I see crappy pet stores all the time! Thankfully the local one has two vet tech students working there, and they know their stuff. Unfortonatly, people here think that pets are disposable and would rather come in and get cheap things that they think will last forever, instead of providing for their pet properly. My favorite still, when the pet stores house their pets improperly and then tell owners how to do it right, instead of showing them
Petstores sometimes offer their employees commission for talking customers into buying more items, needed or not. While I give praise to petstores that tell you what you need and what you DON'T, I hate those that just sit and rattle off things that you - and your pet - could easily do without. That's one point I can easily identify with from SunshineMAGG0T. I never take information from petstores without researching it myself, also.
I got kicked out of a pet store once for talking these people who were buying geckos out of purchasing all this useless crap. drinking sponges, clay dishes , coconut husk, stacked flat rocks. Unbelievable what the pet store clerks where talking these people into!
I get almost all my stuff from garden centers, and I collect and clean all my own rocks and sticks. It's amazing how much money you can save if you just put a little effort in.
That's one reason why I buy crix from Fluker's. That and twice they sprinkle that darned calcium powder which isn't good for my tarantulas. I don't see many rant videos from people in this hobby. I like to hear others experiences in the hobby.
Though i can't identify with everything you've said here (i'm not particularly into that sort of stuff)... I liked the vid and think you should definitely do more. Good stuff.
Hey man, good video. I hate most pet stores, went to one in Rhyl (North Wales) called the living rainforest, and it was absolute shite! All good setups and all that, but they didn't know diddly shit about tarantulas. They didn't even know what a green bottle blue was!
I looked at an avic that had a fucked up toe (so i didn't buy it) and they had a blondi that had a fang hooked over its pedipalp and looked seriously injured. Most petstores suck! And now pets at home sell reptiles, sad times!
nice video buddy and you are so right man like every time I go to a pet store wanting to buy like one T or something they always try to sell me something that I don't want or I don't need at all man I wish they so didn't do that like I wish they knew more to like not even try to sell me stuff that I don't even need at all like I wish I could just go there and get what I want and what I need and not what they think I need cause they want to make more money.
i live in australia (state victoria) and i got my bearded dragon from this awesome pet store called "victorian reptiles" and they pretty much know every about reptiles. they have got a bunch of really experienced people working there! and they dont ask any questions you just go in and buy :)
I know lol i aint saying there aren't "good" reptile shops but the majority or mainstream stores i have been to the staff have no clue about the animals, they just try to make a quick buck off of your in-experience...
yea i know, some independent reptile/invert shops do tend to help you a lot more and actually know what they are talking about...but i was really talking about the mainstream pet stores, that have no clue on what care & needs certain exotic pets need.
LOL pet stores do suck, trying to make money... they told me that leopard geckos need UVB and they said that they are from rain forests... like what?! haha
The local pet stores around here don't like me too much. Every time I hear customers asking about possible new pets, I rudely take over/interject telling them everything I know about the particular animal (I've owned most pet store animals at one time or another).
