I get why its machined in parts, to prevent vibration marks by machining a flimsy part at the end... but why isn't it finished in one smooth cut??? ie: the 'cup' is facing down, and it gets finished, then the chuck spindle rotates and gets finished on the back side.. instead of the chuck rotating constantly? What a waste of a multi-task CNC machine tool! Making Art? An Award of some kind? This machine was designed to make complex machine parts and components to further man-kind and free a mordern CNC Machinist from the hard task of fixturing a complex part in two or more setups. This is just silly. Make something real next time. Wait, I need to go to the grocery store in my F1 racecar to pick up some milk. Later!
@madisonelectronic Nah, I'll just borrow one from your extensive collection. You beeing the ass crack scraper manufacturer and all. I only by the best from the ones who know the most. Madison, where is your shop? Fire Island, NY?

wow carino!

kuei... I´m not a Mastercam fanboy but in this particular case it´s a programmer´s fault... Mastercam supports what you said... but you are right that Mastercam is very limited for multitasking machines such as Integrexes... but not for this particular example...
I love the VIDEO ............... I WORK IN A MAZAK NEXUS 250, WILL HAVE TO WORK IN ONE OF THIS NOW. FOLLOW MY CONTACT: torneirocnc@hotmail.com / wmcomunicacaovisual@hotmail. com /
Mastercam is awesome. I am taking my certification classes right now. Do you think anybody will hire me with no experience with Mastercam, I have 3 years of programming?
MasterCAM is far more advanced than edge cam, he doesnt seem to have the 4th and 5th axis toolpaths yet, looks like he used core roughing and parrallell finishing paths, he needs to have the 4th axis activated in mastercam to make the part revolve around the tool.
my thoughts exactly, if they needed exacting standards from a 3D design then they could simply cut away a cheaper material such as foam or wax, then use that positive to make a negative mold. melt away the wax mold to make room for molten metal baby .. and poor that shit in, wait for the metal to cool.. and no wasted metal.
just think if they were utilizing an expensive metal like gold or platinum, every grain adds up.
@OrganicDrew That would make much more sense. Makes me think of when my uncle took me through his shop where they make railway switches. Guys stood there all day smacking wooden squares on tables and all that came out of them was a small cast. The rest was like a mud or a sand.
A shop beside it had this massive lathe that faced off 30 foot rails.
I watched this video again and wondered" how the hell did they part that off?".
@dj6927 Mould ? Excellent idea ! But, how would you make a mould to start with ? Using similar machine I guess. And what if you need only one piece ? Still mould ? There is no cheaper way of doing it except perhaps rapid prototyping (3D printing, then thermal treatment)
That is one small integrex. As far as i can tell it's even smaller then a multiplex. The integrexes i used to operate were huge; you could have a party in them!
It's either a statue or a trophy. It's so expensive, though, to machine one of these that it would not be cost effective to market them as machined pieces.
yeah mastercam sucks on a integrex, we use it for our mills but we only run esprit on the integrex's its a little more complex but it works great on these machines...if you can get your damn posts to work right!, integrexs heads are weak though, we have 5 integrexs in our shop- we're swapping them out and getting mori seki's- thats where its @!
This video shows the limitations of Mastercam's multi tasking and 3d milling capabilities compared with other programming packages like Edgecam and Gibbscam. Other packages would have done 2 things. Rotate the c-axis instead of traveling along the y-axis to maintain consistent cutting around the tool edge. And rotate the b-axis to obtain optimum cutting angle along the larger diameter of the tool instead of trying to cut on the center of the tool for better tool life and better finish. Sorry MC

minus axis that you move than better the dimensional precision will be, so good video. remember 5 axis are usefull if you have to avoid collision if you can keep the rotary axis off the speed and errors will be reduced.
@kuei1248 This is not so true. Mastercam does offer many dynamic toolplane features to be used with four and five axis machines. It is obvious that the programmer chose to implement only two toolplanes for this project, not really sure why. I know for a fact that Mastercam will let you set a lead/lag angle on the cutting tool as it revolves a part during 4 axis machining.
@kuei1248 Have to agree about Mastercam, we used to use Catia and the programs were much smoother, now our programs are jerky and less effcient, not to mention they beat the hell out of our machines...
if this was being made out of a casting you would have some serious work holding issues due to the odd shape of the part, not to mention a lot of chatter cuz it's so skinny.i think this is the best compromise.
not at all, there are many companies that buy the wasted material. I live in Brazil and have a CNC machine + router lol.. so i use metal and wood in my work... but wood is not that easy to sell... they buy for firestarter
E' un vero peccato che dal filmato non si intuascano peso e dimensioni del particolare.Forse qualcuno non ha capito che la lavrazione eseguita in questo moo e' stata fatta per ottenere la massima rigidita' possibile dalla macchina.
I am a bit away of my Italian, but what you say is that you are keeping the machine method at its maximum rigidity.Hope Mazak is not watching, because they will be very UPSET.machine you are showing is a top of the line, I sell these machines in Europe.and Master Cam, I am a 3d master designer with a Diploma at Mcam USA. Congrats you show the best in the market for Machinning. but you just need to show the Italian desings made in a more fantastic way.Show your real skills in machining.

Wow. Now that's what the Intregrex is for.
I say this because they bought one of these at work and use maybe half a percent of the machines abilities.
After side one of a part is done, the right chuck grabs the material and has to wait.
The Multiplex makes almost 5 pieces by the time the Integrex has made one.
Like you guys say, that's a lot of wasted material. Could something like this be done in a mold?
