so i heard that the Launchpad comes with its own special version of Ableton live 8. my question is, can you export your music on this version? or is it just a demo?.......getting Ableton for $150 is a fairly good price, considering that thats how much the launcpad costs.
@JagexCompGameStudios basically you assign tracks or pre recorded slices to a button. not exactly sure on the specifics but you can switch the button controls for things like equality and faders and stuff like that. or have it used as a drum pad.
I can't grasp my head around this thing.. here's my view of it.. is it like a beatpad but with waaayy pads on it and with the controls and layers on the side?
@MrSwagStep You don't need to buy Ableton, just buy the Launchpad...it comes with a light version of Ableton Live 8. Around $100 and you are good to go and start learning....warning...once you buy one you are going to want to spend a lot more money : ) it's addictive
does this work with torq? or without a program/computer? i wanna just take it to class and use it as a drum pad.. cause i dont want to buy maschine. ive never bought one befor but i am starting with my traktor xponent and i wanna do fancier stuff that is more involved.. i have a microkorg too
@JohnChaseClayton It will work with a simple virtual midi controller like Sythesia but it is best to use a program with it (ableton is included if you buy onee new)
is this all i need for starting to mix songs? i was thinking about getting one but im not sure if i need more stuff than this do do something with it..
Question: I'm in a band and we want to insert samples into live performances such as movie clip sounds or a sample beat I've created... Would this be useful for that?
Hi! I have a question... I'm a dj for almost 5 years now but i've come to the point where i want to experiment more. Not just playing one song into another but be a little more creative... Now that i've seen the launchpad it seems a fun way to work on that.
But here is my question. I have no experience with Ableton at all and i don't play an instrument so i don't know any notes...
Are there things i must try first? Is this a good thing for me? Thx!
watch?v=U425croRnu4 This video is using similar techniques for performance and my channel has ableton live templates for djing/electronic live performance
is there reason to get this instead of an apc40(don't have either) other than price, price is a main factor but functionality is first, I'm considering this plus a bcr2000 instead of apc40 for having so many more buttons and dials for relatively the same price if not less, velocity sensitivity doesn't concern me too much
@jps4you there is software on the disc that you have to use to basically map it withother programs but deifnately its possible to link it to fl studio etc.. hope that helps
i want to learn music and mixing and doing stuff on the launchpad i have no music background at all how easy would it be for me to pick up. i feel like i have a good sense of rhythm but thats about it.
@nikesb538 it wouldnt take very much, you got to get use to how it works, for you to get pro... maybe bout a year at best, but if really want to be a mixer, work on it everyday
i need help. just got this thing and all the ableton language is complete gibberish to me and i would really like for this $150 investment to not just sit around my house. anybody who understands it, please let me know what to do!
I have to disagree with Sig.. An instrument in Ableton can be anything which produces sound. Launchpad utilizes audio files or patches in a session format allowing for realtime performance. No other Daw can do this except Live. You could therefore actually compare it to an instrument. The mouse is the tool :)
This product is simply a method of making ableton live more interesting and creative and it does this perfectly :), coming from an APC user, but for some reason i want to get this too
It's just a tool to aid in creativity. Some people are going to be able to do wonderful things with it, and others not so much...
I've played keys and guitar in bands before.. Now, I'm doing my own solo fun project using mostly ableton an acp40 and a guitar + some looping/delay/reverb pedals. And I've got to say, the amount of work I put into midi mapping and prep for live shows is way tougher than just being a guitarist in a band..
@djivimix i wouldnt use deadmau5 as an example since he's one of those untalented dj's out there. he's famous, yes, making zillions of money, YES, but talented, NO. he's just one of those mainstream pop artist that bring nothing to music.
I can't understand why are some people so negative about this product. It looks like a really interesting way of controlling samples with a great looking control surface. And anyway, anything, any method of creating musical sounds is totally valid. Give people the choice and they will go for what interest them, and why not!
@JudgeJudas Thanks for the advice man! I think I'm still gonna get one and learn how to use it. I just love the capabilities you have with this machine! Once you've edited your track though can you save them and possibly put them in iTunes?
@ace101guy You can, but I wouldn't really suggest it. The pads are not velocity-sensitive, so that's a bummer for creating with it (unless you use midi-effects for either fixed or "random" velocity). I bought mine so I could play my stuff live, and I love it, but I only use it to get a feel of things when creating (mostly for percussion), then edit everything later on (but I don't mind working with a screen and a mouse, so that's a factor for me:P).
@twelve11musicAU I love it too! you can hear some of me using it with launchpad and a SLMKII at soundcloud [dot] com / thiagopinheiro / organic-lounge-set (without spaces and with a real dot) :) hope you like it!
Looking forward to mine arriving... if you wanna really unlock what the launchpad can do, google the katapault software. I've seen some amazing videos of it.
@anatolinicolae search for 'Launchpad Promo Explained' video from Novation and then scan to the end of the video to see the link. I can't enter the link here it would seem....

