If you reduce the diameter later on maybe 15mm this means a speed of ca. 550 m/s on a 40g projectile, with same measurement of detonation camber and shaft....
and keep well distance. and a remote controled ignition would be very wise...
couldn't you use PVC glue on the back end you make the cap stay on and never come off? i would probably launch farther also because there would be more pressure pushing out the front of the barrel.
eh.. using such a poorly built combustion chamber on the ground was questionable but holding the thing on your shoulder => not very wise. you should be using at least a single layer of sch. 80 for the ground with a very secure SINGLE PIECE end cap. if you insist on holding the thing, you need a multi-layer sch. 80 pvc beast... or you could build it out of cast iron and not have anything to worry about :)
this was a demonstration round, there was no projectile. Our second vid shows us shooting another bottle out. We did cover the back of the pipe, but it just kept ripping it apart. I plan on making a new cannon soon, and using some heavy duty 2-part glues to help hold it together..
Actually we have thought about it, But havn't had the chance to try it. What I'm afraid of is the explosive round going off before the propellant round... basically lots of water shooting out and no shot. But I'll try it as soon as I have the time...
damn lol dry ice is the easy part getting the pvc pipe is the hard part. dry ice you can get at stores but djphibes why did you say maby we need to heat the water more yall heat the water up? or what/
We used warm water, It reacted faster. Normal temp tap water takes like 3x longer to "react" than hot water... The second vid does a better job of showing how fast the "reaction" takes place. sometimes in just 5 seconds..
put a canister of airsoft pellets and watch it go!!

you should devenitly be using a steel pipe and weld a cap on the end. but you should be aware of the power.
a thick PVC bottle can devellop a pressure of ca. 22 bar.
in a pipe (7cm diarmeter) this produces a acelaration to ca. 225 m/s in a 60cm long shaft
means a kin. enery of 2500 J for a 100g projectil.
this is about the energy of a NATO armo...

yeah or use steel pipe with a threaded end, apply glue to the threads, and put on an end cap.

You must really know what you're talking about. Great suggestions.

u can solve that problem by loading a dry ice bottle with warm water first, followed by one with cold water. that way the propellant explodes first

Very good point. Hopefully that second round would blow before contact with the ground.... or at impact :-D
