I have to disagree with Francesca on one thing. 2:30 She said,
"Anyone can become disabled and that's why we need to fight these reforms."
.
Erm, surely the reason to fight the reforms regarding disability is because you care about other people... not simply because you care about what can happen to yourself.
what we just saw there was fascism. nothing less nothing more. pure unadulterated fascist conceptualization aimed at the vulnerable in society.
they were shitting themselves because they know what they are doing but they try to hide their despicable natures in rhetoric. Francesca was bloody brilliant at showing their lack of humanity for what it was and for once - we have someone not playing the divide and conquer game which is always their emergency card. This was heartening to watch.
Francesca is totally marvellous, she left Andrew Neil and Portillo in shock. they tried so hard to undermine her. What an incredibly intelligent lady !!!
Is it not true that money spent on the disabled will just go back into the economy anyway, and will stimulate growth and create worth while jobs. These cuts seem completely counter intuitive to me, just designed to reduce public spending for the interest of big business. All they're doing is moving the deficit on to the people who are least able to stand up for themselves, the poor/disabled/young. We need to work together.
She was rubbish. She put words in Portillo's mouth that he didn't even say. All she could do was repeat some tired old rhetoric...lines that she'd clearly practised before she went on...regardless of whether they bore any any relevance to the discussion that actually took place. They didn't.
Contrary to public perception, the UK is definitely not a generous country for giving benefits to those who need them. There is evidence to destroy the notion of UK welfare goodness.
Way to go Francesca, very cogent and a corner extremely well fought!!
Portillo *admits* to parties fudging the numbers regarding unemployment by moving the long-term unemployed to the "disabled pile". Surely the gov't would want to investigate this at least as closely as my genuine need for a wheelchair? Still waiting on arrests in the mortgage banking sector, by the way...
Man old portillo in ivory castle ,all this negative rhetoric from the government has made the default attitude towards disabled people one of their all a bunch of spongers ,it makes me sick ,and if they carry on scapegoating the sick and not dealing with the real crooks and miss managing the economy is only digging a deeper hole .
@ExistentialQuestions sorry it was a bit rushed and i'm dyslexic ,how about dealing with the substantive issue rather than bitching about my typing skills .bit petty me thinks .
@woofalot13 If you are truly dyslexic then I apologise. What do you want me to say? If people who voted for the Tories couldn't see these kind of cuts coming then more fool them. Let's hope the Spartacus report continues to have such a positive impact.

It wasn't that long ago that I heard the good gentleman above promoting the abolishment of "handouts" to the "economically inactive".
