  • i always like that mount in a bus 4 a radio

  • you forget a vaccuum line?

  • wow i never thought buses could be that much trouble! hey kaioshi, got anymore school bus videos? i literally love school buses!!!

  • @MuffinMarley192 Yup, check out my video page for more buses.

  • Engines doesnt sound too bad and replying to that other ? They used TBI on the 366 V8 Something in the carb may be hanging up

  • Do you know if the newer gmc 6000's and the topkick series with the 366 V8 are TBI Throttle Body injected?

  • @4751424 Well, I know they made the switch from carb to fuel injection in 1987 / 1988. But don't know what kind of fuel injection they used. Maybe someone else knows?

  • @kaiyoshi2243 Could it have been throttle-body style fuel injection back then?

  • @JSneaker Probably. But I have seen later models with and injector at each cylinder... (I forget what its called.)

  • @kaiyoshi2243 Is it "direct-injection"?

  • @4751424 They are standard fuel injection in 1990 and newer

  • @4751424 The engines made after 91 were fuel injected. 91 and before were had the carburetor

  • @aeastman16 Depends on where you live, I think. I did see a 1988 Chevy school bus with Throttle body injection.

  • @aeastman16 actually in 1987 was the first gm fuel injected motor in 1986 was the last carbourated one

  • @rmx77 Thank you! I thought it was something like that.

  • @kaiyoshi2243 hey no trouble bro. glad i could help

  • vacuum leak? or maybe some fine tuning the carb and she will be good

  • Nice video, what can of video editing program do you use to make your video?

  • Windows Movie Maker.

  • sweet bus lol do you know what the fuel economy is on those?

  • On my bus, it's about 6.5 MPG. At 70mph.

  • Wow, that sucks, literary.

  • Electric fuel pumps is cheating It more fun to crank and pump the piss out of it until it starts or you go through batteries,it's more of a challange

  • Ya I know. It took all the fun out of it.

  • Oh yeah, on carbureted vehicles with automatic chokes, the choke gradually opens as the engine warms up. It is fully open once the engine reaches normal operating temp. Does it die once the engine is fully warmed up?

  • yeah.. it dies whether the engine is warm, hot or cold. Doesn't matter. Something is wrong with the idle circuit.

  • Is the tach OEM on this bus? I always liked the four way gauge for oil pressure, coolant temp, fuel, and volts. There should be a wire under the hood for the tach. There is a "tach" terminal on the HEI next to the B+ wire from the key switch. Not sure what color it is.

  • no that tach is not OEM. One of the wires going to the gauge has just fallen off, or a mouse chewed through it, or something. Another thing on my "To do" list.

  • I can hear the poor starter motor screaming "LET GO OF THE KEY!" A shot of ether and it should kick right off. Or prime the carb through the vent tube. Pumping doesn't do anything if the float chambers are empty.

  • I'm so glad you are here to tell me what the starting is saying. I've been completely in the dark all this time...

    Thank you.

  • If I offended you, I apologize. Just a good natured jab. I don't want to piss anybody off. BTW, my school had one of those buses. I always enjoyed riding in it, listening to the motor and tranny.

  • No worries. I just jab back.

Actually, I did prime the carb... but in this video, I had not installed the new electronic fuel pump. So I was cranking the motor trying to get the mechanical fuel pump to finish priming the system. Also, I would never do this kind of cranking to a car or a pickup truck. Buses have a much more heavy duty starter designed for abuse. I'm going on 8 years with this starter. I think she likes it rough. XD

  • Keep me updated And would like to see more videos on this too

  • How is the carb doing? Did you get it fixed? Let me know.

  • The accelerator jets were completely blocked. I can now start the bus without the choke. but it still won't idle. Just dies. I opened the idle jets in a way that should've raised the idle speed to maximum.. but it did nothing. I'm thinking that something else, some other passage way is completely blocked as well. If weather permits, I'll take it apart again tomorrow and try to figure it out.

  • hey i was wondering can you do the same cold start? but this time record under the hood showing the engine cranking and wanted to see what the carburator is doing when your having trouble starting it dont use the choke yet want to know whats going on with it ya know

  • hey awesome video sorry about the carburator is not adjussting but yeah i agrree you need to dump out the old gas gas that could plug up alot of things

  • Thanks.

But Dav runs bad gas all the time on Dav's Farm.... =D

  • Look in your holley rebuild kit for the right adjustments or call holley

  • First thing is to drain all the old gas. I would have done this before I done anything to the bus. Ok, On the carb,

I am thinking that who ever had the bus

before may have had trouble with the carb and may have adjusted it alittle. What you do is get you a sharpie or any kind of marker and mark where your adjustment are before you start, And you should not have to go a 1/4 turn left or right.

    Let me know

  • Thank you for your help. The reason I didn't drain the gas was... I didn't and still don't have a way to drain 20+ gallons of gas... I'll figure something out. Thanks!

  • Did you try adjusting your air fuel mix, Sound to me like you got more air then fuel. Try it and let me know.

  • Hmm.. is there some reason why those adjustments would suddenly be out of whack? I've never ever messed with fuel mixture adjustments before... so I'm curious, what would cause them to get out of adjustment?

....or... could all these problems be traced to bad fuel? I've been pondering that all day. There is some gas in that tank that's over 2 years old. Today I added about 8 gallons of fresh gas. but there still may be 10 - 20 gallons of bad gas in there.......

  • i wish i knew what was causing the stalling though i'm as confused as you are. it looks like it was running better towards the end. just what happens to an old carbed engine after not running for so long i guess!

  • That's what I was thinking as well. Maybe I just need to drive it around more often.
