The R35 is an engineering marvel, but carrying 1740kgs is just no...even the ancient V12 AWD Murcielago weights in at 1600kgs. A RX7 carrying less weight with a lower output is a monster

Great battle!! But GT-R's are for girly men.....Don't get me wrong, but the driver is there just to press some pedals, flick some paddles and turn the wheel, the other stuff needed to drive a car fast, the sort of knowledge that makes a good driver shine is taken care of by computers, I think there is no glory in driving a GTR. Is like getting you NBA champ ring but you were on the bench the whole season, get me????

the key point is, the RX7 and R34 have had many, many thousands spent on them. They probably cost the owners several hundred thousand quid (in british money here) over the years, whereas those R35's are barely modified. Probably a boost up/ECU change, different suspension, maybe manifold/exhaust, but other than that, they're probably relatively standard. not heavily modified like the other two. If anything, they probably cost alot less than the other two. Goes to show that R35's are cheap!

It's so amazng how good can a car compare (RX-7 FD3S) that was designed and built 20 years ago in comparison with the newest innovations from Nissan, and that with an old designed T51Kai turbine and a built gearbox... 1 Sek faster.... WOW !! FAMSPEED !! TOP RESULT !!

@Peter10654 The results do indeed speak for themselves. It's a testament to how well the FD3S platform is to this day. But the race also demonstrated how far we've come with new platforms and technology. These GTRs weighing 500kg more than the FD went head to head with the 7 despite being down in power to weight ratio. It was also wearing radials as opposed to the S-tires on was relatively quiet on the inside, and it didn't catch on fire afterwards. Really shows how well these cars are built

I'm with you.... both sides are great. It is a great development a heavy car like the GT-R can hold up with such a lightwight car. But if you compare what other manufacture did 1992 where the RX-7 FD was started (Volkswagen Corrado, BMW 840i, Mercedes 190 Evolution etc... ) Mazda was with his RX-7 FD 10 years ago.

I'm interested if a R35 GT-R can hold up 20 years later a actually sportscar. This is what a RX-7 makes so excited in my opinion.

But finally I'm with you... :)

Anyone else notice that the FD beat the fastest GTR by a second (1:51.188 vs GTR's 1:52.177) That is the baddest FD, that track is huge and he set the fastest time! You would think only the GTR's had the muscle for those straightaways.

@cxbra what do you expect? the gtrs have brick like bodys compared to the rx7 not to mention wiegh over 350 kilos more! and only have another 100hp on the fd so power to wieght and drag wise the rx7 crushed the gtrs NOW if it were an z32 or a jza70/jza80 supra in this battle it would be more exciting as those cars have very low drag and aero drag and power are the two most important things for top speed.

@LOLHICRONO Yeah one R35 GTR has a HKS tune, the other has another tune that I can't read lol. Then one light weight MSR tuned true manual transmissopon R34, & a super light weight rotary powered tuned RX7 with a sequential manual transmission & RWD. I'd say that diverse...and closely matched ;-)
