gosh i love how she sings this song....it's truly heartbreaking from th first word, which is something i just haven't gotten from any other cover, personally
There is no Maybe about it! These girls were and are amazing. This is classic music, that will forever be in the hearts of those who lived through Rock and Roll as it unfolded and cherished by those who have had the pleasure of parents who liked to party and let us listen to all the music that changed them &touched them.
@PAINTBALL55 Heard John Frusciante singing this on a RHCP concert dvd, been obsessed on trying to find it ever since, and when i heard it on mafia 2.. :D :D :D
You can't compare Janis with Arlene. They both did a fantastic song but completely different. It makes it clear...this is a GREAT composition. The version of Arlene is awsome...we can say the same about Janis.I love them both! Those were the days we had genuine femalesingers!
Its too Bad it's Not Recognized in Black History how Slavery was Overturned by The..... Republicans!! The Democratic party is always more interested in Personal Power THAN Freedom And Absolute Power over others is what Slavery was Built on. The earlier revolt centered around a single issue Slavery, and today's revolves around an Entire governing philosophy.
Let's hope the OUR U.S.of A. can Free itself and our Children from Economic Slavery This Time Around.... Tick-Tock, Remember November 2nd!
Man, does this bring back some memories! What a great era for music, we went from Rythem and Blues to Rock and Roll, Thanks to Chuck Berry, Elvis Presely, Fats Domino and many others. Music like this stirs my Soul!
Such a coincidence!! or may I say.. fate!! I didn't knew this band or song either and I found this video by accident, when I was watching a Skyliners video... And my girlfriend's name is Chantelle.. actually we kinda broke up.. and now that she's gone I got myself in these lyrics situation :(
No other girl group topped the Chantels back then even though I liked, the Shirells,Vandelas, and the Marvelettes. Along came the 3 Degrees. These girls also really harmonized.
Just listened to the John frusciantes version and he has the falsetto voice but the lead for the Chantels has a wider range and the piano and other backup music makes this a homerun, in my estimation.
Makes me sick that we don't hear this kind of music anymore. Does anybody know if this was one of Phil Specters arrangements ? Went to a Birthday party last night and the host (30 something young guy) played this song and I just had to DL and put it on my play list.
Great music and the piano does make chills go up your spine
Thanks for telling us old school music lovers that we have class. My son started listening to this type of music because he heard me listening to it, he is in his 30's and he loves it.
@bruceapardue Maybe was produced by the father of rock and roll, George Goldner. Phil Spector once said:"Without George there would be no rock and rolll". Goldner co-wrote and produced "Why Do Fools Fall in Love," for Frankie Lymon and The Teenagers, founded Roulette Records, and many other labels, recorded songs for the Crows, the Cleftones, the Flamingos, the Dubs, the Shangri-Las, The Cookies etc. He was a genius
Seems to me that Frusciante's version was as a party piece and not even a full version, cut short with an embarrassed "thank you !"

It's awesome but sincerely I prefer the Joplin version, she have more soul, more sadness. But the original tune is great too
