    watch?v=R2XN5elRKcI

  • @yippitydodah credits/details are in more info ...Jack Fishman / Roy Budd

  • @richpat Ah, yes, sorry - missed that. The film Kidnapped with Michael Caine this music is in is a brilliant film, full of old scottish politics from the 17th/18th century. The music in the film Get Carter also with Michael Caine, music also scored by Roy Budd is also brilliant. Good clip of Roy Budd playing the theme music of it, with clips of Get Carter as well, here. An excellent vid,

All the very best to you.

  • I don't know whether I should say thanks for this. It's 4-30 in the morning and I have to be up early in the morning and I can't stop watching these Mary Hopkin videos. She's every bit as great as I remember her all those years ago. I'm going to suffer tomorrow but what a beautifuk voice.

  • @hardyfh1 Hi, thanks for all your lovely comments on Mary's videos, MAry has been releasing new and old music on her own label since 2005 they are all real gems. if you want to find out more about what she is doing and the newest release of her 1989 classic album SPIRIT go to maryhopkinDOTcom.

    All the best

    Pat

  • Very evocative soundtrack to the film Kidnapped

  • I first heard this song watching the movie Kidnapped, the song and the landscape reminded me then so much of home and each time I hear it now those memories of childhoods passage haunt me....

  • Ein wunderschöner Song für all die traurigen Momente im Leben.

    Aber auch für die fröhlichen.

  • jesus christ is lord. lovely tune. 17 people were crying so much that they hit the dislike button by accident//

  • If wales was always sunny it would mean no rain to make the landscape as lush as it is ;) and you would not appreciate it as much when the sun is shining brightly :D

  • @3tangle3 Yes very true...But we do get more than our fair share of the wet stuff...LOL

  • What a beautiful song. Out of the turbulent '60s a rose did bloom.

  • I'm 39 and never heard of Ms. Hopkin till tonight, but I am entranced.

  • What a lovely pure Welsh voice. So relaxing to listen to.

  • Cine stie unde pot gasi varianta "C 'etait le temps de fleurs", deci cea cu versuri in franceza vs "Those were the days"? Astept raspuns de la cunoscatori, caci eu nu am "dibuit-o"! Multumesc.

  • @ducubrates

Any chance of this comment in English?

  • @richpat

It says: Who knows where I can find to "C 'etait temps fleurs them, so that with lyrics in French vs." thos Were the Days "? Waiting for response from connoisseurs, because I have not "poked it! " Thanks.

  • @sharonburtonfletcher Um, ok, still means nothing to me but thanks anyway!

  • Such a lovely lady & a lovely voice!

  • What always tickled me was when I saw her with that massive guitar, she's such a waif like girl, how ever did she manage it? I wonder if she could do the same with a double bass?

  • a truly touching song sung by a truly brilliant singer. Thanks for posting.

  • So beautiful.

  • Wow, lovely song. And what memories it brings back!

I've never seen the movie, but I bought the LP of the music from the film when it came out, almost 40 years ago. I was and still am a big Mary Hopkin fan, and had to have all her available recordings. This was much harder back then that it is today. And I lived and still do in the US in the state of Arkansas, far from Mary's home turf. So finding this record was a big score for me. But it's great to find this video. Thanks, richpat!

  • Reminds me of a girl I used to know.

  • Is that Kensington Park (London) that she's walking in?

Thank you, Mary, for a beautiful song. Sung by a beautiful person.

  • A fantastic song by a brilliant Welsh singer

  • thankyou so much richpat - from a newsouthwelshwoman (australia) my dad was an old coal miner - this reminds me so much of my childhood - brought a very large tear to my eye.

  • @angelackb thanks for your lovely comment, all the very best to you from (unusually) a very sunny Welsh Wales

  • What a beautiful voice.

  • this video talks to the heart

  • @technomage7

Yes it does indeed, a lovely, lovely song.

  • top movie, goosebumps at the end when this song comes on, a cockney michael caine looking out across his Scotland, love it

  • absolutely, A great film and a wonderful sound track

  • Llyn y Fan Fach, ladies high up on hills in summer, next to lakes, considering their options,

    youtube search ' watch?v=z_BSfkTFQ4M '.

  • Ladytron are interesting.

  • Tawe valley girl - nice valley, nice road alongside it more or less, up to Sennybridge. Could always turn right to Llyn y Fan Fawr, and climb the hill to, if you want, to Llyn y Fan Fach, and meet the Lady of the Lake.

It is up to you. Wear wellies.

  • sorry, turn LEFT, to Llyn y Fan Fawr- my sub-conscious is trying to keep it hidden...

    good, ey?

  • lovely vid xxxxlots of love from kelly xxx

  • The best photo I think is is when she is leaning on the side of what could be described as community housing, or better as industrial housing, toilets indoors. with fitted bath inside too.

My Dad's parents lived in one of them- brilliant housing. even had an outside bog. big coal store and a head-in-the-shed room as well, to sleep in when you got locked out by the missess when had too much after a hard day, so to speak.

  • THis was outside the studios when they were recording the school choir for Those were the days

  • OOPS! I stand corrected. Thanks. They must have used the same bricks to build it as well. Nice photo though.

