yea im an employee there and the reason that she made some mistakes was because the normal waitress was sick and she had to fill in that night probably if you picked another waitress then you would of been more satisfied with the service and knowledgeability
C'mon Joe. Getting your drink wrong was "inconvenient"? That warrants a deduction... Please. You arrive with no notice and get a server who was not prepared to be on-camera and put her on the spot. Did you ever wait a table in your life? I know time is of the essence but much can be compressed by taking out repetitive critique that is of no consequence. Critical thinking is good for growth and improvement -- but your final assessment was not a fair overall evaluation of this establishment.
Good for you! I just do not think getting a drink order wrong warrants any type of relevant deduction. It appeared your arrival was unexpected and the server was not a willing participant. You were aggressively looking for deductions.
I wasn't looking at her mistakes as "deductions" per se. "Half a Joe" was meant to be average, what people expect when they go out to eat. Anything above "half a Joe" is a bonus, and anything less than half is a deduction.
She was clearly an above-average server, but I did have to take her mistakes into account. I did so by ranking her above average, but not the topmost ranking.
I promise I won't keep harping. . . You hve every right to judge this on your standard. I just think if that half a Joe was based on an incorrect drink being brought to you. You must be disappointed in many places. It is the most common error in service. All in all, I think what you are attempting to do could be a helpful resource for Ocean County consumers. It is a good idea. I first saw it on Cable and not YouTube. Good luck with this endeavor.
Yes, I just watched it again, and I noted service didn't get your "arm." LOL. Other things about Bayville's Yesterday that I think desrves mention is that the meals are served quickly, the presentation is beautiful and the wine you were slurping is complimentary. :-) Presentation is an often overlooked component of dining, but in a review it should be mentioned.
As a regular there, I agree--I didn't comment on speed, because our production slowed her down. The crew and I came from the mindset of commercial producers; next time we need to move away from that.
It's hard to hear her say that the wine was free since she wasn't mic'ed, but I also noted it on the check mockup when I examined the pricing.
The presentation was great, and I was hoping the images would speak for that. Yesterday's is definitely one of the best restaurants in this area.
Wow, it has been 3 years already. I'd still love to be doing more of these.

Hi,
Thanks for the comment. Yes, we were told both that and that she usually works the bar. Mario actually chose her specifically for us.
Don't get me wrong, I was satisfied, I just couldn't give a perfect score when there were mistakes.

Hi Ozguy, thanks for the comment. What did you think was unfair about the overall evaluation? That the server should have gotten a higher rating?

I don't mind, I certainly appreciate the input! It's good stuff for me to be thinking about for future reviews.
I actually rated her 3/4, not half. She was an above-average server, and with half as my mark of standard, I was quite pleased with her service.

Thanks! There's a reason they're my favorite local restaurant. (:

<3 the restaurant looks real nice, is it a local restaurant or do they have a chain? That spumoni looks delicious.

It's a local restaurant, they have two locations in NJ, one in Bayville and one in Hazlet. The spumoni was very good, as was the rest of the food.