@DevotionTrance From what I can see, it comes with software that it allows you to set it up for loads of things. It would be a crime if it didn't work with Reason ;-)
Getting music out of anything is talent. I now people that can extract music from anything they can find in any kitchen better than thousand people can do using a guitar.
When I play the guitar I can controll every emotion on the pad and I am not limited to 64 pad i have many variation and octave Its more than this but i dont have time to explain dont get me wrong this product is great and im going to buy it but its nothing like a live instrument again this is why bands with live instruments like infected mushroom do way better than you average house music sample trigger dj ....I try to incorporate both
You create the loops yourself. So with this device you perform the music you made yourself, live. Its not just about sampling. If you think that you lack creativity.
@Niekfollings Of course thats talent just look at the guy here I dont think you understood me this pad is taking the whole dj thing to another level what I was commenting about was comparing this to a live instruments which is two different worlds
@diamonddust22 lololololololol. Learn how to use one of these, THEN decide whether or not it's a "real" instrument. (For that matter, what the fuck counts as a "real" instrument? A guitar, just 'cause it goes deedly-deedly-dee? I play a lot of different instruments, and can honestly say that I have yet to find something I like as much as Live & a control surface.)
@mouthbreather1 I am a dj and write alot of house /electro /trance music and I use controllers but I also play the guitar well and ok on the piano and from what it sounds like you suck At your instruments because If you played them well you would understand that a controller can never do the same as a instrument . Fact is all the big guys even armin play a instrument well . All that minimal shit is for guys that have no talent
you're fucking stupid diamonddirt. it's different kind of music. and you need to accept. sorry that this isnt a video of some one playing a led zeppelin solo or jazz sax. but that's different. this is ELECTRONIC music. and yes, it does take talent and devotion to program these machines and to program computers. you are an idiot. go shred a solo on guitar.
Practise, practise, and then, practise... this is how things work with this kind of controllers. You get the expertise by practising hundreds of hours.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Another device for people who are too lazy and stupid to learn how to play an instrument. So what do you play? I don't play anything, I just push buttons and it makes sounds and I take credit for being so amazing. People will stop at nothing to be showoffs and take credit for being untalented assholes.
@diamonddust22 you mean you can play this with your instrument? you've got some nice instrument there let me tell ya ... this is tho, a controller, for sending midi messages to a computer in wich you have spent some long hours programing (composing) music. and of course you deserve credit for it !
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@amishninja2000 I don't need your permission asshole, I can say what I want, when I want to. Stick your talentless electronic toy where the sun don't shine. You don't have the guts, the talent, or the fortitude to learn a real instrument, cause you are too fucking lazy and stupid
@diamonddust22 Guts, fortitude nor talent are what it takes to make ART, art is whatever you do using your feelings and heart. Talent is only a part, most of it is WORK, i'd pay to see how much work it takes for you to understand an "electronic toy". I'd love to mechanically play through scales like a maniac robot in high speed. But my heart aims to "play with electronic toys". Now shut up and go play a gig or do something more productive than this.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@nosoyelpapa While you are playing with your little toy, I am learning Bach cello and piano Pieces on my electric bass. That task in itself would make a burned out techophile like you cry-talk for 3 hours. You just like things that have to heart, or soul.

@davidgtr Boo on you sir, boo on you.

@davidgtr

Ne prendo subito due grazie! Meglio di un sequencer+sampler hardware! <3

@nosoyelpapa, @diamonddust22: It's like overhearing two people arguing whether an assembler is better than Java :)

@diamonddust22 lololololololol. Learn how to use one of these, THEN decide whether or not it's a "real" instrument. (For that matter, what the fuck counts as a "real" instrument? A guitar, just 'cause it goes deedly-deedly-dee? I play a lot of different instruments, and can honestly say that I have yet to find something I like as much as Live & a control surface.)
mouthbreather1 1 year ago
@mouthbreather1 I am a dj and write alot of house /electro /trance music and I use controllers but I also play the guitar well and ok on the piano and from what it sounds like you suck At your instruments because If you played them well you would understand that a controller can never do the same as a instrument . Fact is all the big guys even armin play a instrument well . All that minimal shit is for guys that have no talent
davidgtr 1 year ago
@davidgtr Then please enlighten me about what makes an "instrument" so much different from a controller.

you're fucking stupid diamonddirt. it's different kind of music. and you need to accept. sorry that this isnt a video of some one playing a led zeppelin solo or jazz sax. but that's different. this is ELECTRONIC music. and yes, it does take talent and devotion to program these machines and to program computers. you are an idiot. go shred a solo on guitar.
AEpooptube 1 year ago
Practise, practise, and then, practise... this is how things work with this kind of controllers. You get the expertise by practising hundreds of hours.

Another device for people who are too lazy and stupid to learn how to play an instrument. So what do you play? I don't play anything, I just push buttons and it makes sounds and I take credit for being so amazing. People will stop at nothing to be showoffs and take credit for being untalented assholes.
diamonddust22 1 year ago
@diamonddust22 you mean you can play this with your instrument? you've got some nice instrument there let me tell ya ... this is tho, a controller, for sending midi messages to a computer in wich you have spent some long hours programing (composing) music. and of course you deserve credit for it !

when you make beats that sound like Pretty Lights, or RJD2, THEN you can act like an ass

@amishninja2000 I don't need your permission asshole, I can say what I want, when I want to. Stick your talentless electronic toy where the sun don't shine. You don't have the guts, the talent, or the fortitude to learn a real instrument, cause you are too fucking lazy and stupid
diamonddust22 1 year ago
@diamonddust22 Guts, fortitude nor talent are what it takes to make ART, art is whatever you do using your feelings and heart. Talent is only a part, most of it is WORK, i'd pay to see how much work it takes for you to understand an "electronic toy". I'd love to mechanically play through scales like a maniac robot in high speed. But my heart aims to "play with electronic toys". Now shut up and go play a gig or do something more productive than this.

@nosoyelpapa While you are playing with your little toy, I am learning Bach cello and piano Pieces on my electric bass. That task in itself would make a burned out techophile like you cry-talk for 3 hours. You just like things that have to heart, or soul.