  • saying that, it does look the off-yellow London brick, if London is where it was recorded. Black and white photos don't lie, just confuse a bit.

  • God, she was a cutie pie back then..I love her singing voice

  • Thankyou "richpat" . I've been looking for this song for 30 years since I saw the film Kidnapped and they cut it short every time the film ends. Here it is in all it's glory! As Mary would say "Diolch yn fawr".

  • Hi Newchapel, Yes I remember getting very upset every time they showed the film, poised with tape recorder and they cut it short or the tv announcers talked all over it!! LOL

it is now available on DVD with a full un edited theme song.

  • A tremendously talented singer! I just love her songs and music from the Apple Records days and wish all of her recordings from that era including foreign language versions would be re-issued.

  • does she write her own - I wouldn´t think so. It´s very idiomatic and up to date English.

  • She does- but when the voice is so much more powerful than the hand, it is forgiven that the hand doesn't speak much louder.

Sorry to sound deep, he says!

  • My sincere aplogies to Marit Larsen! (Whose songs I love so much.) Marit Larsen does indeed write her own song lyrics, and she should go more public about it! Also her boyfriend Tom Hell writes for her. But of course Norwegians have an execellent command of English generally. (I should have posted the info earlier, but didnt have the time; also couldn´t find much on the subject on the net anyway).

  • @richpat. No of course Larssens voice doesn´t get as any close to the quality of Mary Hopkins voice, but the music, lyrics and style is comparable, very 60iesh I would say

  • Ah, I see what you mean ... Yes I liked what I heard, the songs were good. Does she write her own?

  • I too heard the song when I hired the video, which was a VHS copy from the British Council in Berlin (whose film section sadly closed). And I too have been searching the internet an U tube 4 the past 2 years - and here it is.

  • Maritt Larssen actually reminds me a lot of Mary Hopkins

  • Voice? I just listened to Maritt Larssen nice songs and vids but I didnt think she sounded like Mary though

  • Roy Budd is a legend, he was an incredible musician. His music for the original "Get Carter" film with Michael Caine was superb, but obviously different to what was in this brilliant film.

  • A wonderful voice.

  • Does anybody know what album this song is from? my mum wants this song for christmas but i am having a difficult time trying to find it. can anyone help?

  • Hi Kazmo all the info you need is on the right hand side of this page in the more info section.

    All the best

  • This was the theme song for the movie "Kidnapped" starring Michael Caine.

    Scotland and no Union!

  • Has anyone else noticed the likeness between Mary and the actress Hannah Murray (Skins)? Both very beautiful women

  • I have been searching for this song for a long time. I heard it many years ago at the end of a film (which I now know was "Kidnapped". It's a very beautiful song and Mary Hopkin has a beautiful voice. I don't think anyone else could have sung this song as well as she did. It's a great credit to her.

  • thanks so much for your comment

This is one of my real favourites by her...

  • I wish our world was still full of these type of singers and people.

  • Well Mary is still very much in "our world" and recording, thank goodness! LOL

more info about her via Mary Hopkin Music at maryhopkinDOTcom

  • Blessings to a great lady :)

  • Thankyou so much for this video, well put together and such a lovely song, couldn't have been done better. Simply beautiful touching song

  • Thank you for your lovely comment. It is a beautiful song.

  • Beautiful!

  • we have one life lets be nice to each

other ii this to hard god bless

  • Such a wonderful song, thankyou for posting this.

  • Thanks for sharing this wonderful video!!

  • Perfect song at the end of Kidnapped when Alan Breck (Michael Caine) stops to look North from his captivity in Edinburgh castle.

  • Yes! absolutely

  • I would think that Mary probably had too nice of a personality to marry McCartney. Perhaps Mary and Donovan, or Cat Stevens (Yusuf Islam), would have been a better musical match.

  • I often wonder why McCartney didn't just marry Mary and live a full and a happy life. Imagine what sweet music that they would have made together.

I like this song it is very inspirational.

  • I think Paul was already married to Linda

    by then

and in those days, people really stood by

their marriage vows. He probably did have his fun on the side though :-)

  • probably not ...

  • She's an absolute angel...

  • how lovely. thank you pat. how very lovely.

    godly and sweet. so nice.

  • The music the words everything about this song to me is perfect...

  • This was used for the theme to the 70's version of Kidnapped starring Michael Caine.

  • Thank you so much! It's very beautiful. Somehow the melody reminds me of "The Water Is Wide"

  • Yes I know what you mean...

This is one of my all time favourite Mary songs...

  • this song gets better and betterwith each play

  • How I miss the 60's when I see a clip like this.

I never thought i'd hear myself say it but these were the Good Old Days. A Wonderful Video.

  • Hi Pat Probably the most beautifully sung and constructed song and video I have ever seen on youtube. I great masterpiece that sends shivers down my back and into my soul. Thankyou so much for sharing.

    Take Care

    David

  • It's her voice! It's all about the voice!

    Thanks

    Pat

  • Beautiful and rare footage, Pat!

A song like that, makes the listener recall the days that have passed ... long time ago.

    Wonderful :-)

  • Great old film

  • Well done Pat.Thankyou for your time and effort in putting this video together.Very much appreciated.

  • What i can say is of only one word of thanks.

    Thank you very much, Pat.
