One piece of the story that was recently in OUR STATE magazine ( a North Carolina publication) was that Niles returned to try to find the little girl who sang this for him but was never able to do so—he looked continuously until his death...
1. I saw and heard John Jacob Niles and his family with all their mountain and Olde English instruments in a demonstration-concert at Juilliard eons ago.
2. I've sung this and quite a bit slower. Were you saying "ordinary people?" It's "ornery people."
I've told you that you have a good voice; a few months with a really good teacher--if you can find one--"good" is sorta scarce--and you can take your natural talent to great heights.
You lucky bum! 8)) Yes, its "ordinary people" (this from a artist who was anything BUT ordinary), but I think that I had the tempo somewhat fast, since a 4 sylable word isn't that easy to fit in there. "On'ry" was on the sheet. Oh well.
This was the only song that I managed to transcribe into my Amiga before my score book was lost in a forest fire a few years back. I'm really too poor to buy another, but that might change in awhile. I'm glad you liked it.
Very simple, I forgot my carry bag (which had the book) at a campground in the mountains of S. California, and a forest fire burned the campground down a few months later.
You two are very silly. 8) Just google Commodore Amiga to find out, it was a line of PCs that ran from '86 to '94 and went out of business under mysterious circumstances. Helped a lot of people get into video production. I made a video of it too, just look in my channel for "Icons of the Commodore Amiga"
Drew! Wild applause!!!! Thank you for this lovely song and for the history of it. Compelling story of John Jacob Niles. Thank you again! Fav and 5 stars, my friend. ;O)

She has some immortality now, through the song.

It is too fast, but I am assuming you maybe weren't able to change the tempo on your accompaniment. The singing was very good, though.

Yep, it was too fast, and I should have adjusted the tempo. Later a friend Ken Bank and I did a slower version with him accompanying on his Uke.

Very nice rendition, Drew. I wonder how you would sound with some live accompaniment? Wanna try it? Let me know. :)

Live accompaniment would be a lot of fun and sound more pleasing. We gotta try.
