I Think a lot of people forget tht he was the world heavyweight champion..Agreat embassador for this country, and a good role model. and a very decent man.
@imran78 Any interview with Frank, is great viewing. So much charisma and personality
sucha good genuine man. I Believe Frank wanted to be world champion more for his country then for himself. The word great is used to easily, Frank was up there with the best of them.. Its franks humour to call every1 boss, as for the ignorant people calling him [Uncle Tom] wotever that mean's skin colour, or race Frank's the same with everybody.More Frank Bruno's in the world it would be a nicer place
frank is the man he has a lot of dignity. he works with the kids last i heard inspiring them to simply, "Be a leader, not a follower." young people get so many mixed messages from everywhere good and bad, but what frank is all about is so simple and easy to remember, not to mention the potential good its doing. frank is greater outside the ring than in it i believe, and he could be very great in there, too.
He made a career out of fighting nobodies! he was crap, it was such a joke that the comedians at the time used to joke about how all his fighters are hand picked, what big name did he beat?
@kevcarspray A career out of fighting nobodies? He fought 6 world champions, challenging for the title 4 times. At the top level, yeah, he came up short but he by no means was a protected fighter.
He fought for the world title 4 times finally getting one from McCall, the man who had just beat Lewis.
To say the fighters he fought were handpicked is hilarious. He handpicked Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis, McCall, Smith, Witherspoon...
@DeLunny Just because he fought champions, doesn't make him good! Next your going to say Audlery Harrison is good because he fought Haye!?
OK, Bruno won the McCall fight, and McCall was very good when he beat Lewis, but when he fought Bruno he was walking into the ring crying, the guy was a psychological mess, he has since been sectioned. Also in that fight Bruno "Hung on" for 12 rounds, just leaning on McCall. Watch the fight on youtube, you can't honestly say Bruno "out boxed" McCall
@kevcarspray I'm not saying Bruno was anything amazing, just that it's unfair to call him crap and say he handpicked his fights. He was a very decent fighter who was just below world level.
McCall used to cry a lot before fights, I agree he was a mess but he was still a decent enough boxer and Bruno had to work hard to beat him.
No-one's claiming Bruno was one of the best but he was a very likeable guy that many people could relate to and hegave it a go, hence the popularity.
@DeLunny I Agree with you. Mc.Call was a tough cookie, a hard man to break down. It was Frank's 4th atempt at the championship, pushing 34 he knew it was the last throw of the dice.I Believe he wanted it more for his country than himself...The history books will have to say that Frank Bruno was British heavyweight champion of the world..
Frank Bruno was never gay lol thats Just his sense of humour. He was never an uncle tom either no matter what his haters say ! Frank Bruno is a legend !!!!!
