 'living w/makeup' creations, is there any way you can create a brush cover to protect the hairs?!

hey enkore..i was wondering if you know anything about posh brushes? just curious =]

hey koren. thank you so much for these wonderful videos. I am learning so much. Do you ever plan on offering classes on makeup and tips in the future? id love to attend and learn as much as i can from u.
missjudy717 3 years ago
one of the questions i've been meaning to ask you is how is the make up from coastal scents?
as i wouldn't mind stocking up if the quality is as good as the brushes!
0insaneinthemembrane 3 years ago
they are actually pretty good. Mostly mineralized.
EnKoreMakeup 3 years ago
thanks for the advice, it is SOO helpful as i have been having trouble with my goat hair brushes, and coastal scents is FAB! love it!

hi thanks foe the information that you bring us, have a question how often do you have to clean your brushes thanks
eri9390 3 years ago
hey eri - you can do quick clean every other day, or every use. then just do a deep clean once a week. I have videos on quick cleaning and deep cleaning brushes. Look it up and i hope that helps.

I splurged on a mac 187, and I loved it at first, but I keep noticing that my makeup looks cakey and splotchy, no matter how little I use, or which primer...I think I might try synthetic maybe they will work better, or maybe I am doing it wrong still?!

hey i was just wondering what animals' fur is used to make brushes? i'm very concious about animal rights so i was just wondering. thanks!
gobutterfly 3 years ago
the hairs are shaven, so the animals are not killed to make brushes. Much like shaving wool from sheeps. Most common natural bristles are Goat Hair, Camel Hair, Squirrel, Badger.

Hey Koren,
I hope thats how you spell it...I was just wondering what your background is?
BabeXStrawberries 3 years ago
oh and yeah one more thing, which kabuki brushes would you recommend for sensitive skin? i'm thinking about the ultimate italian badger kabuki brush but i'm not sure if they are soft yet dense to pick up on mineral foundation? are they also good on creamy foundation? and what is the kabuki really use for? is it to even out the make up? thanks again!
ftsbeb30 3 years ago
oh yes fts! definitely the italian badger kabuki. Its super nice. I wouldnt use natural fibers on cream foundations tho - so look into the SYNTHETIC Kabuki for that if you like using buffer brushes for your cream foundation.
EnKoreMakeup 3 years ago
thanks koren! i ordered my 15 set already and its on the way! yay! i'll be buying the synthetic kabuki soon thanks for the tip! you are really awesome! your videos rock!
ftsbeb30 3 years ago
hey koren! i am glad i found you here in youtube..all your videos are really helpful! anyways, i haven't really thought about make up brushes before but now i am planning to buy sets from coastalscents but i'm hesitating between the 15C and 13C...cuz i want something that could work for both (creamy or powder makeups) cuz i use either one and sometimes it depends on my days..i just don't want to spend so much on buying each brushes if i could save more on buying the sets...thank you!
ftsbeb30 3 years ago
go for the 15-piece
EnKoreMakeup 3 years ago
Hi Koren! I was wondering which brush set you would recommend between the 15PC and the 13PC from coastal scents. Which set do you think is more useful for everyday use? THANKS SO MUCH!
zhan703 3 years ago
hey Zhan - somehow, the 15-piece is better.

Hey Koren!! i was wondering if you could compare the Synthetic Angle Blush and define brush to the large mac 168 at all?? How do they compare in size?
iTSxxBEllA 3 years ago
its the same size
EnKoreMakeup 3 years ago
EnKore you must have hundreds of brushes!
(:

hey enkore..
i have a question that's been REALLY bugging me..and i'm hoping that you can answer it..
which brush is better..the mac 188 or mac 187??
jenxoxo09 3 years ago
hey Jen - depending on what you will be using it for. The 187 is a wider brush, great for powders, skin finishing, foundation application. The 188 is the baby version, great for applying blush, contour powders, for narrower parts of the face.
EnKoreMakeup 3 years ago
hi, i love all your videos. i was just wondering what your thoughts were on Coastal Scents' synthetic concealer shading brush. XO.
tobi888888 3 years ago
hey tobi - its really great for cream concealers. definitely check it out if youre looking for a good concealer brush. It works great on eyeshadow primers too.
EnKoreMakeup 3 years ago
cool, thanks just looking for my sisters birthday present. she uses mineral makeup and concealer, so do you think it is good for that. thanks heapa.
tobi888888 3 years ago
hey tobi - yeah definitely! oh, your sister will be thrilled.

Hey Koren, you and pursebuzz what a great colab. tuts on syntethic brushes... thank you both...¡¡
normaceci77 3 years ago
would you recomend the flat top kabuki or the regular kabuki? or would you recommend the italian badger kabuki? pls tell me which kabuki to use
sunnyjenny422 3 years ago
hey sunny - I love the Italian Badger Kabuki!
Depending on the use, you will get more coverage on the flat-tops as they are more dense. If you just want light to buildable converage then a regular kabuki is great.
EnKoreMakeup 3 years ago
i just got my brushes and i love love love them =) and i totally saved a whole lot since i'm just starting out =) thanks for finding this website!!!
missguiang 3 years ago
Opps.. one more option for the post just below..
How about the Italian Badger Foundation Concealer Brush - $3.79
korisuisho 3 years ago
Hi Koren,
May I kindly check with you on which you do you suggest from Coastal Scents on the brush for foundation?
The Foundation Concealer Brush Large - $3.99 or the Synthetic Foundation Brush - $7.49
Or the Stippling one?
korisuisho 3 years ago
hey Korisuisho - what kind of foundation do you use? If you're a liquid user, go for the stippler. If you use cream, go for the synthetic Foundation brush - also the matching concealer brush is nice.

hey koren, where can i get the wide buffer brushes, i cant seem to find them any where, do u know about any website that may carry them! thanks
Ayeshachaudhary 3 years ago
hey Ayes- not sure what you mean, which wide buffer brush?
EnKoreMakeup 3 years ago
Hey Koren, um their similar to the kabuki brushes but flat on the top, you where reviewing them and you called them "wide buffer brushes or flat top buffer brushes" i suppose, their like 14.95 like you said, but i just cant seem to find them around. At 3.25 you are talking about them. I absolutely love them, and i want to buy one.
Ayeshachaudhary 3 years ago
Oh! hahah ok - all these brushes are available at coastalscents (dot) com. In their brushes page.
EnKoreMakeup 3 years ago
thank you :)
Ayeshachaudhary 3 years ago
you were right...I was cringing the whole time she was washing her brushes...she is definitely brutal. I know she was doing a review, but from what I know, you're not supposed to get the handles wet as much as possible to prevent the wood from warping...hmm, what's your take on this!
