He's got a good voice... unfortunately it's just a bad song choice for his voice. This song requires a more meatier voice type. More towards the dramatic style rather than his bright, lighter style.
This is a very hard song to sing, and I think this performance was beautiful. The original is the original, so I think it's unfair to be comparing one with the other. A one take live performance it's another thing, and I think he is really good....
very sweet I found it weak I couldn't her anyemotion and the big cheesy smile rather unfitting considering he's singing about being locked away for all of his life i doubt it would give anyone a case of the jollies
He's a little too smiley, and the song is supposed to be like... hm. Hopeful, dreamy-like. I think he has a beautiful voice, very Disney-like if you don't watch the video and just watch. But personally, I think it would have been more meaningful if there was more instrumentals in the background.
And if you wanna get back at me to say I'm one of you who is just sitting at home and think they can come back at me with something for sticking up for my friend... I happend to do the same tour last season and I was just in it. I think you all need to swollow the shit you talk. Get em' A-RO!
You know what's funny hahaha... That to all you people who sit here and pick apart his performance... Is that you're sitting at home watching videos like his while he is on the Road on a National Tour right now getting paid to do what you all so seem to think he isn't good at... hahahaha just giving you all some food for thought.
Ok - you need balls to sing this song. They get cut off at the end, but you need them to begin with. There's just something lacking in this performance.
I'm not criticizing. You are, idiot. So he didn't do as good as you think he should have. So what? You don't have to say some demeaning, ignorant comment about his sexuality. In this day and age- making fun of someone for speaking or acting feminine only makes YOU look like a total ignorant fuck face. Get a life and stop making fun of people for things they can't control, ass.
Making a derogatory statement about ones sexuality is not right ,however, as a Music Theatre student, I learned it is important for a man to be able to play a masculine man on stage. Off stage you can do what ever you want however its is called acting, you have to act the part. Unless the part calls for feminine qualities then one should not portray.
and on stage as an actor ones intention body language and specific energy CAN be controlled. So yes it is wrong to be demeaning but while performing a specific role or piece feminine demeanor is not necessary or appreciated unless it is character choice.
Yes, but the point is he's NOT acting. He's simply singing a song. He's not in a play, and he's not in character. There for, there is no need to criticize his sexuality.
He's missing a lot of chest resonance with his belting that makes it sound young and almost immature. beautiful voice, but the yearning is missing for this song. Huge potential though.
The song Out there is a song about yearning... and you sing this song too sweet. I don't hear the yearning in your voice. You should belt it out of your toes!
Nevertheless, great voice, great control, but I don't feel it.
You got the makings of greatness in you, but you got to take the helm and chart your own course. Stick to it, no matter the squalls! And when the time comes you get the chance to really test the cut of your sails, and show what you're made of! Well, I hope I'm there, catching some of the light coming off you that day.
he has a great voice but honestly he sounds kinda like a dinky little middle school kid at points. This song needs at least a LITTLE bit of edge, I mean just look at the lyrics, and you can tell he has like none of that because he's annunciating EVERYTHING up the ass. Also, not meaning ANY prejudice or anything, but he seems like a girl, and this is a man's song. All of that said, he's got a great voice, but I would try and toughen up and lose a little diction.
This one satisfied my standard for this song and believe me my standard is really high. He has a more mellow version of Out There though but very pleasant to the ear and the EYES.
What a beautiful voice. Honestly, I hate watching performances on youtube that aren't well-known performers, but this was absolutely awesome. Ok, not as powerful in some places as it could have been, but excellent technique and control, especially on the higher notes.
i agree, this isnt the style he should be singing. its good, dont get me wrong. but this song needs a big voice. like ENORMOUS. of course you know the story of the Hunchback of Notre Dame, and this is a huge moment for him...yeah whoever performs this song needs to full voice the parts that need to be! especially the end! :D nice job though.
Another brilliant performance but i must agree with bloominrock, out there is jampacked with crecendos, diminuendos and the style you've chosen reminds me of a ballet style, but still beautiful tone and technique AMAZING!!!
Yeah, I think so too. O__O'' but still, maybe it was meant to be more sensual, seeing as everyone's eating. O__O'' I love his voice though, it's so soft and nice on the ears, but someone who can really put power and projection behind their voice would definitely be better suited for this. I LOVE THE ORIGINAL THOUGH.
...amazing. You have a WONDERFUL voice, and Disney should seriously look into using you as a voice actor for the next Disney musical. You obviously have a love for Disney, and you've got the voice to boot! GREAT work! (Not many can pull this song off, but you sure did!)
You have such a beautiful voice, you shouldn't wait until the second half of the song to push out what you've got. GIVE IT BOY! MAKE THE BEAUTY OF YOUR VOICE ECHO IN THE HALLS OF EVERY THEATRE YOU SING IN!!
Wow, that was really good! I'm very impressed, shame there couldn't have been full-on orchestra, that would have really made it fab! Congrats, you actually sound very similar to Tom Hulce - what a compliment ;)
(to go with my first comment) i remember the first time i heard alan sing this song right after he wrote it and he was presenting it to roy, and it was awesome, and the comments i gave you are what he usually tells people, but overall this was really great and a career in the musical theatre is in store for you, just keep studying.
definetly a great rendition, work a little more on your shading of the piece dynamics wise, and don't widen your mouth on upper notes, drop your jaw, and but some BASS in your voice on the upper notes, becuase you sound much younger than you obviously are, and adding that somewhat...(for lack of a better word) manliness to your voice, not to say that is isn't, will make it sound even better.
He's got a good voice... unfortunately it's just a bad song choice for his voice. This song requires a more meatier voice type. More towards the dramatic style rather than his bright, lighter style.
