Thats pretty cool. I like seeing people mod cars that arn't usually mooded. I'm in the process of turboing a Ford ZX2 and also into a N/A build with a 85 FWD Corolla.
wow thats cool puttin the 2.4 in. i got an 89 plymoth turismo, and i have a 2.5L i was gona put in it. but 2.4 motors are waaaaaay better. how did u do it?
Well this place won't let me post a URL, but I have a blog on my website. Go to turbododge dot info Click on "The Big Swap", go to the bottom of that "Go to Archives" and it's my blog I ran during the swap. Documented the whole process.
Yup, the whole 2.4 engine, into an '88 Omni with a '90 A523 tranny. Much less fabrication involved in just tossing the whole engine in, rather than adapting a different head to an old engine.
You are right. A 2.2 came in the Omni. The 2.5 is the same motor and swaps right in. The 2.4L engine came out 6 years after the Omni was discontinued. That's what makes this project so neat. It makes a helluvalot more power with the 2.4 than the 2.2 or 2.5 ever make without a turbo.
If I had done that with the first head, I'd have had a whole lot more crap to remove to swap it. I simply wanted to see it run, NOW. Rocking around didn't hurt anything. The car is done now and is my commuter, it was a fun swap. And now the car is a blast to drive.
sound like its being fueled with pepsi

what kind of car did it come out of im looking for a 2.2 or 2.5 dodge motor
mylesgifford123 4 years ago
The 2.4 came out of a '99 Stratus, PT Cruiser, or Dodge Caravan. You can find a 2.2 or 2.5 in any Shadow, Sundance, Lebaron, Charger, Daytona, etc..

Thanks

So this is the full 2.2 to 2.4 Neon swap? I've seen just the heads adapted, but there's a ton of fabrication required to make it work.

Why wouldn't you finish bolting the engine in and installing the exhaust before starting it?
