Actually, this version is rather lovely. I've always admired Difford's lyrics and musicianship, and he does a good job with this rendition of one of Squeeze's best songs. And besides, wasn't it he who devised the naughty wordplay which makes the composition in part such a delight?
Who are we kidding, guys? Chris isnt doing anything new here except for adding in a slide guitar. He uses the girl to add that harmony that he and Glenn have. If you ask me, this version (and the entire album) is just boring. Chris could do much better.
This is a neato version! Chris has a nice voice , and I agree, as an artist you do need to keep the songs fresh for yourself, and why not give the audience something different? you can always listen to the record , right?
at any rate , Chris & Glen are tremendously under appreciated as songwriters!
Chris's take on this song gives it a true country feel...Nice to hear a new spin on this classic song... pure talent, one of the greatest songwriters of our time!
He's just trying to make it fresh for himself. I'm not saying this style is successful or not, but musicians have to do that sometimes, or else the old songs drive them nuts to have to play and sing them the same way for the millionth time.
I don't like the background singers. I wish people weren't so terrified of hearing pop songs sang in baritone.
The songs are good enough to stand on their own regarless who is sionging them. I'd rather he sing alone with some balls and conviction than like this. Its all a bit too rehearsed for me. These songs were fun when I was a kid. These versions are too... good.
When I first heard this I hated it but I'm really warming to Chris, it's his song and he can do whatever he likes with it.

He has great talents but singing isn't one of them. Glenn Tilbrooks voice is amazing.

I saw him on the US summmer 2007 tour. it was quite an enjoyable show--it was a shame there were only about 20 people there.

Anyone know what chord he plays when he sings "fee-eet"? It's not G# but it sounds like G#.
closertotheheart 5 years ago
G#6, and it resolves down to G6.

yes, but if they come back we want the fast bass figures, squeeze was not a country band
