I think the Mass Media Passed Over This Lady & I call FOUL ! I think to them She was & IS TO-2 Bu-ty-FULL w/ a PURE Clean & Clear Voice. MAJOR Over-Look here & SHE HAS TALENT Mega For-EVER !
@richpat Ah, yes, sorry - missed that. The film Kidnapped with Michael Caine this music is in is a brilliant film, full of old scottish politics from the 17th/18th century. The music in the film Get Carter also with Michael Caine, music also scored by Roy Budd is also brilliant. Good clip of Roy Budd playing the theme music of it, with clips of Get Carter as well, here. An excellent vid,
I don't know whether I should say thanks for this. It's 4-30 in the morning and I have to be up early in the morning and I can't stop watching these Mary Hopkin videos. She's every bit as great as I remember her all those years ago. I'm going to suffer tomorrow but what a beautifuk voice.
@hardyfh1 Hi, thanks for all your lovely comments on Mary's videos, MAry has been releasing new and old music on her own label since 2005 they are all real gems. if you want to find out more about what she is doing and the newest release of her 1989 classic album SPIRIT go to maryhopkinDOTcom.
I first heard this song watching the movie Kidnapped, the song and the landscape reminded me then so much of home and each time I hear it now those memories of childhoods passage haunt me....
If wales was always sunny it would mean no rain to make the landscape as lush as it is ;) and you would not appreciate it as much when the sun is shining brightly :D
Cine stie unde pot gasi varianta "C 'etait le temps de fleurs", deci cea cu versuri in franceza vs "Those were the days"? Astept raspuns de la cunoscatori, caci eu nu am "dibuit-o"! Multumesc.
It says: Who knows where I can find to "C 'etait temps fleurs them, so that with lyrics in French vs." thos Were the Days "? Waiting for response from connoisseurs, because I have not "poked it! " Thanks.
What always tickled me was when I saw her with that massive guitar, she's such a waif like girl, how ever did she manage it? I wonder if she could do the same with a double bass?
Wow, lovely song. And what memories it brings back!
I've never seen the movie, but I bought the LP of the music from the film when it came out, almost 40 years ago. I was and still am a big Mary Hopkin fan, and had to have all her available recordings. This was much harder back then that it is today. And I lived and still do in the US in the state of Arkansas, far from Mary's home turf. So finding this record was a big score for me. But it's great to find this video. Thanks, richpat!
thankyou so much richpat - from a newsouthwelshwoman (australia) my dad was an old coal miner - this reminds me so much of my childhood - brought a very large tear to my eye.
Tawe valley girl - nice valley, nice road alongside it more or less, up to Sennybridge. Could always turn right to Llyn y Fan Fawr, and climb the hill to, if you want, to Llyn y Fan Fach, and meet the Lady of the Lake.
The best photo I think is is when she is leaning on the side of what could be described as community housing, or better as industrial housing, toilets indoors. with fitted bath inside too.
My Dad's parents lived in one of them- brilliant housing. even had an outside bog. big coal store and a head-in-the-shed room as well, to sleep in when you got locked out by the missess when had too much after a hard day, so to speak.
Thankyou "richpat" . I've been looking for this song for 30 years since I saw the film Kidnapped and they cut it short every time the film ends. Here it is in all it's glory! As Mary would say "Diolch yn fawr".
Hi Newchapel, Yes I remember getting very upset every time they showed the film, poised with tape recorder and they cut it short or the tv announcers talked all over it!! LOL
it is now available on DVD with a full un edited theme song.
A tremendously talented singer! I just love her songs and music from the Apple Records days and wish all of her recordings from that era including foreign language versions would be re-issued.
My sincere aplogies to Marit Larsen! (Whose songs I love so much.) Marit Larsen does indeed write her own song lyrics, and she should go more public about it! Also her boyfriend Tom Hell writes for her. But of course Norwegians have an execellent command of English generally. (I should have posted the info earlier, but didnt have the time; also couldn´t find much on the subject on the net anyway).
@richpat. No of course Larssens voice doesn´t get as any close to the quality of Mary Hopkins voice, but the music, lyrics and style is comparable, very 60iesh I would say
I too heard the song when I hired the video, which was a VHS copy from the British Council in Berlin (whose film section sadly closed). And I too have been searching the internet an U tube 4 the past 2 years - and here it is.
Roy Budd is a legend, he was an incredible musician. His music for the original "Get Carter" film with Michael Caine was superb, but obviously different to what was in this brilliant film.
Does anybody know what album this song is from? my mum wants this song for christmas but i am having a difficult time trying to find it. can anyone help?
I have been searching for this song for a long time. I heard it many years ago at the end of a film (which I now know was "Kidnapped". It's a very beautiful song and Mary Hopkin has a beautiful voice. I don't think anyone else could have sung this song as well as she did. It's a great credit to her.
I would think that Mary probably had too nice of a personality to marry McCartney. Perhaps Mary and Donovan, or Cat Stevens (Yusuf Islam), would have been a better musical match.
Hi Pat Probably the most beautifully sung and constructed song and video I have ever seen on youtube. I great masterpiece that sends shivers down my back and into my soul. Thankyou so much for sharing.

Hi Pertly, lots and lots of different ones from 1968-1970 e.g. a very early interview from Welsh tv, the "Pop at St Pauls" concert, "Think about your children" from the Roy Castle show ....
Beautiful words, beautifully song. Sheer bliss.

does she write her own - I wouldn´t think so. It´s very idiomatic and up to date English.

She does- but when the voice is so much more powerful than the hand, it is forgiven that the hand doesn't speak much louder.
