Doug Marland sure knew how to write 'em! I was 15 when this episode aired and I remember it was during the summer that ATWT, along with other soaps, was pre-empted a lot because of the Iran-Contra hearings. So glad this one survived! ♥
Gawd, I remember these scenes like it was yesterday! I remember racing home from school (7th grade) to watch this show on my VCR. Those were the days when soaps really were must see tv and there was actually love in the afternoon.
Every once in a while I'll sample this show today. These older clips continually remind me of how bad daytime is now. Everything today is written so mildly. Characters stand around for days now talking blah, blah, blah, about absolutely nothing. World Turns has 2 million viewers a day now. Back here they drew in 3times that amount -- a million + more than the top show today. I think that says it all folks...
My God this show was TOPS then and has daytime best series emmys to prove it. The Douglas Marland years were extreme. Such full blown, emotional stories. Not only was each episode must see -- each SCENE was must see. Viewers today just don't have a clue what GOOD DAYTIME DRAMA is!!
William Fichtner is in all kinds of stuff now. This is the part that started his career. From Prision Break, to Armegeddon, to the Dark Knight to the short lived Invasion, he is a GREAT actor
@krystlerita yea, CBS decided to do an edit to the theme. Not only was the wrong remix used for the theme, since 1987, we still had the orchestra mix of the theme, but they edited out Region's voice, and put in Colleen Zenk's (Barbara Ryan). During this time from 1998-1999, cast members said the title of the show after Region was fired.
For Oakdalian and others who would like to know, I just relearned from David J's ClassicATWT website (which hasn't been updated since 2003, I don't think David J is working on it anymore): This episode originally aired on June 24, 1987.

Odd hearing a woman as the V/O announcer
I'm used to hearing Dan Region's voice of God as the announcer

That's Colleen Zenk, who plays Barbara.
